Dimitsana is amphitheatrically built overlooking the Lucio river and its valley. It is surrounded by mountain peaks with lush pine forests that in winter are snowy. Some of its most famous sights are the six remaining legendary gunpowder mills that produced gunpowder for the Revolutionary War, the Monasteries of the Philosopher and the Holy Forerunner, the archeological site of Gortyna and the houses of the heroes of the Greek Revolution.
