Holy shit. He straight up went to the next game. Wish he did the same with Half-life. Anyway, boy! Halo 2 is a massive improvement in every front. The gameplay, graphics, multiplayer and especially level design. And story.
@@davidf2676 I was misremembering, as it turns out. They spent about $1 million per minute for a full hour of cutscenes. I thought it was 50 mil for 26 minutes.
In my opinion, it wasn't worth it. They're flash and that's all. The original Halo 2 cutscenes are vastly better directed (pacing, camera movement, shot composition, general sense of drama) and are done in-engine. I get the sense that whoever directed the CGI cutscenes was a very talented VFX artist, but knew basically nothing about strong cinematic direction. If they were updated with the Anniversary graphics and perhaps given a bump to the facial animations it would've been perfect, but instead we just get this jarring switch to some unnecessary FMV's.
@@DeuceDevious That's funny. I actually broke down why the new cutscenes aren't good, but you decided it was "blah blah blah fealty". I don't think I'm the one working on blind logic here.
So something I have to add from the lore that the game Reach retconed out. Now I'm pretty sure it was done to explain the massive differences in guns from CE and 2. But in the lore, the Pillar of Autumn was on a special assignment before the invasion of Reach went down. Basically all the surviving and active Spartan 2s were assembled for a special retrieval operation. Kitted out with all sorts of special issue weapons and tools, to abduct a Prophet. The Pillar of Autumn was nearly rebuilt from the ground up to use a new style of MAC gun that fired three shot burts , and to help facilitate Spartan operations. A couple of Pelicans with titanium ramming prows, special issue ammo and gun modifications. Then the invasion of Reach happens while the final preparations were being made. Most of the Spartans went groundside to help push back the ground forces, but the general order to retreat from orbit came soon after. The Pillar of Autumn did a blind jump with only the wounded Spartan Linda and John on board, with I think 15 or so Spartan 2s left on Reach. So the guns in CE were chosen for special operations conducting boarding actions. You had a rifle with a huge mag for suppression. A pistol that had explosive ammo and a scope for pocket sniping. A shotgun with a tight choke for longer corridors. All tailored for a very specific battlefield.
how much you want to bet that woolie was holding the triggers down when his guns were empty. it's real funny but also mildly annoying when he refused to replace any of his empty weapons. that will probably continue for the next couple of episodes.
I forgot how much I loved this series. I just showed my son this game because I was reminded by you guys. Hes about the same age I was when i first played halo and he loves it. This is a good feeling. Woolie these games are RAD and I'm so excited for you!
I watched that giving them back their bomb scene a million times back in the day from the E3 reveal on dial-up no less. As a 14 year kid i lost my shit over how badass that moment was.
I remember there was some question Woolie got at a panel a while back where someone asked him if he liked the Halo soundtracks, or something to that effect. Woolie, having not played the games yet, of course didn't have any strong feelings on them and said something to the effect of "I mean they're like orchestras and stuff, it's fine." So, I really enjoy going from that to "Turning down Halo music hurts me a little bit." I feel like V's underselling the pistol. I don't have like, hard DPS on it or anything, but the last time I played it felt killy enough. I think it has a good niche as a headshot weapon you can dual wield, so you take it with a plasma rifle or plasma pistol and just shred through shields and pop the skull without needing to switch weapons. Of course, dual wield weapons are, for the most part, not that good, but V seems like he's waiting to let Woolie down gently on that one so I'm not sure why he's singling out the pistol as bad.
Woolie passing over shotgun multiple times while mistaking an SMG, which he has already seen on a rack and is HOLDING IN HIS HAND as a Shotgun... This is gonna be fun.
Oh darn I feel kinda bad for Woolie! He had the experience of getting excited for the pistol followed by the crushing realization of the change really quick
I know they're short games I just think it's really on brand to have a whole well reasoned argument on why you won't do a thing and then just immediately do it.
Shoutouts to Blur Studios which did all the revamped cutscenes in Halo 2, as well as the cinematic trailers for the new Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls Online, the Batman Arkham games, Star Wars the Old Republic, etc etc
I always prefered the Mark V armor for Chief. To me, it always looked more effective than the Mark VI with more of the body being covered in armor plates and the pouches around the waist were a nice detail. I also think it better sold the idea that the whole shuit could only be taken off with machinery whereas the Mark VI looks easily removable.
