My Dad served with Ted Williams and John Glenn; he was an aircraft electrician and was trained in the USAAF after WWII after transferring from the infantry. His two brothers and he was in the USMC Reverse and activated on 18 Aug 1950 three days after I was born.
Hey Mike...Thanks for uploading this. I shipped over to my Carrier, USS Independence CV-62 around 1983. We had A6's, A7's, F-14's, a few old whalers, S-3 Viking, E-2C and helo's. It's so awesome to have these videos on RUclips so that civilians can get a better idea of the things that we had to do out there. I was Ship's Company, Ops Dept, OI Div as an OS (Operations Specialist) and worked mostly in CIC (Combat Information Center) with the highest Security Clearance. My specialty was the NTDS (Naval Tactical Data Systems) Console. Tracking and identifying all contacts Surface, Sub Surface and Air. I'd work with the Air Controllers and the E-2C and P-3 Orion. Did a small cruise and then a long 7 month Indian Ocean/Persian Gulf. I would do it all again if needed. Want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

When an internal war between military branches ensue, and dumb ass politicians make idiotic decisions, this is what happens! Who in their right mind would think that aircraft carriers are obsolete THESE days? It just perplexes me!
Another mistake...prior to the it becoming the independent us Airforce and splitting from the army in 1947 it was the army airforce and NOT the army aircorps....the narrator calls it the army aircorps and then calls it the army airforce....yes at 1 piont it was the army aircorps but its title was changed to army airforce years before 1947.
Not blaming mike as he didnt make the documentry but from the very start there is a mistake...the narrator clearly says "a young NAVAL aviator approches his 1st plane" yet the Panther shown in the clip has MARINES and NOT NAVY on it.
I wanna thank you for making these videos, I’m an Engineering student who’s been designing (concept) planes for future military use an considering being a naval pilot 💯🔥
In those days nobody was concerned about what the wind might do in carring radioactive fallout very far, or in allowing fuel oil to pollute the water. How times change.
Just to point out there was always an rn ran or RCN carrier around Korea as well as British/commonwealth troops being amongst the first un soldiers on the scene
It should be "F9F" not F-9F. Predominant variants of the straight wing (i.e. Panther) were the F9F-2 and F9F-5. Later swept-wing Cougar variants were F9F-6 fighter, -7 photo recon, and -8 improved fighter with a radar nose. The "F9F" designation was in accordance with the pre-1962 US Navy system and translates as "US Navy Fighter 9th design built by (Code "F" =) Grumman." After 1962, the US Navy was forced by the DOD to adopt the Army/USAF designation system and what had been the two-seat trainer version of the Cougar, the F9F-8T became the TF-9J. Similarly, the few early model Cougars left in service by that time that had been F9F-6 fighters were re-designated as F-9F but that didn't include any of the early straight-wing Panthers.

Good question. From what I've seen the Attacker entered service a bit late for Korea, and I get the sense it just didn't have a good enough capability (range, primarily) to replace the Sea Fury or the Firefly. The Sea Vampire was also in service at the time and did have good range, but few were built and they seemed to be prioritized for Mediterranean duty.
He was murdered, so was General George Patton, and you don't have to be a German rocket scientist to figure out that is was a certain tribe of (goblins) that did it.
I'm really old. The first time I saw the Blue Angels this is what they were flying.
THE BRIDGES AT TOKO RI
Fantastic Korean war movie!
F9F Panther Jets!

I believe that the Navy F9F Panther and the P- 51 Mustang were both works of art in addition to being fighter aircraft...
One of my favorites of the early jets!
I Heard One Mission a Navy F9F Got 4 Migs in Air to Air Dogfight That was Off the Record.
I’ve seen a restored one in person, it’s a pretty cool plane. Neil Armstrong flew these.

Great documentary, Great. . .
That intro sound track was epic!

I worked on them in 1957-58. ATU-201 Corpus Christi Texas. In fact my Division Officer was killed in one.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Marine pilots are Naval Aviators

This video is from a TV show Wings.
@@briancooper2112 and it has mistakes in it.
Lots of mistakes!
We called them "Flying Rocks"...don't let the flame go out!
Worked on the Panther's successor, the F9F and TAF9J Cougar. Toughest aircraft I ever saw.
In those days nobody was concerned about what the wind might do in carring radioactive fallout very far, or in allowing fuel oil to pollute the water. How times change.
Nice job on the Panther.

Can you put up a video on the F4D-1 Skyray? You can actually fly the F-9F in War Thunder!
I don't think they made a SeaWings episode on that plane.
......you don't actually fly in War Thunder. It's a video game.

It’s Hero shima @sk any Japanese, Dan rather mistaken pronunciation is slowly being corrected.
48:15 New "Essex" class?
I should be able 2 👍🏻twice, but not possible😔
Air Conditioned Cockpit? What is it, do these Men think they are some degree of hustler dealing cards in a Wild West Saloon??
why would a Marine Aviator have a naval ground crew?
Forestall Class was certainly not Essex Class.

21 minutes into this and nothing yet about the videos title- F9F
Love the commentator, bg music… not so much.
Why did Britain never use its carrier jet the supermarine attacker during the korean war?
Good question. Would the Government admit to Chinese advance today?
'Essex'-class Forrestal? Get straight, peeple.
.....you know this shit was made in the 80's or early 90's right? what "peeple" are you talking to?
I believe Forrestal was murdered.
Yup
@@craig4867 above my pay grade
But why and by who or what would be the motivation for his murder.
He was murdered, so was General George Patton, and you don't have to be a German rocket scientist to figure out that is was a certain tribe of (goblins) that did it.
Gee , no kidding ! Me too . Obviously J. Forestall did not fall out a hospital window - ? Sketchy huh ?
