    What a sweet young man you have raised, Mother! He is not afraid to kiss his mother on camera! He also kissed his grandmother's picture! He will make some woman a wonderful husband, if he's not married yet! He is a real man, not afraid to show feelings. We need more of them today! Plus the recipe looks great! My mother always said marry a man who can cook, and she did! My mother could cook and my dad was a great cook!

    I have been making golabki for 40 years. What I do is throw my cabbage in the freezer. I get it out to thaw the night before I plan to make them. By morning they are all thawed and ready to roll. Plus you don't have to wait for the cabbage to cool. I also make the rice the day before as well and put it in the fridge. Next day it makes everything easy as there is no steaming or cooking or waiting for things to cool.

      the old style (stove top) are still available, but by the time one pays for shipping, a new gasket, and a new regulator, you might as well buy a new one, but it never hurts to look around for 'vintage' items. I use one frequently,,, They are enjoyable. I have it stored with the 'slow cooker' LOL, but true.

    My mother used to do it .. very well, she didn’t measure, either. Very good, thank you!🌼She would scorch the cabbage in boiling water before rolling and added rice in the meat mix before rolling and cooking it in the tomato sauce. Liking the lemon and sugar idea:)

    We make Hungarian Cabbage Rolls. Ours is similar. We remove the leaves of the cabbage just like you did. Our meat mixture is 1 lb of ground beef and 1 lb of breakfast sausage. We do not precooked our rice. I put 2 handfuls in with my meat. I add 1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper and combine well. Then I stuff the leaves and roll them up just like your mom did. We layer our cabbage rolls in the bottom of our covered roaster or in the Crock-Pot. I am sure it could be cooked in the InstaPot but I do not have one so I do not know how long they need to cook. We top the cabbage rolls with 2 pkgs of the saurkraut in the plastic bag mixed with a large can of stewed tomatoes. We add about 2 cups of water if cooking in the Crock-Pot and cook on high about 3-4 hours. If cooking in the roasting pan we add the water about half way up the side of the cabbage rolls and bake at 375 degrees covered for 3-4 hours. We serve this with cooked pinto beans and a cast iron skillet of cornbread. We cook these only once a year. On New Year's Day.

    Grew up with this dish as a family staple meal-it brings back a lot of fond memories! From what I remember, this is is a similar recipe, but in my (Eastern European) Grandma's version, her secret ingredient was to use a bit of allspice, sparingly, not enough to overwhelm, but rather provide an additional, but light, background flavor. She also used a 3:1 mix of beef to pork with uncooked instant white rice, tomato juice, tabasco, a whole uncut onion, minced garlic, red wine vinegar, sugar, salt/pepper, bay leaf, parsley, and a cornstarch/water mix towards the end to help (slightly) thicken the sauce. When we knew it was on that day's menu, we really looked forward to it and loved her for making it! Potato pancakes were often the side dish she made to go along with it! A very hearty and special meal. Thanks for sharing yours...!

    Had a hard time convincing my 80 something parents to try making cabbage rolls in the instant pot using MY great grandmother’s recipe from Russia, because there’d be absolutely no way you can do it in 18 minutes 😆. So I did it following mostly your recipe. The only difference being we use moose meat and pork 50/50 as well as krauted cabbage head leaves. Makes a huge difference. Also instead of tomato paste we use a can of tomato soup. My parents wouldn’t believe that I didn’t cook them in a roaster all day in the oven!

    I had married a Polish fella way back when and of course this was one of his favorite meals. I hated making them but loved to eat them too. It took forever to boil the cabbage! After getting a divorce, I never made them again. Until today. Your video inspired me to do it in the pressure cooker. I used my recipe for the cabbage rolls but steamed the cabbage and cooked them according to your recipe. I don't have an IP and my pc doesn't get as hot so next time I'd adjust the time to steam the head a bit longer. Did you see what I wrote? "Next time." YES, doing it this way is so much easier and a lot less fuss and mess. Good meals, even traditional ones, don't have to take all day to cook anymore. Yay.

    I loved this video of you and your mom cooking 6our Grandma’s recipe. We are Rom and have a similar recipe. Instead of using tomato and lemon juice and then adding sugar and paste to balance all that acid, we use stewed tomatoes and a box of Pacific creamy tomato soup. We don’t precook the rice so it did always cook low and slow but the rice keeps its texture. We do the loose cabbage too usually as padding from scorching the bottom rolls and keeping the top moist. Pressure cooking is genius; thank you!

    My Romanian jewish grandmother used to make passover seders for over 40 people out of a small galley kitchen. We never knew how she did it. She's been gone for years and the family is trying to recreate her recipes since she never measured. I'm not sure how you got 20 rolls out of one cabbage, I ran short after 10 rolls, but I just made meatballs out of the rest of the leftover meat and added them to the instant pot. I guess we can call it, "deconstructed stuffed cabbage!!!". It's cooking right now in the instant pot and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

    Very nice measuring spoons, with a design on them. Best recipes are the older ones.
    What a great idea to use the Instant pot to steam the cabbage, love that idea. Who doesn't love cabbage rolls, best food ever.

