One of my favorite little parts in this episode. We see the first glimpse of Brian being protective of Justin. When Brian full on steps out of the jeep to threaten a kid who was making fun of Justin.
just discovered this through tumblr! my favorite show of ALL TIME. going to binge all the episodes youve got up so far :) you are so right about the music. a friend of mine is watching the series for the first time and im telling him.... this scene should have had this song. one of the biggest atrocities to me is that new order's true faith was replaced in the election street party scene at the end of 3.14. gotta say i am so glad you mentioned hey todd hows it going!!! its one of my favorite lil easter eggs :)
@@samonthecoast That’s awesome, let me know what you think! :) Definitely, it’s just not the same without the original music (Let’s Hear It for The Boy, Save the Last Dance for Me, etc. so many key song moments changed), and True Faith was definitely an awful one to change, such a downgrade. Haha I love hey Todd how’s it going too, I love that it keeps popping up 😂
Thank you! :) Yeah it would be really interesting to see how differently it would have been viewed/analyzed at the time it was airing compared to now too!
all of this was so well put! when it comes to qaf i mostly just read fics and look at gifs, so i don't see the commentary about the show that's often on fandom tumblr. watching your analysis was so nice because between me not being in that part of the fandom, the fact that i've only watched the show once (i'm not that into rewatching shows), and also since i binged all five seasons in less than a week, i've missed out on a lot of meta and actually thinking about everything that goes on. when you were talking about how brian said that he wanted justin to remember this first time, you said that maybe you were just looking too much into it, but i really don't think you were! i've never liked that dialogue and thought brian sounded a bit like an asshole and full of himself. but your explanation of it really made a lot of sense to me and made me actually like that scene. i'm looking forward to the rest of your qaf break downs! are you planning on doing every single episode?
Thank you so much for this, this was so nice to hear and I'm really glad you liked it (and didn't think I over-analyzed too much!) :) And yep, I'll be doing one for every episode!
You are doing a great job. I liked the analysis very much. You experience the episode again more intensely. I hope the review of episode 2 will follow soon. Greetings from Germany.
Ah ha, that explains the weird copy-cat music that I noticed upon my recent rewatch! Also when Michael says "at least he wanted me" the emphasis was on "me" which made me think that he was used to being ignored by men when Brian was around. ...Also, Brian and Michael's involvement with their children was interesting. The only lesbian couple I knew who had a friend donate the sperm insisted that he never be called the father always just the donor and he had no parental responsibility or rights and he agreed to that from the start.
Ooh yeah good point! And yeah definitely an interesting way of doing it - I think a lot of the problems stemmed from not having clear expectations set from all parties from the beginning
I think the reason that he didn’t describe what sort of scene was at Babylon was because you need a members card to get in. I think Justin only gets into Babylon when Vic gives him his card in like the 5th episode. I think Michael was trying to rationalize to Emmett (and himself) why he didn’t hook up with that guy. Michael didn’t really seem into him and wanted out of there so he took the first chance when Brian called him. I think in the series he does this a lot (especially in the first season), he blames Brian for “ruining” things when it was all Michael’s choice.
Wow... This feels like having Ancient History Class on LGBT+ portrayal on American PayTV. I was just a kid when that Pilot Episode made it into the Larry King Show with a huge scandal because of the age difference between the lead characters, and arguing that JUSTIN was a minor (16 years old), something the creators wanted to thematize as well for the general audience. Well... this should be good for the new LGBT+ generations, to know about the many people who help pave the way for us to live in a much free and tolerant world. Cheers...!
It’s so crazy the difference between the reaction of the general public at the time compared to what it would be now! Such a scandal at the time, something people watching for the first time today might not realize. You’re right, it’s good to look back and see all the things people did to make things better for us today! :)
The sound-alike songs made for streaming are so annoying. So many platforms are doing this now. Drives me nuts. Also i hated the theme song at first but didnt know i would miss it until s4 completely changed it
Agree, very annoying, I don't know who thought of the sound-alike thing but it's been a terrible idea. I actually didn't even hear/see the first theme song the first time I watched the show because the downloads I had the person who uploaded them had cut out the theme song every time for the first three seasons 😂 so I didn't see it until I rewatched
I never liked Lindsay, Michael, or Melanie. It wasn't until I started reading QAF fanfiction that I found out how many others did not like them either. They called them out and karma was not nice. I really enjoyed reading them! I never liked Michael's mother either. She gave the worst advice on the planet.
For Brian it is 😂I think for the show it was mostly about the metaphor of it, but if I were in Michael's shoes at that moment there's no way I'd be getting up there 😂
I think I just meant that what he was mostly 'pursuing' throughout the show, like what he ultimately wanted to do and kept coming back to was being a traditional 'artist' and he just kind of fell into drawing the comic books. And how the comment about him wanting to be a cartoonist or computer animator, (along with his mom saying he wants to be an animator as well in 1x07), so Justin starts out saying that's what he wants to do in the beginning of the first season but then changes to wanting to be a traditional 'artist' in galleries etc. and then falls into the comics, the show kind of just forgot that that was kind of his first ambition? I don't know, maybe I also meant I wanted to see him be like an animator because that's not as represented in media 😂

Love hearing your take on things! Wish this could’ve been done in real time 20 years ago.
Thank you! :) Yeah it would be really interesting to see how differently it would have been viewed/analyzed at the time it was airing compared to now too!
Omg!! I love these reaction videos!! Fantastic. I love qaf…one of my favorite shows ever. 💖💖
Thank you so much!

I love that you mention the famous ugly naked guy painting, as I also thought the guy in the painting was ugly!
Yay haha at least someone else agrees!

Thank you so much! :)) Episode 2 is up now! (And thanks for watching 😊)

Both really great points! And you're right I think he does definitely blame Brian a lot for his own choices

You're right, Brian's suit is really ugly ...
Haha I know right?? At least someone agrees with me :D

There's definitely a lot of QAF fanfic out there that shows how some people feel about them haha, I didn't realize either until I started reading it 😂
Is it true friendship to encourage your friend to risk their life with you? 🧐
For Brian it is 😂I think for the show it was mostly about the metaphor of it, but if I were in Michael's shoes at that moment there's no way I'd be getting up there 😂
He wanted to be a cartoonist…..uh he draws comic books, how is that not exactly the same?

@tvtakes3638 yeah and the mention that the Yellow Submarine referenced as his favourite to rewatch - onscreen animation is what he wanted to do.
