I have been using YNAB since 2013, I was 21 years old and was only beginning with the concepts of financial freedom, honestly I purchased it so long ago I had to go through my archived emails to find the receipt. It has been the only budgeting style/tool that has worked for me with ADHD, of which I was unmedicated for most of that time. If you know anything about ADHD that is a big deal, us ADHD folk are great when it comes to creating plans, terrible when it comes to following them, add in compulsivity and inability to form positive habits and you have a recipe for financial disaster, debt, overspending, and poor choices. I won't lie and say that my budget is perfect, it's not, impulsivity often gets the best of me and I overspend in categories but the reason YNAB works over other methods is it has that flexibility, I can move things around, prioritise, de-prioritise, I am never stuck with a single option or plan, it works with me instead of attempting to control me. It helps to give me a level of perspective that at the very lease moderates my over spending and allows me enough control that so far in my 30s I have been able to avoid getting into debt, taking loans, or using payment plans entirely. Whenever a bill is due I can just pay it, whenever my phone, PC, or car breaks I already have the funds to repair/replace them, it has been a life changer and is worth every cent.
YAAAAYY!! YNAB's been the biggest game changer for me. Seriously, have no idea where I would be without it. Best of luck on your journey!! Come back here with any questions if ya have em! 🌻 Hannah
YAAAAY!! We've been very impatiently waiting too 😂 So glad YNAB Together has come to life and that YNAB is so much easier to share and use with the ones we love! 🥰 🌻 Hannah
Thank you for doing this feature we can finally have one account. Only improvement I can think of is as a manager I don't want to see all the member's budgets, only those we share.
Very easy: Groupadmin has a separate email and two of you each know a part of the password. Then both of you have separate accounts. Since no one has the group admin password completely you are good to go
This is an incredible new feature. I’m trying to convince my parents to hop on it. They’ve seen the progress I’ve made since joining YNAB, so hopefully that’s motivating for them.
This is awesome. I recently started using YNAB and we identified the feature gap. One week after you release it. Now that’s good product prioritization 😂
Trying to think how this will work for my mom. She's old school and is used to keeping track of spending via an accounting ledger. Me I'm not 100% YNAB compliant, but I make it work. But this will allow me to help my mom when needed based on her expenses. Thanks, will investigate this further. Also I continue to love your videos and the bloopers at the end. Don't change Hannah!
Hi, great feature. As far as I understand it, it does not yet support shared expenses (like Splitwise), right? It's not aimed for that If I understand correctly.
Yes, the group manager can remove anyone from the group whenever they like. Any budgets that are owned by that individual will go with them and they'll automatically start a 34-day trial with their own YNAB account. That will free up a slot for a new member as well. You can have up to 5 members (plus the group manager) at a time. ~BenB
Way to go YNAB! But I just come here to watch Hannah. I've tried the 34 day trial on my laptop, but I can't get rid of the boxes with instructions and information... they are in the way and it frustrates me so i gave up.
Hey, Denise. Be sure to go through the onboarding in the web app. There are just a few steps to go through and then you won't see any more help boxes like those. If you're still seeing them after going through the steps, reach out to our support team and we can take a look! 👀 ~BenB
Why does the manager have to see every budget? Is it to prevent sharing with friends? You can have the manager see the budget created without having them see every detail. This is great by the way. Was hoping shared subscription would be a thing
Yes, very good question! You're right, that feature is to prevent subscription sharing among strangers or people outside of close groups. We thought about this a lot, because we wanted to provide this as part of a regular subscription, but obviously we wanted to avoid too much lost revenue from people who are not tightly connected sharing a subscription. Because the group manager can see all budgets in the group, it's really only for groups that are close-knit enough that they are comfortable sharing financial information. That's why we were comfortable offering this at no additional cost. I'm sure some subscription-sharing will still happen, but it won't be as much of an issue compared to a streaming service, for example. ~BenB
I'm a little unclear on flags, can they be shared between budgets of connected accounts? It'd be awesome for both me and my partner to apply a shared flag to transactions, then report on transactions with that flag in both budgets.
The flags are customizable to each shared budget! So if you and your partner shared a Small Business budget, you could name the flags Tax-Deductible, Employee Expense, Travel Reimbursements, etc. But if you also shared a Household Expenses budget, you could customize those flags totally differently-John's Car, Avery's Car, To Be Reimbursed, etc. Does that help?? 🌻 Hannah
I'm pretty certain that the group manager can always see all of the group member's budgets. I think the idea here is that it will limit a netflix-type problem where people share their logins with their neighbours/acquaintances/third-cousins-twice-removed. I don't love that it's set up like this, but I can understand why they've done it this way.
Yep, I saw in the FAQ "All budgets... are always shared with you", but maybe as a future features members could make their budgets truly private. I know someone who *really* needs help but they've shunned all offers, primarily because they are afraid of sharing their finances, even when I tried to explain that I'd enjoy just talking about the method and we don't need to talk about numbers at all...
Howdy! While we don’t have any coupon codes or seasonal sales available, we do offer a discount for former YNAB 4 users and we have a special College Program for current students (with proof of enrollment). Link to the college program can be found here! www.ynab.com/college 🌻 Hannah
We may add more specific permission levels in the future if it becomes clear that's something a lot of folks need! This is the first iteration that lays the groundwork for all sorts of possibilities! ~BenB
Hmmm. A *portion* of the budget I don't believe we have the capability for yet, but you should absolutely drop that as a recommendation for our developers! You can do that at this link: youneedabudget.typeform.com/to/Pt6cek?typeform-source=docs.youneedabudget.com Otherwise, YNAB Together is a great way to share *full* budgets with loved ones. I have am unrelated question: are there known issues in syncing multiple android and apple devices and then syncing bank reconciliation? I've been having issues with my husband entering purchases that don't come across to my android. Then the bank syncs were incomplete and I had to hand reconcile it. Still faster than it used to take me, but worrisome.
Hmmmm... I'm not sure! This would be a great question for our customer support team because they know all the ins and outs of this stuff! You can reach out to them at www.ynab.com/help! 🌻 Hannah
Hi! This is a great feature indeed! How would it work for 2 people that already have YNAB subs and want to fuse together then? Can we still keep the budgets and merge the subscriptions?
You should be able to find your answer to this question in the "How to Join a Group" section! But the short answer is yes, you will keep your current budgets, and only the group manager will be charged for the subscription-the other group member will be refunded a prorated amount based on however many days they had left of their current subscription. If I wanted to add someone that already has YNAB, is there an option to transfer their current information and budget to the new account? I help my parents with their budget every month and it would be so much easier to just add her to my together account and we can just split the subscription

