The first time I saw Rush live in 1992 they played this and I got emotional. My cousin loved Rush and introduced me to them. He died aged 14 in 1985 and this was one of his favourite songs. ❤
As someone mentioned Xanadu from the 1981 Montreal concert. Their most well known song is Tom Sawyer. Other great ones are Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Villa Strangiato and YYZ live in Rio. The Garden is the last song on their last album. They were still creative to the end, 40 years. The drummer Neil Peart is considered one of the top 3 drummers in history. It is definitely a rabbit hole.
Yes, what a great way to start the day! Thanks, Tash! I was introduced to Rush in high school by a friend of mine. He ended up being a drummer and was included in the celebration of life for Neil.
Thanks very much for this Tash. Rush is such an iconic Canadian group with decades of material to listen to and immerse yourself in. Cheers from southern Ontario!
RUSH is fantastic, my favorite band....I'm from Geddy's (singer) hometown of Toronto and currently live in Neil's R.I.P. (drummer) hometown of st. Catharines Ontario 🇨🇦
Xanadu from the same Exit Stage Left concert, YYZ live in Rio, Working Man live in Cleveland, Spirit of Radio live Toronto 2003. 4 excellent Rush live videos. Thanks AT!
One thing I realized fairly recently about Rush is that they're a band where much of their music, the drummer is carrying the melody. Most bands tend to have the drummer be the heart beat, and the guitars or piano carry the melody of the song. But Rush has one of the GOAT Drummers ever (RIP Neil), a drummer who was also a composer and songwriter too, and it shows, not so much in this song, but in other songs. I listened to "Subdivision" on the radio on the way home tonight, and that's a song where the melody is carried by the percussion set. Very worth a listen, like all of Rush's songs pretty much.
All that sound out of 3 musicians! 3 geniuses of sound! One of the world's top 10 bands hands down!Their drummer,Neil Peart,is considered by many to be the best drummer in the world! He certainly is in the top 3!
It's a start. LOL! The first album I heard was the live album.. All the World's a Stage.. instant fan. I saw them five times starting from permanent waves to the R40 tour. Too much to suggest.. but YYZ in Rio is a popular one. I would also suggest Tom Sawyer with the introduction by South Park. Too much to explain just look it up. Lol. More Rush please. Hope you become a fan .You won't regret it. Like the drive from Calgary to Banff National Park.... it'll all blow your mind. L0L .Thanks. keep up the great work. Good day.👍🖖💓🎶🍻🇨🇦
I saw Rush perform live in 1975 when they were the lead- in band for Nazareth. Yes, I am that old! Closer to the Heart was on the album A Farewell to Kings. Just a bit of trivial knowledge about Geddy Lee. His real first name is Garry but his Grandmother (a holocaust survivor) couldn't pronounce Garry. She called him Geddy and the name stuck. Also, Geddy Lee is a huge baseball memorabilia collector and is extremely knowledgeable about the sport. Neil Peart, Rush's Drummer was considered to be one of the best in Rock & Roll. He died in 2020.
Rush was my first "real" concert in 1978 and yes, they played this song. Only 15 songs but one of them was 2112 so the concert ran nearly two hours. Geddy Lee is the singer and bass player (he also plays keyboards), Alex Lifeson is the blonde guitarist with the magic fingers and that's the late Neil Peart on the drum kit. He's very high on most people's list for best rock and roll drummer of all time. He also wrote most of the lyrics for the band. I think this is their best song, but you might also check out Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio and By-Tor and the Snow Dog. If you have the time, the sci-fi number (pun intended) 2112 is worth it as well. Great band. RIP Neil.
Great pick Tash! Geddy Lee Vocals, Bass and Keyboards Alex Lifeson Guitar, Mandola and later keyboards Neil Peart drums, percussion and main lyrist. This is from the Exit Stage Left tour in Montreal and it is a banger concert. Xanadu from the same concert is 🤯🤯🤯 Cheers
Closer to the Heart is off the album A Farewell to Kings. It was probably the song Rush was best known for outside their fanbase until the album Moving Pictures came out. You should check out the live performance of Xanadu, it will blow your mind.
Tash, you made my day! You can't imagine the rabbit hole you got into! Prediction: do 4-5 more Rush reviews and you'll hit 5k subs. There is an incredible Rush army (or family) out there, waiting to welcome and give advise/knowledge to newcomers.
Rush were all top rated musicians. Neil Peart, the drummer, is called "The "Professor" and considered one or if not THE best drummers ever and studied all styles. He was their main lyricist. Grew up just down the road from me in St Catharines/Port Dalhousie, Ontario. He lost his wife and daughter in quick succession and took a tens of thousands of miles road trip on his bike writing a book "Ghost Rider - Travels on the healing road" about how to deal with grief. Alex Lifeson is an amazing guitarist. Geddy Lee is IMO a superlative bassist who sometimes plays keys using pedals to play the bass. No 3 piece band should create so much sound. They could switch from ballad to rock to reggae seamlessly in a single song. They also had great senses of humour with washing machines and rubber chickens on the stage.I'll try to send you a couple of links but I'm really lame on computers. I recommend Neil's 8+ minute drum solo live in Frankfurt. BTW, your boy Strombo interviewed them.
I just found your channel...and I LOVE your reactions. Rush is one of the best Canadian rock bands. This is a rabbit hole to go down into. ANother great Canadian band - Triumph ... try them too (especially their live versions.)
Welcome to the Rush rabbit hole....do want to be impressed? Do Xanada from this same concert? Exit Stage Left...the original album where Closer the heart is from, is A Farewell to Kings, Xanadu is also from this album....the guitarist is Alex LIfeson
I'm excited for you to hear other live stuff from Rush. You loved this so much and remarked about it's iconic sound. It is kind of iconic, but I think it's for a different reason than you first perceive. It's a really good piece, but it is way less intense than a lot of their music and so it's a bit of an outlier in that sense. I always felt like it was a little classic break with a vocal focus and Geddy singing pretty in a concert full of iconic moments.
From a different channel, I understand aren't keen on Rush because they never really presented themselves out there. I say you change that and do more Rush. You could start with The Spirit of Radio, my all-time favorite 😁🤘
Best band ever, especially live. No one rocks like these three musical geniuses, try Working Man Live in Cleveland or the official version of La Villa Strangiato if you want to see them really show their chops. 😊
Please react to Live in Cleveland " Working Man " 3 Musicianship Masters You will be Amazed and stunned 😯 ❤ with this performance , encore song after 3 hour concert , near the end of their career, and still haven't lost anything in skills after 4 decades together ❤❤❤❤
I can suggest at least 30 other songs of theirs that are just as good. Their live stuff is better. Sounds just like the record, but with that live excitement.
Once you go down the rabbit hole of Rush, you don't wanna come back out! Best band ever!
Rush is the best live performance I’ve ever seen. The amount of sound that these three guys can put out is incredible. Cheers!

