she's still kicking... the MacBook is also the ONE for me because of the simplicity and sturdiness of the software. Tried all the ThinkPad lines - actually I use a new t14 wit PopOS for work. Doom Emacs is the way...and I am being sold forever to stow and nixOS environments.Good to have you back live. Miss your streams girl.
Thinkpads having terrible display(-options) is unfortunately a very old problem, and I have no clue why. I get that they are business-machines, but IPS monitors have long been standard for good office monitors. They sometimes even have options for better screens, but LCD mods are still very common.
My laptop's an X1 Carbon with 4k touchscreen display (gen 1 I think?). I disable the touchscreen as I don't use it and cleaning it while on can be... unpredictable! 😆 I prefer my desktop overall for a larger screen estate (32" + either 27" or 34"UW depending where I am) but the 4k IPS screen is great for developing on, though I see they seem to have dropped the 4k on newer generations.
I also had an issue with airpods pro coming off my ears a lot, try using some of the bigger tips that come separate when you buy them, fixed the issue for me
You are absolutely right with paper notes. I've tried (and spent tons) on all sorts of digital note taking (before the iPad). Even now, the iPad with anti glare screen protector (which makes the screen feel more papery) still is no match for the visceral feel of pen on paper. I don't think nothing ever will.
Yes, I tried to double down on paper and use A4 printer paper without any stitching, and that has a number of unexpected benefits. It's extensible, it's modular, and you can have it so if you spread the papers you get a big canvas of notes, and if you flip them and spread them you get notes of a different subject. Very handy. I like noting that a past note is wrong and drawing an arrow to the new note.
buying macbook for the aesthetics, buying dell to install linux lmao. Arch + cosmic (with tilling on) is literally nice tbh, but Hyprland is best. also I keep a deodorant, just in case the weather gets cloudy or too warm and get I wet(either by rain or sweat.)
Unfortunately apple absolutely demolishes the competition when it comes to content-related stuff. Best cam on the iPhone, easy to transfer media from phone to computer and vice-versa, best for graphic design + video editing and whatnot
I dig the loadout. Mine is similar, just a bit more... how should I say... chaotic. I would highly recommend adding a notebook with a dot grid instead of ruled lines. I've found it invaluable.
@bashbunni My use case is a bit different from yours as I'm still trying to break into software development. It's an amalgamation of 20 years of working on various computer and electronic equipment, so I have a nest of cables and adapters for everything from networking equipment to industrial PLCs to various automotive interfaces. Throw in some other diagnostic equipment, tools, laptop and of course my paper notebooks and you get 40+ lbs of chaos. 😅
I had a t480s but chose a framework 13 and have been really happy. Even though Linux has its pitfalls, I think it’s very fun to tinker and personalize every aspect of my environment. (Arch user btw)
I hate laptops, so I only buy ultra cheap ones for coding and writing on the go. Currently Lenovo 300w with Fedora. If I had to go with a laptop exclusively instead of a workstation, it would be a MacBook as well. Nothing compares to what you get for the money. For “content creation” keep in mind that the VFX reference platform is basically RockyOS. Resolve does work on Pop!OS though (I’ve only seen it, not currently on Pop! myself), also on Fedora.
I basically have a gremlin version of the same. Backpack with A4 printer paper, a cheap 2017 laptop and a bottle of juice that has water instead of juice. And no bags in the bag as of now, but I see he point.
"Fall Raven" haha. As a Swede I've never heard anyone from outside of Sweden pronounce Fjällräven before. It means "The arctic fox". "Fjäll" = "Alp", "Räven" = "The fox".
Watch out with stickers on the Macbook. I had a Netflix shaped discolouring on my old Macbook Pro because of the glue lol. Also, what are the notebooks. THey are niiiice
Hey 👋 thanks for the video. It’s nice to see how other developers store there devices. Can you share those SSD’s? They are very small and convenient. I got a SanDisk and it’s also extremely small, but those you got look even more practical.
I work from home, if i have my bag with me I'm either or going out or doing groceries and I pack only my keys, my documents and my wallet 😊 my laptop never leaves home
I've been in gremlin mode spending more time on coding than content lately. I'll be posting again more regularly soon :) Just needed some time to really focus on my coding goals
I WISH I could get Davinci Resolve running on my linux... It installs, running is a whole other issue. It wants wonky old packages. Someone JUST a video on installing on Ubuntu 24.04, I'll have to give it a watch... but I am hopeful =_=;
davinci resolve on linux is actually hot trash. i tried to cope through it for 2 months and it was terrible. i have an ssd with windows just so i can edit.
@@bashbunni if i did more creative work like you i'd probably use a mac too, but as a dev now, i am more excited about the future arm windows laptops (thin & light)

100% agree on macs
Do you have Linux on that MacBook?
How many years of experience you have as a software developer ?
best and probably two (but big) advantages of a mac are screen and the battery life.
True. The built in mic and cam are decent too
Totally with on you on the writing thing. There is something about writing that other forms of note taking just lack.

+1 on value of macbook. anyone who says they aren't worth it, they just don't get it.
The base models are good value. Once you need more than 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, those upgrades become expensive real fast.
