Do you have any advice for how to stay on the sweet spot when spinning? My main problem with spins is rocking around on my blade. When my coach says “press on the ball of your foot” I really do try but then end up on my toe pick.
Idk if this will help but you want to stay on your rocker. The point in between your toe pick and the flat part of your blade where it is curved a little. And to get there you should press on the ball of your foot but not too much pressure forwards or you’ll go on your toe pick.
I am a former ice skater and instructor. I used to teach this by having the student first do the spin with a straight leg to the side back. I learned this trick very early on in my own skating. It is a beautiful and versatile spin by itself. Your attitude spin is lovely.
@@CoachJulia could you do a video about learning to spin faster and how to work up to that? I see people spin so fast, yet when I spin 5 or 6 revolutions I feel.like I am spinning fast but when I see a video of it, it doesn't look fast.at all. I think subtly I fear if I spin really fast I won't know how to not lose control and go flying across the rink 😉
Julia, thank you very much for your figure skating tutorials. Could you please give a tutorial on how to make a backward crossrolls, I will be very grateful to you!
The word "attitude" actually comes from the Latin noun meaning "stance/posture")))) I guess the meaning of the word changed overtime but in ballet and figure skating it's still the name of the move)))))
Hi Coach Julia, I have three questions regarding the execution of this spin: 1). Is it possible to just have the free leg extended straight and out/down at 45 degrees instead of a strong bend in the knee? 2). Is it possible to have the left arm raised and the right arm extended out mirroring the straightened free leg from question 1? 3) In the USFSA Adult Bronze Freeskate test, is this spin technically classified as an upright spin, or is it in its own category? Thanks very much for the great videos and tutorials!

Great suggestion! I will try and fit that in.
Common sence is telling me not to attempt this trick but somewhere in my mind is telling me I should so I am
If you are working on, or can do a 1 foot spin then go for it!!!
Why is it called "attitude?" Seems more like a ballet move or artistic dance classy spin. I'd think attitude spin would look kinda mean and sassy.
It is actually based off of a ballet move called an attitude! It is a beautiful move.

I started when I was 6
Great for those who has attitude
You've got to have a lot of attitude to pull this spin off! 😉
@@CoachJulia Yes, but that has to be the right attitude, not the one that can give somebody a hard time only ;)
