Prediction: Josh Pate will be a guest picker in 2026. That way you'll have to hold off on your picks till Saturday morning 😂. I think the guest picker thing that they started a while back is what basically takes over for Corso's head gear picks. Corso will be missed!
The Lee Corso headgear picks were a big part of my childhood and I, a 31 year old man am not ashamed to say that watching the last one almost made me tear up a little bit
@mrjack8849pat is the one who makes Saban open up and giving kids hundreds of thousands of dollars for kicks is pretty cool but ya we can do without him
He is a bit awkward, but he seems to be loosening up. He has a coaches brain and it would be lovely to get inside a head like that. I hope over the next few seasons he becomes more comfortable. I mean what do we expect. He in no way is used to being in the spotlight in this capacity. I am an Oregon fan. I could care less about Bama 😂, but I think he will get there.
Gameday on campus came about because of the enormity of the Notre Dame/Florida State game in 1993. It was #1 vs #2 and billed as the Game of the Century. In fact, that game was so huge, it is what led to ND getting a contract for home games with NBC. NBC wanted to televise that game so badly, they drew up the contract the year before. Gameday wanted in on the action that day and moved their telecast to the ND campus. The game turned into such a thriller that ESPN turned on-campus broadcasts into a regular thing.
Been watching gameday since the ND and FSU game in '93. Corso was the heart and soul of the show! I miss Chris Fowler being on the show but definite upgrade bringing on Pat!
Ever since I can remember iv watched college gameday.. I could be cleaning the house.. but gameday is on…it just a thing during the fall… it gets you ready for a day full of football…
Your description of the tear down of the set reminds me of when I helped at a festival. They had call out of tearing down the stage and equipment to make sure there were out of there by dawn. If not, they had to pay additional rent. I never thought that would be so organized. Especially with how long the setup takes.
I live in Sweden now. I put it on every Saturday. Starts at 3pm out here. My family and friends don’t get it. But I had one of my friends sit down and watch it with me over a season. At the end of the season he asked. ”So it’s over, we have to wait till next year?” When I said yes, I saw the disappointment in his eyes. He also thinks he could win the money on the field goal kick. He was a very good soccer player for a club team out here. But I told him it is not as easy as it seems. 😂
Well I guess I'll weigh in on this too. Lee Corso made college game day for sure. I hate to see him get old and have to retire. I too thought Pat McAfee was too over the top. But I come to realize that I think his heart's in the right place and I see how Nick Saban has taken a liking to him. Saban seems like a guy who wouldn't tolerate that me me me attitude if he didn't think he was sincere. So I take a little lead from Saban. And I also realized that he's going to appeal to younger people more than people my age. But hey the dude gives away money every Saturday out of his own pocket. And he really pushes the edge a little bit which I like.
Been watching since the 90s and still love it. Of course pat is no Lee but I still enjoy watching him and especially saban. Also love pats kicking contest, even my wife liked it too.
I definitely do not watch for the football analysis, but it’s entertaining and the promos for the games get me fired up! Plus, my wife even likes it and you gotta take what the defense gives you sometimes.
college gameday was perfect pre Covid, they visited a variety of schools in different conferences which made me feel like I was actually exploring the whole landscape of CFB and the intricacies of the different places. I can absolutely get behind the new formats of the show, I actually like the lineup, what ruined it for me on multiple occasions though is that they stay at the same places, I know they are highly ranked matchups, but I don't care to see just another time hosted in Tuscaloosa, Athens, etc. I want more representation than almost exclusively SEC & Big10 plus maybe a bit of ACC and B12. The best episodes are those where they go to places they aren't often that are just rocking with energy, like JMU, Montana State, Jackson State, App State, Memphis, South Dakota, North Dakota, WSU. Those are some of the all time shows. And recently those shows don't happen anymore. There are still some col ones like Vandy, TTU, Pitt, Utah, Cal or South Carolina, but the majority of shows has just become repetetive. It's the same places, the same teams represented and the same conferences involved. I'm still watching the show when they are at an interesting place, because the show still is great in itself, but I couldn't care less to see the same teams represented for the 5th or 6th time in a span of 2 years just in the regular season.
