I converted in November 2020 after many years of thinking about it. I was a very heavy cannabis smoker and have PTSD and thought it was helping. Giving up cannabis was easier than I thought but I still have that urge to smoke it again. But when you are smoking but hours after getting out of bed, all day and then just before you go to sleep, you have a serious problem. As I say, I thought going from that to nothing was going to be very difficult but I found the salat very helpful here. Salaam Shaykh, I wanted to ask in regards to the ruling of smoking cannabis and the period you must wait for your prayers to be accepted? I hear that many people have said your prayer is not accepted for 40 days if you smoke/drink. Is that true? Jzak’Allāhu Khayran.
Assalamu alaykum This is answered by seekers guidance There are a few narrations similar to what you have mentioned. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever drinks wine, his prayer is not accepted from him for 40 days. If he repents, Allah forgives him…” [Tirmidhi] Drinking wine or other intoxicants is a major sin. In order for one to eradicate the sin, one engages in a sincere repentance. Legally speaking, one does not have to make up the prayers performed if the prayers were valid. “Not accepted” in the hadith means that the prayers are not accepted in terms of reward. As such, one can make up these prayers as part of the remorse felt for committing such a sin, though it is not an obligation. Ads by Muslim Ad Network Prohibition of Drinking Intoxicants & Using Drugs Drinking wine is a major sin, even if one consumes only a drop. [Dhahabi, Kitab al-Kaba’ir] This ruling is established by scholarly consensus. Allah says in the Quran: “O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination of Satan’s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. Satan’s plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of God, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?” [The Table: 90-91] “They will ask you about wine and gambling. Say: There is great sin therein.” [Baqara: 219] Scholars determine that the legal reason for the prohibition of drinking wine is because it is a drink that intoxicates. Thus, any drink that results in intoxication is also forbidden to consume, like many modern-day alcoholic beverages. [al-Asadi, al-Mujiz] Smoking marijuana is also prohibited “…because it corrupts the mind and diverts one from remembering Allah and the prayer…” [al-Nakhlawi, al-Hadhr wa al-Ibaha] Explanation of the Hadith The prayer is the best form of worship performed by the body. Therefore, if it is not accepted, then what is lesser than this in worship is also intended. The reason 40 days were specified is because wine is said to stay in the body, the veins, and the nerves for this amount of time. [al-Manawi, Fayd al-Qadir] Acceptance of Prayers There is a distinction scholars like to make between acceptance in terms of validity and acceptance in terms of reward. Acceptance in terms of validity means that one performed all of the prayer’s conditions, pillars, and necessary actions outlined by the jurists. Consequently, the prayer is valid and it does not need to be made up. Acceptance in terms of reward means that one may have performed the prayer in the correct manner but it is dependent upon Allah’s generosity if its performance is rewarded. The aforementioned hadith indicates that one who drinks intoxicants will not receive the reward for the prayers performed for 40 days unless one repents. It does not mean that the prayers are invalid and need to be made up because they are missing a condition of validity. [ibn al-Najar, al-Kawkab al-Munir] Rather, it demonstrates the beauty of Islam because even if one wronged themselves, there is still hope for forgiveness and making a new beginning. Allah says in the Quran, “Say: Oh my slaves who have transgressed against yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah, verily, Allah forgives all sins.” [Throngs: 53] Engage in Repentance Ads by Muslim Ad Network If one commits a major sin, a sincere repentance is the only thing that can absolve one from it. One pays back or returns what one owes if the sin involves the rights of others. [Nawawi, Riyad al-Salihin] No one should ever despair Allah’s mercy if they’ve truly repented. He is the only One who can forgive us for the wrong we willingly commit. He is oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Allah says in the All-Mightly Quran: “And those who, when they do an evil thing or wrong themselves, remember Allah and implore forgiveness for their sins - Who forgives sins save Allah only? - and will not knowingly repeat (the wrong) they did.” [Ali Imran: 135] “Ask your Lord for forgiveness and then turn in repentance to Him.” [Hud: 3] “O you who believe! Great video but I was just wondering if drugs that are considered stimulants like adderral or cocaine which make you energetic fall under intoxicants. I’m almost sure Cocaine is haram but it doesn’t fall under the definition provided
It alters the brains chemistry and is harmful so it does fall under the category of intoxication. A good example is its illegal worldwide to operate a machine or drive while under influence of cocaine due to the harms
Coco leaves are useful in low oxygen environments. So its all about context and usage. Cannabis has 1000 + applications. The plant does not force anyone to smoke it! So its all down to intent!
