I like to think that the lyrics of this song depict the friendship between Alex Chilton and Chris Bell before things went south, like when Big Star was in its infancy.
if they made a Jersey Boys esque Broadway musical out of Big Star that should be the first song. actually why haven't they made a Jersey Boys esque Broadyway musical out of Big Star?
That's cool of them. I was always kind of disaponted big star wasn't used. But I didn't know. I didn't have time for the show when it was wrapping up. Watch them use Elliot Smith doing thirteen for the 90s show wrap.
It's probably because this singer can't sing. It's the kind of voice where if your friend starts singing next to you, and he sounds like THIS, you tell him to stop it. The BAND sounds good, the singer is awful.

@@mikeysmith2999 I was joking dude. Referencing the 70's show theme song, which for whatever reason had some 80s hairband do a cover of a Big Star song for a 2000s TV show. But it wasn't politically correct to directly reference weed at that time so they instead changed the lyrics. Now I must ask, have you listened to the song?? @@beemelonhead1 I remember when "That 70s Show" came out, buddy. I was just referencing the original song and lyrics. If I miss interpreted your meaning sorry, and that "some 80s hair band" was Cheap Trick
Most people think Cheap Trick was the original recorder (Which I get, the Cheap Trick version's a little better, admittedly this guy isn't much of a singer even for the 70's but it's nice to see the first version available)

In my humble opinion (which isn't worth anything) this original version is FAR superior to Cheap Trick's version in every single way, though of course the latter version still has merit.
nothing better than Big Star on a rough work day... just changes the whole mood of the day

@@user-dy3uh2tp2foh I was confused, by the amount of likes and that this is a Big Star account and not a That 70s Show account
In case you ever wondered where the theme song for "That 70s Show" came from
Cheap Trick
@@spuffvermon season 1 was sung by Todd Griffin and in season 2 Cheap Trick took over and did the superior version most people recognize
They did end up using a Big Star song for the finale so kind of a full circle moment
@@coolcrudude4833 they did use Big Star's song "Thirteen" but Cheap Trick still played the theme song

Awesome. Ended up here courtesy of The Replacements.
So glad I looked up this song. It caught my eye during the credits of that 70's show! So groovy!
This is so infectious and that riff is incredible. How wasn’t this a big hit I don’t get it!

Alex wrote the riff, but Chris's strained vocals kind of give it character. @@rockclassic7150

2:00 Sounds a lot like part of the outro from I Am The Resurrection by The Stone Roses, John Squire must have been influenced by this surely.
So much of alternative music was influenced by Big Star. It certainly wouldn't be shocking.
Most obvious riff the Stone Roses took was Tim Buckley's Buzzin Fly. Resurrection!

Did the version on That 70s Show include the lyrics "Wish we had a joint so bad"? If so, then it's crazy that I never noticed it before.