Watched the Manga on this one, you guys are in for a real treat. Woolie GETS IT guys!! He is feeling all those beats that we felt all those years ago . One thing i will say though guys, don't keep on with yelling at Woolie to optimise his gameplay. You don't HAVE to use a shield stripper and follow with a headshot every time. You don't have to use a sword to destroy every flood body. You're all forgetting how it was to play this game as a kid and just use whatever weapon takes your fancy.
16:36 I remember from one of the Halo books that the Covenant could've just "jumped" behind the MAC installations. IIRC Cortana has some time to pour through the systems of a Covenant ship and she figures out how to do it pretty quickly. The same goes for the shield and armor suit technology; IIRC the Chiefs shield tech is superior to the Elite's.
The raw potential of their gear is super high, but the way the Covenant use it is horrible. For me, the perfect emblem of that has always been how they make new plasma weapons, fire them until the battery is empty, and then THROW THEM AWAY. Versus humanity, who gets shields and energy weapons purely off the tiny scraps they can cobble together while getting destroyed.
@@RoyalFusilier Absolutely. Cortana said that the Covenant is imitative not innovative. But TBF I'd be a little reluctant if ancient sapient machines outright state that I'm one of the "Reclaimers".

So in the book they explain how Johnson survived the flood even though you saw him get got in jenkins' cam in the 343 guilty spark mission. Minor spoilers ahead but it doesn't get discussed in game as far as I know. Johnson had served in so many battles against the covenant he contracted a disease called borhin's syndrome (probably misspelling that) from the radiation that plasma weapons output. It affects your nervous system and makes it painful to move the longer it goes untreated. He refused treatment because it would take him out of action for 4 months. He continued fighting through the pain of this terminal illness. Apparently the flood don't like this radiation and Johnson was so laden with it that they just said lol fuck this and did not assimilate him, allowing him opportunity to escape on a pelican, mentioned by little v. I could be forgetting details but it's a neat little thing they addressed.:)
I have to say, Woolie is doing better in the combat encounters now That said I have to wonder how he didn't notice his left Plasma Rifle had already ran out of ammo even after he died
My Halo veteran brain was screaming the whole time "USE THE BR! WHY ARE YOU NOT USING THE BR!?" Then I remembered this isn't legendary and is actually doable without the problem solver. Also In Amber Clad is the best ship name in the games IMO.

Halo 2 is the most important game I ever played. Sure, I've played games I liked more, but Halo 2 has had a lasting influence on me. The main factor being it's online community. It was a special time in gaming, something that hasn't been replicated since. I think it comes down to several factors, the primary one being that it was basically the main game to play on Xbox Live. There was no party chat back then. You either talked to people in game, or you didn't talk at all. So you made friends. And to talk to those friends, you had to be on Halo 2. And since there wasn't really anything else to be playing (barring your Splinter Cell Chaos Theorys and Star Wars Battlefront IIs), you were probably on Halo. Plus with clans and different sub communities, there was always something to do. You had your MLG Pro Wannabes, you had your Machinima community, you had the people dedicated to glitching the game in any way possible, trying to get out of every map. And of course the majesty of the "Invite All" button. You want a fun custom game and to meet new people? Invite all your friends. They invite all their friends. Suddenly you have a Zombies game or Tower of Power to play. There was just something incredible about it. I made friends I still have to this day, all these years later. Halo 2 will always be close to my heart.
That "invite all" button was so powerful Set up a free for all custom game on Lockout where everyone spawns with a shotgun and a random secondary and just see who shows up lol
My favorite part for you Woolie, if you haven't read that book yet in the first terminal here (The Cole Protocol) is the reaction from the elites after the spartan left. They're like WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT. It's so hilarious to me but it makes sense.

The shotgun In H2 is so bad compared to the one in Combat Evolved.
It's giving me ptsd again from the DOOM Eternal Super-Shotgun-through
You were supposed to board that Assault Carrier, but that mission was cut and became that Bomb scene.
Also, this is the only scene were the new content depicting the Armor having small thrusters would really help this scene
Holy shit. He straight up went to the next game. Wish he did the same with Half-life. Anyway, boy! Halo 2 is a massive improvement in every front. The gameplay, graphics, multiplayer and especially level design. And story.
The cutscenes in Halo 2 Remaster had better be great. Microsoft spent $2 million per minute to get them remade for it. Totally worth it, though.
Don't worry they fixed Arbis reference to the Banshee crash.
@@MirandaAndUh blah blah blah let go of your feallty to the old halo and enjoy the new thing.
@@DeuceDevious That's funny. I actually broke down why the new cutscenes aren't good, but you decided it was "blah blah blah fealty". I don't think I'm the one working on blind logic here.