okay I have a lot to say as someone who is not only a past HABITUAL user of weed but I was a BAD heroin addict in the past and have had much much experience with all drugs/narcotics (embarrassingly enough) … however 1) I am Islamic (devoutly practice/believe - MashAllah) - 2) marijuana DOES fog the intellect at times, though it can help creativity, and it certainly affects memory without a DOUBT ….. so yes it is (and SHOULD be) haram simply for the fogging of the intellect purpose let alone the actual possibility (though small) of mental issues so obviously im not here to advocate such a “natural” narcotic ….HOWEVER the haqq is the haqq and we must be truthful in ALL areas … you must have either experience to make many of these claims or be 100% truthful with the research - because first, it DOES NOT cause anger (at all….maybe 1% of users) in fact, it makes you the opposite of argumentative…. Next, the LD 50 (the lethal dose at 50%) of marijuana alone, is nearly impossible to kill you - not one human as every died from the alkaloid of THC alone in recorded history - because its actually impossible to smoke 4 pounds in a hour time, they would need to eat about bricks of the marijuana itself to kill you, and thats if u dont throw up and are capable of doing so since it does not even cross the BBB (blood-brain-barrier) by consuming the plant alone via the digestive system unless broken down into a oil base (hence edibles) now nitrous oxide (canisters) is haram as well and it totallllyyy fogs the intellect at the moment of use but it also can damage the intellect in the long run since it literally kills human brain cells due to the cut off of oxygen (thats a fact, whether it lasts 40 secs or not) - BUT it has NO similarities to cocaine AT ALL lol Next DMT is a wholeeeee other subject then what has been mentioned above - and I read the same paper and the same mans book from AZ called the spirit molecule (yearsss ago) and have had my fairrrrr share of expierence- in fact, it lasts nearly minutes (thats it) and does not exactly fog the intellect and certainly not your memory in the way other narcotics do (like how lysergamines can - hallucinogenics such as LSD, 2C-B, etc, which I find def Haram because they are strictly recreational unlike tryptamine alkaloids/molecules such as DMT and psilocybin) - now ayuascha (the “drink form” u were talking about) definitely takes on a different form when digested and can take the intellect to some dark places for 5 hours if your life at that point is a mess (because like psilocybin it actually shows u ur character flaws, makes u feel guilty for every time u lied, people you were mean to, etc) but I still would say ayuascha falls closer in line with haram since much like salvia and/or LSD it CAN cause long term mental issues (as research as shown) - but DMT alone in its usual smokable form is a TOTALLY diff subject ….. it actually increases (by 85% in studies) of nonbelievers to believe in creation after its quick 5 minute trip ….. interesting no? makes people no longer fear death (hence why studies are still going on with psilocybin and DMT with terminally ill Cancer patients)- so there ARE certainly benefits in DMT (or even 5-MEO-DMT) that all other narcotics don’t have, and it needs more research (and it does not bring you to dark places, though the power of the trip itself can be very overwhelming if you dont submit)- WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID about DMT ….Personally, I think if your islamic, why do you even need it? you already believe, right? and if anything it can make you start believing that maybe theres more than just Allah (which is impossible as shown by the Kalam Cosmological argument) - stick with Tasawwuf - but to outright declare DMT haram, is jumping the gun at this stage…. barakah feekum sheikh
There are still people discussing about status of canabis while we are seing a lot of people becoming awfull by this drug. No need to speak about accidents caused by smoking cannabis. Does it need fatwa to understand this is bad ???????????????, I'm seing 4 hands down ? Are they consumers or dealers ???