Looking good! 👍 Next step: Add the ability to have multiple managers and promote my partner to a co-manager, optionally with more granular permissions. Continuity is very important to us. We have worked hard to have all of our affairs structured so that it passes the "what if I got hit by a bus tomorrow" test. As much as possible, we want the surviving partner to be able to have as little as possible to worry about. I'd like it if we can both manage billing and have full admin control over the family budget. If the answer to the question is "Well, they better have access to the deceased person's login credential or email for a password reset." That's suboptimal. Setting up a support process where spouses submit marriage certificates and death certificates to gain access is a whole other mess you probably don't want to get into. It is also a chore that a grieving spouse shouldn't have to go through. Anyone who has lost a loved one and gone through the Executor process knows where I'm coming from when I talk about my motivation to have that transition be as easy as possible on my survivors.
Very good points! I highly recommend using a password manager with a process that allows partners to gain access to those necessary passwords after one person passes away or becomes disabled. It's not just YNAB - there are a whole bunch of accounts they need access to and a password manager is a great way to facilitate that! ~BenB
@@YNABofficial Yup, that's what we have done. It is a little more challenging with OTP/2FA. Even in this video you acknowledge sharing a login isn't an awesome solution. I still stand by my feature request to allow multiple managers per budget.
Hey Bre! The link to set up YNAB Together has to come to an email address, so the invitee won't be able to accept an invite to join a group without access to that email. If you have a teenager or parent who has never had an email address before, you can always set them up an email that they use solely for YNAB. 🌻 Hannah
@@fmoesch You can now have up to 6 people on one subscription. Does that mean that couples are discriminated against compared to families of four? It seems a slightly silly argument to make when the price of the subscription isn't changing at all. What would you have prefered, that they increase the price? I don't know how else they could have added this feature without completely screwing people over, or making a completely unsustainable business model.
Well, get yourself a family.🤷🏽♀️ It’s helping the folks that don’t want to share credentials or people seeing personal budgets with shared family members.
My preference would be the following: Features with added value for all paying users. If additional users need a tool, they should also pay for it and not let others pay for it. Development power costs, that's what I pay a subscription for. Not all features are always suitable for everyone, I realize that. But this isn't about a real feature, it's about usage by multiple people who don't pay for it. But yes, I see the benefit of the feature for people in a relationship. But for me this would have been solved more fairly with a separate plan.
@@YNABofficial - I have never given her more money than since she got a job. 😫 How does that happen? Every paycheck she refreshes her budget. 🤦🏽♀️ She’s getting the hard cut-off with her new new job.