Used to watch every minute every Saturday but now days maybe just a couple minutes a year. And no it's not because of the personalities, it's called real life caught with parent responsibilities. Unforgettable memories
I’m usually working Saturday mornings and off in the afternoon for the games so I miss it a lot, it’s always streaming in my office but I only catch a few minutes. If I’m off, it’s game on and my two boys are just as diehard about it
Corso was the heart of CGD. McAfee is there for views, he can't hold a candle and is acerbic. The show was at its best in the 00s and early 10s. That said, a CFB Saturday isn't the same without the show. You watch it and there's nearly the same hype and buzz that you get actually tailgating. When it's done and the games start you feel the day downshift in gear. The "what replaces it?" - Big Noon Kickoff. Not quite the same energy but still brings it. As to the teardown, yeah. Have seen it often with BNK who likes to set up where we always tailgated and walk by on the way out. We've left early due to blowouts by the opposing team and it is something just how fast they take down these huge sets and by the 4th quarter it's gone and just an empty space with random trash remains.
I love the show and mainly listen on podcast, but when I do watch I find it disengaging when the camera angle changes but the eye contact from the commish doesn't follow.
Watching Lee Corso was great, especially since he was old school unfiltered. Pat McAfee's addition is a huge negative. Game Day has been getting bloated these past several years, but they really jumped the shark for me when they started drooling over Colorado. I don't watch them now unless 1) they're at a school I like, and/or 2) it's the last 5 minutes where I watch their picks.
I watch gameday every weekend during football season. My only complaint is it has become a little trashy from some of the language. Wish they'd clean it up for the kids that watch too
Game Day used to be must-see TV. Back in the day. Before every game became available to watch or stream, or get the stats and highlights of after. Now it's a gimmicky broadcast that doesn't introduce anything new or previously unknown and leads into the football programming. Fun as a warm-up act but I usually don't waste the time anymore.
Pat Macafee is the worst thing to happen to the show. He is a WWE clown. All he does is make the most obvious point while barking and then doing a sideshow. Needs more Saban characters and less Macaffee.
Exactly. I feel like he is a pro football guy and not a college football guy, but he got on the show to try and expand his fan base to college football people. He just feels a little too crazy and out of place compared to the somewhat fun but also somewhat intellectual college football show that it always has been.
He translates better in person. I went to the taping for the Washington vs Oregon game in 2023 and he definitely helped boost the energy since it started at 6am local time while it was raining
The 00s to the 10s were the best time for the show. Like how College Football Final was the best with Mark May and Lou Holtz. Their vibe made that show and it has been almost unwatchable since.
The best thing that happened to Gameday was Corso's exodus. For those offended, here are the facts: 1) His presence on the show decreased significantly over the years where he would open the show, return briefly in the middle, and close out with his picks. What value did he add? 2) When he did speak in the last few years, he stumbled over his words and was sometimes incomprehensible. He often appeared confused. 3) He was unable to travel on occasion, particularly to west coast games, presumably for health reasons. Bottom line, he stuck around much longer than he should have, and no one at ESPN had the courage to tell him it's time to go. His exit should have been easy just after Pat M.. joined the show and brought his natural enthusiasm.
The truth is ESPN and everybody who associates with them is bought and paid for and it's getting harder to watch Just give me football without all the political agendas being pushed through agents in conferences
Like many I used to love gameday. But I don't watch it as much anymore. For one it's too long. Too much fluff. I like most of the guys. Saban is ok. Now for my personal taste I do not like pat Mcafee at all or his style. Nothing against the man just for me he is turn off At most I watch the last 10 min for the picks.
SEC bias is so obvious on ESPN. They have a monopoly on the playoff. Can’t wait for the day when FOX, CBS and other networks can get their shares. Until then I’ll stick with FOX.
It's tough, because the show used to be a place where the hosts could give us insight or information we couldn't get elsewhere, but now anything they say has either already been said or isn't as insightful as Josh Pate, or the Film Guy, or wherever else you get college football content on RUclips. The segway to the gameday experience is there, but the ball knowledge has faded.
