    You forgot to explain what about the second element etc... when first comparaison is Ok with &&

      Exactly! Great point! The && operation seems to return TRUE if the vector(s) under comparison are identical, by checking each element. So the result is a logical vector of length 1. The & operation checks every vector's element, so the result is a lengthy vector.