Halo cannon: The Flood Gagged when it tried to eat Johnson, he tastes like plasma grenades.
Project Orion unknowingly at work.
Can't wait to see Woolie's hype moment when the game switches over to "Virgil's" story.
My boy Keith!
"Just one question. What if you miss Woolie's stream?"
"I won't."
Guys are swooning for the cutscenes. Me I swooned over the dialogue. Hope you guys enjoy!
I remember there was some question Woolie got at a panel a while back where someone asked him if he liked the Halo soundtracks, or something to that effect. Woolie, having not played the games yet, of course didn't have any strong feelings on them and said something to the effect of "I mean they're like orchestras and stuff, it's fine." So, I really enjoy going from that to "Turning down Halo music hurts me a little bit."
I feel like V's underselling the pistol.
I remember back in the h2 mp days, I'd run smg and pistol on coagulation ctf and wreck people coming in for the flag
Halo 3 coming in a few days, perfection.
Petition for Reggie and Minh for Halo 3 co op.
That would be both great, and terrible, much like the Halo rings themselves...
I've always wanted to see a full four player playthrough of three, I never had enough friends.
Whoo 4 man co-op!
It would be like a bunch of friends... Best friends... playing together...
@@Brave_SJ I think Roosterteeth did it many years ago, but yeah, I share your pain.
Woolie spending half the episode with an empty gun is exactly what I would have expected when he discovered duel wielding.
Man, Keith David's so f*cking good as the Arbiter. Absolutely love this game!
Oh good, Woolie still insists on firing plasma weapons until overheat instead of using controlled bursts which would be more efficient.
“When you first saw this video in your notifications were you blinded by its majesty?”
Woolie saw V doing his "Plasma Pistol Only" Challenge and decided to try to one up him with a "Never Check his Ammo Counter" challenge
9:40 Alright, so let's get these out on to a tray.
And thus Woolie proves the exception to his own rule of not doing the sequel directly after because he actually wants to see how it goes.
Also halo games/FPS games are pretty quick compared to the stuff he usually plays
Woolie can definitely beat the campaign in 2 streaming sessions especially on co-op.
I know they're short games I just think it's really on brand to have a whole well reasoned argument on why you won't do a thing and then just immediately do it.
BEES AND TOAST MCC is kind of one game if ya wanna stretch
So glad this is the timeline I live in.
Yes
Stay positive, vanilla me 👍
Woolie’s not ready for this story, it’s banging
16:32
"Something's not right....The fleet that destroyed Reach was fifty times this size."
And you get to see that when you play Reach, which is nice.
Holy shit, Woolie, look at your gorram ammo counters!
Yesssss. This timeline's gettin crazy
Shoutouts to Blur Studios which did all the revamped cutscenes in Halo 2, as well as the cinematic trailers for the new Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls Online, the Batman Arkham games, Star Wars the Old Republic, etc etc
Halo 1: Start the fight
Halo 2: Continue the fight
Halo 3: Finish the fight
Halo 4: Start another fight?
Halo 5: Errrrr...
Halo infinite: Get back to the fight that was good maybe?
@@rikowolfin4984 I'd say it's more
Halo Infinite: Guys please come back we're sorry.
I hope he plays Reach if he does any of the games after 3.
Reach: sometimes you can’t win a fight
I always prefered the Mark V armor for Chief. To me, it always looked more effective than the Mark VI with more of the body being covered in armor plates and the pouches around the waist were a nice detail. I also think it better sold the idea that the whole shuit could only be taken off with machinery whereas the Mark VI looks easily removable.
"I now have a shotgun, it lets me engage from extreme distances!"
Halo 2 is my favorite game of all time! Practically was raised with it.
Woolie REALLY needs to learn to look at his ammo counts now and then, especially if he's going to be dual wielding a lot.
looks like Woolie "failing to snipe with shotguns" Madden is back
Dual wielding needlers in 2 was so broken that the needler was never a good gun ever since
A little concerned with how long it took Woolie to noticed he had an empty gun.
Halo 2 is my favorite of the series
Watched the Manga on this one, you guys are in for a real treat. Woolie GETS IT guys!! He is feeling all those beats that we felt all those years ago .
One thing i will say though guys, don't keep on with yelling at Woolie to optimise his gameplay. You don't HAVE to use a shield stripper and follow with a headshot every time. You don't have to use a sword to destroy every flood body. You're all forgetting how it was to play this game as a kid and just use whatever weapon takes your fancy.
I certainly don't mind him playing it however he wants to, but I really hope he notices empty weapons and replaces them in a timely manner.