*Gameday is iconic, watch it every Fall Saturday* *However* .... McAfee is trying too hard, Saban has the charisma of a wet noodle, the show is very much in decline.
Exhibit A in the scam that is the absolute corruption of college football. Oh sure it's all great if you are one of the cho$en ones. Money talks the once greatest sport ever walks.
College Gameday was great during corso era but recently Gameday has gone south since its introduction of sec commissioner Greg Sankey on the show to prop up is conference. Woke espn total SEC biased ruined the experience
Hold your horses Josh. College Gameday hasn’t become crap but saying it’s anywhere close to Corso in his prime days is a massive stretch. It’s good but it’s no where close to Corso in his prime days.
@RobertTarmac I'm not talking about the later Corso. Although he did earn the honor of leaving when he wanted to. It was not good tv I'll admit in the end but his early work was so exceptional he deserves to do it how ever he wanted.
McAfee makes it unbearable to watch. I feel like I'm being hyped up for a WWF match. He is nothing more than a shock jock, who couldn't make it in the NFL as a punter, so he's trying to relive his glory days at college. I used to make it a point to watch every Saturday, but now I just can't give two shits about it. Plus, it was a really bad look by ESPN to roll out Lee Corso every week, who had problems reading his own notes and looking like he has dementia. Most of the time, Herbstreet had to hold his hand the whole segment to keep him from looking any sadder than it already was
Pat McAfee is the future of Gameday for the next generation or even generations. He brings so much amazing energy. Other hosts bring more energy themselves to match him, which is fantastic. Saban was also an absolutely amazing addition. They have some great talent on there right now.
Conservative men over 40 in the South love to hate on College Gameday because it now has McCaffee who is a free, wild spirit.... but they awlays watch it... always judge others by their actions, not their words.
Love your show, but I have to disagree with some of what you said. College Gameday was absolutely one of my favorite parts of college football season. Pat McAfee has made it unwatchable. He tries to make every show all about himself. In my opinion, he acts like an absolute idiot. He is a complete and total "me monster" and they'd do themselves a favor to lose him from the cast. Corso will be greatly missed!
Love ya Josh but I think u are talking about what College Game Day used to be. Gotten better with Pat there but they torpedoed it with Disney. Not what it was 15 years ago.
Keep the show rolling - SUBSCRIBE to the channel and LIKE the video! - JP
JP, what would your All-Time College Football Head Coach Mount Rushmore be? -Micah from Alabama.
It’s the best on Saturday morning waking up and watching game day while eating breakfast
Yeah. I feel like it's Saturday Morning Cartoons for adults.
Ya, especially if you cook a nice big breakfast. 😋
Best feeling in the world.
I’m 50 years old and I watch it every Saturday
One of the best things to happen to college football
Roll Tide
Saban was an outstanding addition. Regardless of what you may think of the man as a coach at Alabama, he is great on CGD.
indeed
I agree. But, IMO, they need to lose Pat McAfee.
@Waitaminit-wo5er Yea, I could do without McAfee. Saban is perfect though.
@mrjack8849pat is the one who makes Saban open up and giving kids hundreds of thousands of dollars for kicks is pretty cool but ya we can do without him

both pretty much nothing since LOL
@RT22-pb2pp lolol 3 national championships after that game for FSU, but yeah, nothing.
@VHS-TheStuff 3 beating who, nobody crap teams and name the 3 titles and yrs is bs
I’m 38 y/o its my favorite show in all of TV.. definitely the best show on ESPN hands down
Every Saturday during the season, I wake up with Gameday.
My first in-person Gameday was at the Alabama Vandy game in October. It was surreal; every college football fan needs to go at least once.
It is a bucket list thing
Been watching gameday since the ND and FSU game in '93. Corso was the heart and soul of the show! I miss Chris Fowler being on the show but definite upgrade bringing on Pat!