this is NOT a Subject that can be answered easily . You have stated that Imam Abu Hanifa states it is permisable to use low doses of Nabeez ( which can intoxicate if i have understood correctly . Yet you have now placed a Blanket Fatwa saying THC Cannabis is Clearly Haram ?? Okay the problem we have is that cannabis is not like the cannabis which was available 30 years ..there has been vast advancements in THC based MEDICAL cannabis Which is now available with precription to treat a massive amount of conditions from pain /stomach problems /anxiety /depression / epilepsy in children etc etc. If you are saying THC is haram full stop and you will be punished for its use , does that also apply to the millions of Muslims Who are prescribed Drugs such as Diazepam /codeine /pregabaline /zopiclone /Citalopram . If you do your research you will find that these Conventianal Drugs which are widely precribed are in FACT a LOT MORE harmful in regards to side Effects and toxicity on the Body . Also a lot of them will fulfill the criteria of INTOXICATION according to your 4 points . SO are they Also HARAM?
THC is what gets you high, CBD has medicinal uses. Got that straightened out first, so next, other drugs. Consuming weed and other drugs for enjoyment vs medical reasons is different. Taking ones intention is also very important. Of course consuming drugs for enjoyment is haram 100%, but medicinal is different. Do you actually need it? If so, for how long? When will you stop? You need to look at your intention before you do anything that may or may not be haram.
Don’t justify smoking the reefer it’s haram clear cut i was along term smoker and I couldn’t read Salah whilst stoned therefore it’s clear it’s haram I was also corrupted whilst using it more prone to committing vile sins now im sober im much more disciplined Stay away from that evil herb if u die whilst stoned it’s game over

There are a few narrations similar to what you have mentioned. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever drinks wine, his prayer is not accepted from him for 40 days. If he repents, Allah forgives him…” [Tirmidhi]
Drinking wine or other intoxicants is a major sin. In order for one to eradicate the sin, one engages in a sincere repentance. Prohibition of Drinking Intoxicants & Using Drugs
Drinking wine is a major sin, even if one consumes only a drop. [Dhahabi, Kitab al-Kaba’ir] This ruling is established by scholarly consensus. Allah says in the Quran:
“O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination of Satan’s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. Satan’s plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of God, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?” [The Table: 90-91]
“They will ask you about wine and gambling. Say: There is great sin therein.” [Baqara: 219]
Scholars determine that the legal reason for the prohibition of drinking wine is because it is a drink that intoxicates. Thus, any drink that results in intoxication is also forbidden to consume, like many modern-day alcoholic beverages. [al-Asadi, al-Mujiz]
Smoking marijuana is also prohibited “…because it corrupts the mind and diverts one from remembering Allah and the prayer…” [al-Nakhlawi, al-Hadhr wa al-Ibaha]
Explanation of the Hadith
The prayer is the best form of worship performed by the body. Therefore, if it is not accepted, then what is lesser than this in worship is also intended. The reason 40 days were specified is because wine is said to stay in the body, the veins, and the nerves for this amount of time. [al-Manawi, Fayd al-Qadir]
Acceptance of Prayers
There is a distinction scholars like to make between acceptance in terms of validity and acceptance in terms of reward.

Cocaine makes you do fisad so it does fall into the category.
Coco leaves are useful in low oxygen environments. So its all about context and usage. Cannabis has 1000 + applications. The plant does not force anyone to smoke it! So its all down to intent!
@@jammapcb that just means the plant isnt impure to touch, not a licence to get high.

THC does what? CBD does what?
