I'm from the city of Al Baha We are farmers and our rural and rainy throughout the year, and the tribes of Saudi Arabia's oldest tribe dating back to two thousand years old and I love to hear this song and I do not Oalk what to say where, but I love her and hello to the patio here Tourism
I'm a vet and drink I'm drinking wild turkey as I type and do to numb the pain and not only from war but from search and rescue I've had comrades die in my arms and have had kids die in the same arms I've been to hell and back I only drink but 4 to 5 times a year and the pain I feel from the tornado outbreak from 2013 I am drinking a lot and I am happy my wife holds me at night and says she loves me even with the fact I do drink to numb some pain but after finding out I have lupus has me at the lowest point in my life it hurt but for my wife to say she loves me and wants more kids makes me happy as do I but at the same time I have family that hurts me and hates me I love my wife and kids and every day I live with demons but no one sees any one that hurts like me please talk to me yes I'm drinking whiskey right now too numb my pain but know you are not alone at and would love to talk with people like myself and others that struggle like me so we can help one another but I do drink 6 times a year to numb what I've been through help is there just talk with me and I can help you and try and get you back to your normal life SEMPER FI MARINES and anyone in need of help
Really nice version. I had no idea ocms did it. I like some of the lyrical differences from ry cooder's version but its a shame they omitted the last verse "and if he feels that all is lost and he is falling, try to place that poor mans feet on solid ground. Just remember, he's some mother's precious darlin'. Always lift him up and never knock him down". Gets me every time
Roozel In case you didn't look up the author of the song, he waa talented blind singer from applachia named Blind Alfred Reed, who was also a part-time minister. Blind Alfred Reed never really made a lot of money, and it is thought he died of starvation some years ago. I;m glad the OCMC rescued this song, which is beautiful and instructive, and I think of Alfred Reed every time I hear it. I heard the medicine show sing it on Prairie Home Companion and went out and found the CD.
I've heard of him before from "How can a poor man stand such times and live?" (which Ry cooder does a fantastic cover on an unreleased performance). Thanks for reminding me of him. Gonna check out all his songs.
I went to see OCMS live at Islington London 2007 with a few friends and i never even heard of them before. But they played this song and it was amazing!. never forget
Man this song hits home bipolar 1 ptsd and depression I smoke weed and eat edibles all day to keep my mind from rushing or I'll have flashbacks and just go off for no reason it's a hard life and it has got the best of me many times I have hung myself od slit my wrist but I'm still here thanks to my moma
saw the boys with Dave Rawlings Machine at DelFest, and Gillian played some banjo. one of the most incredible things i've ever witnessed. truly, purely, lovely.
Nice try rich guy. I've worked for a lot of rich people, they're are not as good as poor or working class people. I've only been cheated by the rich because they have a sense of entitlement and know they can get away with it. A working person has never cheated me. Country music is often about class warfare or economic inequality. I'm curious, where do you find the rich volunteering?
@Becky83436 please don't turn such a great song into class warfare. The rich account for a very large amount of charity and volunteer work. The rich are no greater than the poor. We all owe it to our country to be good neighbors and look out for each other.