@@RoyalFusilier Allow me to nerd out one more time lol. The Forerunner tech was so insane! IIRC an entire planet's worth of space to inhabit could be created in a Slipstream entrance only a few meters in circumference.
"which way?"
Probably that massive window your standing next to woolie. That'd be a safe bet.
Woolie asking questions about mechanics and feeling stuff out, only to forget the basics of ammo preservation and effective tice weapon range......
All I can hear when Tartarus talks is Principal Lewis
I hear Captain Gantu.
Ok I love the fact this series is continuing, as someone who started Halo at 3 I am so jealous of Woolie. He gets to experience the series as intended. Also I love the dynamic between him and V.
God bless V for carrying 75% of the combat, cause Woolie still thinks SMGs and Shotguns are waaaay longer range than they are.
It would help if V mentioned that the optimal ranges are when the reticle turns red. Woolz is trying to snipe everything with all the guns
Oh wow. This is different. Usually Woolie just likes to sit on the sequel for years like it's egg that takes years to hatch.
He's been eased in by Doom and now he's playing the classics.
_He's beginning to feel it._
The only one I never played, and also the best one apparently. Can't wait to see why.
Bruh play that shit
Garth Andrews I literally hate the multiplayer the most out of all of them.
The multiplayer is easily the best personally I’d say best campaign is either 3 or ODST
Best campaign.
Best story.
Best multiplayer.
Got a bad rap because children couldn't handle cliffhangers or not playing as Master Chief.
Go play it ASAP.
Though I like to play Halo 3 the most, Halo 2 definitely had the best story, and it’s just so cool all around.
I did not expect Keith David to be in this game vut every time I hear him I automatically know that character is a badass.
I have to say, Woolie is doing better in the combat encounters now
That said I have to wonder how he didn't notice his left Plasma Rifle had already ran out of ammo even after he died
The jump in cinematic quality from the 1st game to the 2nd is incredible. Halo 2 is bombastic in a way that even 3 couldn't reach.
My Halo veteran brain was screaming the whole time "USE THE BR! WHY ARE YOU NOT USING THE BR!?" Then I remembered this isn't legendary and is actually doable without the problem solver.
Also In Amber Clad is the best ship name in the games IMO.
Awesome. Was hoping for this. I eagerly wait to see Woolie's reaction to the Scarab.
Be honest: How many of you called out from school/work when this came out?
It was during spring break for us. But that first night was looooong indeed.
My dumbass thought you meant about the video, not the actual game lol
I believe it was called "Halotitus"
For Halo 2, my little brother pre-ordered it from GameStop. We stayed home and ran through the whole thing, co-op mode. Amazing. 😁
I was too poor to afford an Xbox. Didn't get one until early 2005.
ODST when?
I would love to see Wools have a go at the Splinter Cell trilogy, or just MGS1 - 3...
Bruh him using the shotgun for enemies at med/long range is driving me nuts.
This is one of those times where I can't help but be hyped for Woolie being introduced to some cool ass junk like the Arbiter for the first time. Welcome to Errf indeed.
"this is not your grave but you are welcome in it"
Halo 2 is the most important game I ever played.
That "invite all" button was so powerful
Set up a free for all custom game on Lockout where everyone spawns with a shotgun and a random secondary and just see who shows up lol
"That, or you could hide behind me."
Subtle LASO gameplay tip from Johnson.
I see Woolie is continuing the tradition of the Sniper Shotgun.
Amazing. Never been so excited for an H2 playthrough.
Played this campaign so many times
I remember Dual Wielding confusing me for a few days because I'm left handed.
My favorite part for you Woolie, if you haven't read that book yet in the first terminal here (The Cole Protocol) is the reaction from the elites after the spartan left. They're like WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT. It's so hilarious to me but it makes sense.
This many FPS games in, I don’t think Woolie is ever going to use the shotgun properly. Just take the gun away from him until he learns what a CLOSE QUARTERS WEAPON actually means.
Please.
Are we here to start finishing the fight?
Well, they already finished starting the fight.
football killer Madden always fight to the finish

Hearing Woolie mark out over Halo 2 fills me with an indescribable amount of joy!
i love the backstory of the bomb scene is just them cutting a level in the best way possible.
Heroic? Fantastic. Now you gonna feel how the ganmes were meant to be played.
26:51 - 28:32 Did he never notice the left gun was empty?
34:50 - Trademark Woolie Shotgun Range
I've already watched this on twitch twice, and I'm back for more. Thank you Woolie man.
Watching woolie shoot that shotgun from battle rifle range is frustrating.