A subscription with ynab together should be priced higher than one without it. There is no sense in making me pay for something I won't use.
Can group members opt to disallow viewing of their budget(s) by the group manager?
Good Morning! Any promotions for Ynab's annual subscription on Black Friday?
Howdy! While we don’t have any coupon codes or seasonal sales available, we do offer a discount for former YNAB 4 users and we have a special College Program for current students (with proof of enrollment).
Link to the college program can be found here!

This is really nice BUT we need a read-only option for someone to just be able to view the budget without editing it.
We may add more specific permission levels in the future if it becomes clear that's something a lot of folks need! This is the first iteration that lays the groundwork for all sorts of possibilities! ~BenB
I would like to share a portion of my budget with someone. I am guessing I cannot do that. So - request! :)
Hmmm. A *portion* of the budget I don't believe we have the capability for yet, but you should absolutely drop that as a recommendation for our developers! You can do that at this link:

Otherwise, YNAB Together is a great way to share *full* budgets with loved ones. You can learn more about that here:

I have am unrelated question: are there known issues in syncing multiple android and apple devices and then syncing bank reconciliation? I've been having issues with my husband entering purchases that don't come across to my android. Then the bank syncs were incomplete and I had to hand reconcile it. Still faster than it used to take me, but worrisome.
Hmmmm... I'm not sure! This would be a great question for our customer support team because they know all the ins and outs of this stuff! You can reach out to them at www.ynab.com/help!

Would have been very helpful when caring for my elderly parent.

Must auto upvote every hanna (hannah?) video. Now to see if I can get my mom on this train.
Hannah 😎 Although I did briefly consider legally changing it to Hanna when I changed my last name after our wedding-I just think it's so much prettier without the h on the end! But it probably would've gotten misspelled for the rest of my life that way. 😂

If I wanted to add someone that already has YNAB, is there an option to transfer their current information and budget to the new account? I help my parents with their budget every month and it would be so much easier to just add her to my together account and we can just split the subscription
Hey Shelby! You can can find all the details on adding an existing YNAB user to your YNAB Together group from this help doc! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Looking good! 👍
Next step: Add the ability to have multiple managers and promote my partner to a co-manager, optionally with more granular permissions.
Can you invite or ad someone who doesn't have an email address?
Hey Bre! The link to set up YNAB Together has to come to an email address, so the invitee won't be able to accept an invite to join a group without access to that email. If you have a teenager or parent who has never had an email address before, you can always set them up an email that they use solely for YNAB.

Unbelievable!!!
In the software and subscription world, singles are often price discriminated against. Now this is also the case with YNAB.
How so? The price isn't changing at all.
@@samanthathomas1825 2 persons = 1 subscription. 1 person = 1 subscription. That is a difference calculated down per person😎
Yay! Love this. Now if my teen daughter would just use it so she manages her money better. 🫤
Right?! Maybe you could give her a little "sign on" bonus 😅

@@YNABofficial - I have never given her more money than since she got a job. 😫 How does that happen? Every paycheck she refreshes her budget. 🤦🏽♀️ She’s getting the hard cut-off with her new new job.
Really?!?! Honestly, I get it! I NEVER went into consumer debt... *until* I got my first salary. I was making more money than ever, so my eyes got waaay waaay wider than my stomach! Err... my wallet's stomach 😂
