Alan Watts was my first teacher. I was at a very low point in my life. A friend of mine gave me a bag of mushrooms. Never taken mushrooms before this day. I just wanted to escape reality, so I ate the whole bag. It turned out to be 7 grams. Instead of escaping reality, I went deeeep into it. It felt like I was downloading all the knowledge of the universe, only it was too much too fast to grasp it all. But the gist of what the mushrooms told me was that I was everything. I didn't know what that meant at the time. The next day, the universe put Alan Watts in my youtube recommendations. He started to speak about Eastern philosophy. And he was explaining my experience in the most beautiful, poetic way I could ever imagine.

That's an amazing experience, brother. We are all connected on a higher level, but the only way to find out is through ego death and tripping. I once took mushrooms while thinking of my ex, and this video popped up. Life is sure strange once you let go of control. It tends to feel like you're dreaming.

Yes, but to obtain that awareness, one must go through stages of true, discipline to a daily spiritual process, amongst other things, which is ironic bc, once you reach the plateau of those efforts, you realize it was all right there in the first place. Always has been.

Heard a small 4 mins of how life is more important with oneself in it and it saved my life and allowed me to have the strength to climb out of that hole. Allowing me to watch my oldest son who will be 8 this year and i can say in Aug I’ll be 7 years clean!

Around 15 years ago I discovered Alan's lectures. The only way I've ever been able to explain his impact in simplicity is that Alan Watts has made me think the most interesting thoughts I've ever had. I met an old friend of his name Gerry and her Dog Karmalita in SF area , sweetest lady. She gave my friend & I a ride while we're hitch hiking on our backpacking trip. She told us a lot about Him, the wild side, the friendly side, and everything in-between. Ever since my discovery, I truly believe I've never seen the world, my life, or energy in the same way again. I found Alan's work when I was in a dark place in life and it helped pull me out and here I am 15 years later going through something similar as the past and what decided to pop up today... a beautiful lecture from the man himself. Thank you Alan I wish I could personally thank you for your life's devotion to enlighten the world, as still to this very day your impact has grown larger than you may ever had imagined. Thank you Alan 🙏

You actually hitch-hiked fifteen years ago? It was somewhere around that time that I saw a small group hitching at an onramp, I couldn't believe it. His thinking makes so much sense, but I worry that his very honest depiction of what most people are like will make me into a fatalist--a person too afraid to change or affect society because to challenge the senseless will always fail.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Its not something that is permanent or a constant sadly and hate can unfortunately sneak back in especially in this "new normal" i need to 're centre' myself they call it.. It seems like once attained it would be easy and its easy to remember what you know is true but even though we sometimes will react still.. Its ok though you never forget the truth so you are able to re centre yourself and if my preferred sacrament was still available id be able to do that much easier so i guess its a sign to train my unassisted meditation up that would be understandable ✌❤️

One of the most enlightened people of his time, and I believe most of us won’t ever fully grasp or experience what true words of wisdom he has said throughout his life. It’s one thing to hear it and understand it. It’s an entirely different thing to go through it and live it and truly understand the meaning behind the words.
I believe he is one of THE modern philosophers of our time and still isn’t fully understood or appreciated to this day, I hope his teachings/experiences continue to help those that come after us and not disappear quietly into the night. With how over saturated our media has become on the internet with an over abundance with garbage we fill our heads and time with , he is a gem among the rubble for those who come across him. I hope others who listen and hear him wake up and live their lives.

Amazed at how well he could work through and express the ocean of knowledge in his head. Hardly ever a stumble. Just flows from one sentence to another, reciting tons of insights he's had or learned. As if he could talk forever and never run out of worthy things to say.

My mentor, in our Hopi Tewa culture, we are taught to listen and respect and learn as much as we can from all our elders. All elders no matter who they are really. Makes me wonder who their parents were and how their childhood was. The grand design of human beings are extraordinary and extremely sacred and very important to our people. Especially the women in our lives in our tribe and throughout the world.

@@commenteroftruth9790 The stories are very interesting and important for everyone to learn and cherish and are passed down from generation to generation. Some of the stories are so beautiful still while others are very scary and extremely difficult and too powerful to understand and there are others that are not to be talked about. Rituals are extremely sacred and are practiced for centuries for many reasons, not only for our Hopi Tewa people but, for the entire human race and our MOTHER EARTH. Social dances ,men's and women's own separate ceremonies and also together in so many different ways. But one of the most important thing is the planting of our four primary colors of ancient Hopi corn which are White, Red. Yellow and Blue.

Reality is a creative process (jmho), I believe that our magical universe is a "non~judgemental, forever evolving, being of awesomeness", and that it is our minds, eyes, and ears that give beauty to it. Consciousness is "the spark of life"....the "power" that "drives" everything (jmho). I love him...and some people tell me about his problems with alcohol....but I believe that he sees the world....and how the world can be...and has inner struggles with that (I often have the same feelings). Thank you for keeping him alive, and very best wishes to all the other beautiful spirits out there....may you all live a life of beauty and wonder 🙏

The first time I was exposed to Alan Watts was 1967. I am 68. Every once in a while, I find myself needing to go back to listen yet again so I can remind myself that I truly belong here, because I am living with so many that either are living only for their life after death, or are making all of our deaths more probable due to their own blind greed, or both. I wonder sometimes how many endless numbers of worlds in this universe have already died from their own collective madness.
I wonder if there ever will be a time when we can all say that we all belong here, and, still in our stupidity and our ignorance, can say that we permit everyone else to say the same as well.

It's too bad he wasn't fully appreciated until now, with the advent of the internet.
It seems there's a progressive sadness that comes out in his later lectures. I wish I could have been in his circle to know what his state of mind was like just before he passed.
There's an odd familiarity, or as Alan would say, hintergedanken, way way back.
Thank you Mark, for your work in disseminating your father's message.

I meet in this new generation mostly, overwhelmingly, young adults who think that if they understand the meaning or definition of an idea, then they've "got it". Very sad, very sad. Like myself, they may discover, too late, that life only begins there but we slowly fill in the idea with our own and unique experiences which deepen the idea, the foremost ideas such as our ego, the transiency of everything, and that society is insanity. Alan Watts gives depth to ideas so if you are listening to him you may not think you know, and if you think you know, opportunities are squandered.