Ever since I can remember iv watched college gameday.. I could be cleaning the house.. but gameday is on…it just a thing during the fall… it gets you ready for a day full of football…

I turn 60 year and have seen virtually every Gameday since day one! It is college football.
Impressive! What do you think about the recent-ish additions of Pat & Saban? I think both are so perfect for the show 💜
I am curious your thoughts on what it is today versus where it has been.
I live in Sweden now. I put it on every Saturday. Starts at 3pm out here. My family and friends don’t get it. But I had one of my friends sit down and watch it with me over a season. Im here for the alien College football playoff 2056
A Rece Davis intro to CGD at 9am ET is what gets me through the week and lets me know I made it
Well I guess I'll weigh in on this too. Lee Corso made college game day for sure. I hate to see him get old and have to retire. I too thought Pat McAfee was too over the top. I’m 51 and still get up early to watch it.
33 and gameday is on every saturday morning since I was young lol
Been watching since the 90s and still love it. Of course pat is no Lee but I still enjoy watching him and especially saban. Also love pats kicking contest, even my wife liked it too.
Dude back in 1999’s early 2000’s was ridiculous
Only ESPN product that matched this show was Sunday Night Baseball with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan
College Gameday is the best show on television EVER! It's because College Football and Tailgating are the most American things in the world. EVER!
While I do appreciate CGD...I watch SEC Nation first and foremost. I love that show!
I definitely do not watch for the football analysis, but it’s entertaining and the promos for the games get me fired up! Plus, my wife even likes it and you gotta take what the defense gives you sometimes.
Can we talk about how we watch more commercials than actual football or what it's unwatchable
Josh we need you on College Gameday
Went to game day in 1995 in Knoxville
I’m 47, I have been watching since it was a half hour studio show hosted by Beno Cook…
college gameday was perfect pre Covid, they visited a variety of schools in different conferences which made me feel like I was actually exploring the whole landscape of CFB and the intricacies of the different places. Heck, I'm 57 and look at College Game Day as being synonymous with Football Saturdays...
Used to watch every minute every Saturday but now days maybe just a couple minutes a year. And no it's not because of the personalities, it's called real life caught with parent responsibilities. Unforgettable memories
I know that feeling
@shi@shinineagle23 plus it just not the same.
I’m usually working Saturday mornings and off in the afternoon for the games so I miss it a lot, it’s always streaming in my office but I only catch a few minutes. If I’m off, it’s game on and my two boys are just as diehard about it
Is there any way to cut off the little ad things in the bottom left that stay after the ad now? Other than getting RUclips premium obviously
Corso was the heart of CGD. McAfee is there for views, he can't hold a candle and is acerbic. The show was at its best in the 00s and early 10s.

It was headed downhill, but ESPN said, wait, we can make it worse...let's add Pat McAfee. I haven't watched it in years. Fox all the way now.
Facts!
I love it
Watching Lee Corso was great, especially since he was old school unfiltered. Pat McAfee's addition is a huge negative. Agree 100%
Truth!!! ✌️
Game Day used to be must-see TV. Back in the day. Before every game became available to watch or stream, or get the stats and highlights of after. Couldn't agree more!! Pat McAfee has RUINED the show.
He translates better in person. I went to the taping for the Washington vs Oregon game in 2023 and he definitely helped boost the energy since it started at 6am local time while it was raining
WHOA! I disagree, the show is not better than it's ever been....C'mon man! Fowler, herb, corso 10 years ago, doesn't get any better.
I agree. I still watch, but it seems to have lost what it once had. The chemistry with the old crew was so good.
The 00s to the 10s were the best time for the show. Like how College Football Final was the best with Mark May and Lou Holtz. Their vibe made that show and it has been almost unwatchable since.
Gonna be tough with out coach
i prefer big noon kick-off on fox
36, not too shabby
The best thing that happened to Gameday was Corso's exodus. Pat macafee has made it unwatchable. Saban is great and that’s coming from a vol
Agree!!
It's campi
Only one sports show better: NBA on TNT. Still love Game Day though.
“Remove it and what takes its place?”
