- Social business is a cause-driven business. In a social business, the investors/owners can gradually recoup the money invested, but cannot take any dividend beyond that point. Purpose of the investment is purely to achieve one or more social objectives through the operation of the company, no personal gain is desired by the investors. The company must cover all costs and make profit, at the same time achieve the social objective, such as, healthcare for the poor, housing for the poor, financial services for the poor, nutrition for malnourished children, providing safe drinking water, introducing renewable energy, etc. in a business way.

Muhammad Yunus sir is our living legend borned in my country which makes me proud. I'm intensively influenced by his social business motivation. Few days ago i just wanted to become an entrepreneur for only make money but now i'm influenced..........we should all broaden our outlook for mankind....

Something I waited for to be invented. Many of us don't find any meaning in simply earning money. I mean it's good to earn but a part lf us always wants to share prosperity infact multiply it and not to concentrate it to only certain lucky few. Social business is an innovative concept I would love to contribute to it in whichever way possible. This is something that needs to get viral in the world of economists and entrepreneurs. We need to spread this message.

When Dr. Professor Mohammad Yunus was a professor of Chittagong University, he first began the micro credit finance or social business under his Grameen Bank among the poor people of the village. He earned a lot of fame and achieved the Nobel Peace Prize as a first Bangladeshi citizen. He is our pride, our glory and our haughtiness. But some black-sheep of our country couldn't endure his fame and earnings. They obstructed him in many ways. One of them is the envious and malignant woman so-called prime minister of Aowami Govt. of Bangladesh. She dishonored him, depressed him, bothered him, insulted him and neglected him in many ways. All people of the world know it.
We proud of that kind of money born in our country 😊🇧🇩

Now I am pursuing my studies in USA, I had some chapters about Muhammad Yunus in my two classes: Globalization I and Globalization II which deal with how we can globally think and reflect on current social problems while we respond and act locally according to our particular context. Do you know Songhai Project, based in Benin? It's an amazing model to emulate.

the great thing about socail business is it's all selfless, so everybody can get envolved and not feel threatened by competion, becuase everybody is trying to help society and not themselves. if people really want to help the first thing they need to do is make sure more and more people know about him and watch his video's on social business and how it has impacted in the world of poverty.
He is not Muhammad Yunus he is Muhammad Universe.
Bcoz his idea is universal, can be implemented anywhere.

I read his biography and history about his bank and didn't need any economic background to understand the point he was making (thou I had a single class of Microeconomy), Go for it, you can always stop reading when it gets dull so there is nothing to be lost in trying:)

Will you regard the following business as a social business, if we are a profit making business with people's good intentions in mind and only providing services/products which helps our customers in becoming a better version of themselves, while contributing 30 percent of our profits to some needy NGO's or organisations which helps people in distress of any kind (NGO's are chosen through a rigorous process and subject to surprise audits).
I have asked this question because as a 20 year old who has not yet achieved financial freedom but has a burning desire to do good for the society was intrigued by the idea of earning money while having our stakeholder's best interests in mind.
Iam planing to open social business in future wer i can give free tuition n at same time open gate of e commerce business wer who ever is mi e commerce customer I will give der children to hve free education.so is dis idea related to social business
its not selfish.i completely disagree. if there is no business how the world would survive. You must note to promote social business you can not ignore other businesses here you are using selfish dimension and this is not good being a nobel laureate. Thanks
I understand your point, but for exemple the 1% who own the most riches in this world just keep accumulate that money in banks, sleeping money. It could have benefit a lot of people with great potential to achieve a lot of things. They could have make loans with 0% rate but they don't. The model of business used today is very selfish, we accept poverty as part of this world but it's actually a mistake of society, it could be avoided.
what will happen when another yogurt company comes? Certainly selfish interest will be there. And when there will be competition, "social" thing will be used for its publicity.
Suggest you read his book "Creating A World Without Poverty"... he explains the definition of each... Current Business Model focuses on Maximizing Profit.... Social Business focuses on Maximizing Social Goals (any profit made is used to expand the business model....which is Maximizing Social Goals...think duplication, here) and to be self-sufficient.
If a business is not self-sufficient, it is a Charity...not a Social Business.