    I my family we add raisins to the meat to sweeten the rolls themselves. Otherwise the recipe is the same. LOL Thanks for translating it over to the Instant Pot. As I have 2 of them, a 6 AND an 8 quart, I would make the rice in the other... less time to stand over the stove. :)

    delicious, but I stopped rolling them years ago....I put the meat and rice in the tomato sauce, chop the cabbage in a medium chop, then.....small ladle of sauce in the bottom, about 2" of cabbage to cover, more meat sauce, more cabbage.....till my 3" high pan is a bit over full....it will shrink......always sauce on the top layer.....bake 1 hr 350... I'm not a pressure cooker fan, so I'll save my time in the steaming and rolling step..... about 45 min to prep, 1 hr to cook....and since I'm single now, I bake mine in my little onion soup clay bowls or pyrex small bowls...freeze after cooking and cooling. 1 medium cabbage and a pound of meat plus 1 cup raw rice gets me 5--6 meals for 1

      Hi deemail, I was not a pressure cooker fan either. but I've had my Instant Pot 4 days now, and this is the 3rd recipe from pressure Luck I am trying. Jeff's roast and meatloaf were so fantastic, that I told my mom I know how to cook now! I got a 6 Qt 7-in-1 duo60 from Facebook marketplace for $50. Amazon has them for $99 + free shipping. I will never use a crockpot again, and I am using my Instant Pot everyday! What ever you cook in the IP is so much better than the oven. I feel way safer using this Instant Pot
      than my Cuisinart Pressure Cooker. There is no guessing the Seal/ Vent valve on the instant pot. it is sturdier than the electric pressure cooker I have, and I don't know the magic of the instant pot, why the food comes out like a professional chef when I use this , and not when i use the crock pot or oven or the Cuisinart pressure cooker. I have an air fryer, all that did was dry out all the food. I am putting my crock pots and air fryer on facebook marketplace for sale. Now I know why everyone I know that has an Instant Pot just loves it.
      Tomorrow I am trying Jeff's recipe for steak tidbits.

    I love this video with you and your mom making your grandma's Stuffed Cabbage. (It's actually very similar to my mom's recipe only my mom uses apple cider vinegar instead of lemon juice and brown sugar instead of white sugar.) Anyway, I'm making this tomorrow for St. Patrick's Day! :)

    My Jewish mother made great stuffed cabbage. When I asked her for the recipe she said she would give it to me someday before she died. She passed at age 94 but I never got that recipe. When I spoke at her memorial I mentioned that she never gave me the recipe. All the Jewish ladies at the memorial sent me theirs. I am going to try this one because none I have were good enough. And I want to try it it my Instant Pot. Love your videos.

    If you like the chunkier version of the sauce, replace half the tomato juice with an equivalent amount of canned, diced tomato that comes in its juice...

      We make our sauce with tomato paste, tinned diced tomato and thickened cream, pour it over our tray of rolls, and then bake it for 2 hours until the cream sauce gets thick. Holy crap its sooooooo good.

      My nana always used plain tomato sauce instead of tomato juice, it is thicker and makes the sauce so good without being chunky

    I made this for my parents' joint birthday party tonight. My dad is 79, and this is his all-time favorite meal. His Ukrainian mother used to make it. I sent him home with leftovers. Mom is 76 and doesn't make it since she has some dietary issues and too much cabbage is too much. The stuffed cabbages were divine. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I had a lot of sauce left over with my 8 qt. pressure cooker, so I might just do one can of tomato juice next time. You made a 79 year old very happy tonight. Thank you!

    In the fall I get 12 cabbages then I take a drill bit for my drill and get the Core out of each. Easy! Then put the cabbages in individual bags and put in freezer. When you need a cabbage just take out of freezer and thaw over night. Good for all types of recipes.
    Love my Instant Pot

    My maternal grandma was Portuguese and my maternal grandfather was Romanian. Each of their parents came to the US through Ellis Island, a few short years after it opened, from their respective countries and stayed in NYC. My Romanian great-grandma taught my Portuguese grandma how to make stuffed cabbage balls. In turn, my grandma taught my mother how to make stuffed cabbage balls, and she made them a lot. Loved eating them. Seeing this video brought back memories, and a few tears, of my grandma cooking cabbage balls, and other cultural food she cooked. I still make those same stuffed cabbage balls today using my great-grandma's recipe. I am going to have to make them in my Instant Pot. Certainly would be quicker than the stovetop method. Thanks so much for sharing your video.

    • @PressureLuck
      @PressureLuck  7 лет назад +9

      Thank you so much, Mimi! You can 100% freeze the leftover and, if fact, prepare it days before and just freeze it all and then thaw it out in the fridge until serving day and then just cover with foil and pop in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes and serve!
      Also, if you find you have lots of leftover sauce, that can be used as a delicious sweet & sour cabbage soup!

    I can understand why you're dumping sugar in there which really isn't a good thing for anyone who is diabetic an Italian such as myself we don't use sugars we use Sweet Basil fresh from the garden there is nothing like it and it does not screw up with your A1C count and it tastes tons better

    • @6733hbr1
      @6733hbr1 6 лет назад +1

      You can use whatever you like but the traditional recipe(s) would NEVER have basil in it. You can substitute artificial sweetener to avoid A1C flux. Enjoy!