This song is from the 1977 album A Farewell to Kings.

Yes grasshopper, I see you have found Rush. Enjoy the ride...We certainly have!
"Closer to the Heart" was on 1977's A Farewell to Kings. That album also contained the legendary epics "Xanadu" and "Cygnus X-1, Book 1: The Voyage."
Welcome to the world of Rush ... the greatest 3-man band ever to tour

RUSH is the best live band I have ever seen and I’m old and I have seen a lot of the greatest bands that ever graced the stage.
Fly by night is my favorite Rush song and album
I saw Rush perform live in 1975 when they were the lead- in band for Nazareth. Yes, I am that old! Closer to the Heart was on the album A Farewell to Kings.

As Geddy relays the story, his mother was the holocaust survivor and she would yell out her front door calling him home.
This is off "A Farewell to Kings" and has always been one of my favorites and the album as a whole is worth the listen.
Your poll sounded marvellously maple flavoured! And I see you even had a Canadian band's tee too!
Thanks. 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

This is the song that comes first to mind when the band "Rush" is mentioned... Good one Tash!! :) :) :) he can sure wail on that one high note!!! 😀❤
This song has opened up the Rush fan in me 🤣🤣
YYZ Live In Rio; Best Intro Ever - fasten your seatbelt!!
🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥
Many people have said I hated to pause Rush.
Excellent Choice! Geddy Lee is the singer with the long brown curly hair.
From a different channel, I understand aren't keen on Rush because they never really presented themselves out there. I say you change that and do more Rush. You could start with The Spirit of Radio, my all-time favorite 😁🤘
Amazing!
Truly the greatest band to never tour Australia
I love Rush and I can't wait until you react to the iconic Neil Peart drum solo. You don't have to ask which one, just google it and you'll get it.
Next up,Tom Sawyer, and anything off of the 2112 album!🥁🎹🎸🎙🎶👊🤘
Rush is 🇨🇦🔥
🤗 Subbed for Rush! 🥰🐰

Great song choice!
Hey Tash, Listen to RUSH(Zanadu ) 1981 live in Montreal!!
I can suggest at least 30 other songs of theirs that are just as good. Their live stuff is better. Sounds just like the record, but with that live excitement.
Put them on discord, cheers jimmy
Hi Tash Hell ya love me some Rush 🫶
Snakes arrows tour entros nous you will enjoy it
The only fault in this song is that it's too short.
I have never liked Rush. I know they are an iconic Canadian band but I don’t like Getty Lee’s voice and hard/metal rock as a general rule.
No one like ‘em.