Uh……Big Noon.
Fox tries too hard - serious cringe factor. ESPN is still the standard, McAfee and the Cackler, et al.
It’s never as good as it used to be, no matter what it is. Nostalgia is a helluva drug.
@poolhall9632 no Lee courso… it’s never gonna be as good. No more headgear pick em. Getting saban was great, but it’s not gonna be like it was
@poolhall9632he’s saying nostalgia clouds judgement, nothing is better than our perceived memories. Airhead
So true. It was “always better in the old days.” I’m a baseball fan, old-timer baseball fans are the worst.
Big Noon Saturday takes it's place. It's already more entertaining, gameday takes itself way too seriously these days
Big noon on fox is a wannabe college gameday show
I've not once watched that show in full
The truth is ESPN and everybody who associates with them is bought and paid for and it's getting harder to watch
Just give me football without all the political agendas being pushed through agents in conferences
College Football Saturdays start with Gameday. Period. Best show ever.
The field goal kicks, Pat and Saban saved the show. It was getting boring.
Pate gonna go thru his Jason Whitlock stage? The truth about.....
Like many I used to love gameday. But I don't watch it as much anymore. For one it's too long. Too much fluff.
I like most of the guys. Saban is ok. Now for my personal taste I do not like pat Mcafee at all or his style. Nothing against the man just for me he is turn off
At most I watch the last 10 min for the picks.
McAfee and Saban have ruined the show. SEC Nation is much better.
SEC bias is so obvious on ESPN. They have a monopoly on the playoff. Can’t wait for the day when FOX, CBS and other networks can get their shares. Until then I’ll stick with FOX.
McAfee trying to act like he is IN college and Dez cackling make it intolerable. Herbie crying in 2020 was rich as well.
Pat and Saban are the show.
Justice for Rece Davis
They are so new, they can't be the show for me.
You can get the same ball knowledge Nick Saban can give anywhere else??
I loved GameDay until they put Pat McAfee on there, the stupid is aggravating. He should be on a Pee Wee Herman show or something.
I much rather watch SEC Nation these days
*Gameday is iconic, watch it every Fall Saturday*
*However* .... McAfee is trying too hard, Saban has the charisma of a wet noodle, the show is very much in decline.
Saban is great imo, but obviously the show won’t be the same w/o Lee
fox big noon kickoff is a better show in my opinion ... i like gameday, but unless they are at my school of choice i prefer big noon.
Same here until Portnoy was added, dragging FBN down.

It stopped being good a long time ago I don’t even waste my time watching anymore
You lost me here Josh. CGD was once great but has been in decline for 10+ years. IMO you are throwing a bone to the mothership on this take.
Pat thinks he's entertaining, and Dez just giggles at everything. Hard to watch!
Without corso, it’s lame.
Corporate schlop
Spoken like someone who has ties with ESPN. In no universe is Gameday on the same level with McAfee that it was with prime Corso.
lol I disagree
Emotional commenter discovers subjectivity and is so befuddled at the concept he calls bias. More at 11
Conservative men over 40 in the South love to hate on College Gameday because it now has McCaffee who is a free, wild spirit.... but they awlays watch it... always judge others by their actions, not their words.
It was struggling there for a bit until they brought Pat on. He rejuvenated it.
It’s pretty corny
Pat kinda saved gameday imo
Love your show, but I have to disagree with some of what you said. College Gameday was absolutely one of my favorite parts of college football season. Pat McAfee has made it unwatchable. He tries to make every show all about himself. In my opinion, he acts like an absolute idiot. He is a complete and total "me monster" and they'd do themselves a favor to lose him from the cast. Corso will be greatly missed!
Dez cackling because someone took a breath is nails on a chalkboard for me.
Preach, 1000% true.
@ksmalls7017he literally laughs at everything
McAfee never got the memo that his frat days are over
@ksmalls7017 glad to know I'm not an old crab!
Love ya Josh but I think u are talking about what College Game Day used to be. Gotten better with Pat there but they torpedoed it with Disney. Not what it was 15 years ago.
