Firecats are truly amazing sleds in every way. I've owned 2 F7's and an F6'. My favorite was the 04 F6 because it punched so far above it's weight. I killed 800's of the same vintage. Never ever left me stranded with 7000 km's on the clock.
No if you know 2 strokes its a matter of the cat rider not having the experience to know to keep heat in his pipes in prep for first run. then he handed the four stoke his hind end after that in next runs by not sitting idling waiting so long for the start....
Good runs, but that was a game of traction, not power. The snow was a little too loose for that F7. Not to mention, the Doo has a lot more track on the ground. On hard packed, it would have been a roll of the dice.
@Jeffrey Hagelin I'm not sure what stats you're reading, but Doo's 1200 4Tec is rated at about 125-130hp. Cat's 700 twin was 140-145hp. Remember...Doo's 1200 had no turbo option and was essentially a work horse. And cat's 700 was a 2-stroke and designed specifically with performance in mind. The 1200 Renegade also clocks in at 520lbs, to the Cats 435lbs. Not only is the Firecat a faster sled...it's a MUCH faster sled. The Firecat's achilleas heel was the narrow 13.5" track. Just not enough rubber on the ground for anything but hard packed, or ice.
@Jeffrey Hagelin No chance my friend. I've been in the sled game for 30+ years and been involved in every kind of racing their is. I've personally watched rock stock F7's run upwards of 120mph on ice. That was completely stock...no suspension tuning, nothing. I've never seen a stock 1200 break 110mph. And most of them don't get much over 100. The 700 Firecat is in a different league altogether. Remember....this is the sled that retired all other 700-class snowmobiles of its time. I've seen 700 Firecats keep pace with Mach Z's in short jaunts and a Mach Z of any year will MURDER a 1200 Doo.
@Jeffrey Hagelin I'll say it again, since you missed it. This was an issue of traction, not performance. The Renegade 1200 has a 136" x 15" x 1.25"...or possibly 1.5" track depending on the model. in loose snow. The Firecat has a LOT less track on the ground with 13.5 x 128 x 1.0. On hard packed, that F7 would have beat that 1200 like a red headed stepchild. If you don't know that....you don't know snowmobiles!
Hi Guys. I am thinking about buying a 2011 Skidoo 1200 and have been looking for info on the sled. I was just wondering how people like their machines. Any issues that I need to know about before buying. Top speed? Are these sleds considered a rider forward sled. What is the track length. How well do they do in deep snow? Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Ah some days i miss my F7. There sure were good on the hardpack.
finally a race where you can see both sleds, same time..
It’s all about lane choice...The right lane always wins.

I love my 2019 POLARIS switchback 144 but I miss my old firecat
Looks like the f7 crowded him off on the last run. The 1200 starts on the left and ends up on the right.

@Jeffrey Hagelin I get it...you're new to snowmobiling. Don't worry...stick around. You'll learn.
@Jeffrey Hagelin Did you delete your last response because after you read it, you realized you agreed with me? lol
Are either one of those sleds actually warmed up, Before they initially took off?
I got both. And I live just up the road we should ride. Big shed on corner just south of you
my 1200 needs a 1.25 inch track. spins with power on my touring se
Sick f7 stock?

Did you end up buying one ?
Ruckus I bought a 2016 mxz blizzard 800r. It’s a great sled and I love it
ski-doo win first run and after not take grip enymore.
Is the 1200 a turbo?
Doo didn't have a turbo sled back then.
that's a little better
that 1200 has around 123 horsepower and that f7 has a good 140 now look how much better a fourstroke is
Would disagree 4 strokes are garbage
@@ianlarue4985 40ks on a yammy here and never done anything more than clutches
Its obvious...and I don't even like arctic cat's.....
that wasn't a 1200
Why do you think that?
Absolutely is