@1 hr DMT discussion
okay I have a lot to say as someone who is not only a past HABITUAL user of weed but I was a BAD heroin addict in the past and have had much much experience with all drugs/narcotics (embarrassingly enough) … however
1) I am Islamic (devoutly practice/believe - MashAllah) - 2) marijuana DOES fog the intellect at times, though it can help creativity, and it certainly affects memory without a DOUBT ….. so yes it is (and SHOULD be) haram simply for the fogging of the intellect purpose let alone the actual possibility (though small) of mental issues
so obviously im not here to advocate such a “natural” narcotic ….HOWEVER the haqq is the haqq and we must be truthful in ALL areas … you must have either experience to make many of these claims or be 100% truthful with the research - because first, it DOES NOT cause anger (at all….maybe 1% of users) in fact, it makes you the opposite of argumentative…. Next, the LD 50 (the lethal dose at 50%) of marijuana alone, is nearly impossible to kill you - not one human as every died from the alkaloid of THC alone in recorded history - because its actually impossible to smoke 4 pounds in a hour time, they would need to eat about bricks of the marijuana itself to kill you, and thats if u dont throw up and are capable of doing so since it does not even cross the BBB (blood-brain-barrier) by consuming the plant alone via the digestive system unless broken down into a oil base (hence edibles)
now nitrous oxide (canisters) is haram as well and it totallllyyy fogs the intellect at the moment of use but it also can damage the intellect in the long run since it literally kills human brain cells due to the cut off of oxygen (thats a fact, whether it lasts 40 secs or not) - BUT it has NO similarities to cocaine AT ALL lol
Next DMT is a wholeeeee other subject then what has been mentioned above - and I read the same paper and the same mans book from AZ called the spirit molecule (yearsss ago) and have had my fairrrrr share of expierence- in fact, it lasts nearly minutes (thats it) and does not exactly fog the intellect and certainly not your memory in the way other narcotics do (like how lysergamines can - hallucinogenics such as LSD, 2C-B, etc, which I find def Haram because they are strictly recreational unlike tryptamine alkaloids/molecules such as DMT and psilocybin) - now ayuascha (the “drink form” u were talking about) definitely takes on a different form when digested and can take the intellect to some dark places for 5 hours if your life at that point is a mess (because like psilocybin it actually shows u ur character flaws, makes u feel guilty for every time u lied, people you were mean to, etc) but I still would say ayuascha falls closer in line with haram since much like salvia and/or LSD it CAN cause long term mental issues (as research as shown) - but DMT alone in its usual smokable form is a TOTALLY diff subject ….. it actually increases (by 85% in studies) of nonbelievers to believe in creation after its quick 5 minute trip ….. interesting no? makes people no longer fear death (hence why studies are still going on with psilocybin and DMT with terminally ill Cancer patients)- so there ARE certainly benefits in DMT (or even 5-MEO-DMT) that all other narcotics don’t have, and it needs more research (and it does not bring you to dark places, though the power of the trip itself can be very overwhelming if you dont submit)- WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID about DMT ….Personally, I think if your islamic, why do you even need it? you already believe, right? and if anything it can make you start believing that maybe theres more than just Allah (which is impossible as shown by the Kalam Cosmological argument) - stick with Tasawwuf - but to outright declare DMT haram, is jumping the gun at this stage….
barakah feekum sheikh
You're a real one
There are still people discussing about status of canabis while we are seing a lot of people becoming awfull by this drug.
No need to speak about accidents caused by smoking cannabis.
Does it need fatwa to understand this is bad ???????????????,
I'm seing 4 hands down ? Are they consumers or dealers ???
Shaykh, I'm really sad that you need to make a course on this topic ....
That means regression has occured ...
this is NOT a Subject that can be answered easily .
If you do your research you will find that these Conventianal Drugs which are widely precribed
are in FACT a LOT MORE harmful in regards to side Effects and toxicity on the Body . Also a lot of them will
fulfill the criteria of INTOXICATION according to your 4 points .
Don’t justify smoking the reefer it’s haram clear cut i was along term smoker and I couldn’t read Salah whilst stoned therefore it’s clear it’s haram
I was also corrupted whilst using it more prone to committing vile sins now im sober im much more disciplined
Stay away from that evil herb if u die whilst stoned it’s game over
@@endofd-d7c If someone is smoking recreationally and off there face off smoking Blunts then clearly that is haram But the next man is using a vapouriser on low heat to micro dose medical weed to control there nerve pain . How is that haram ?. thats all im trying to point out . cannabis is a herb whether u abuse it recreationally or use it with control in a medical setting , makes the differnce between halal and haram . u cant straight out say haram
