Brilliant use of systems over goals. Last month I broke 80 for the first time. I double bogeyed 3 of the last 4 holes to finish 79. Been on a golf hiatus since, partly to savor the 79 and partly due to our heat. Will be adopting a rule rule set such as this one soon.
Used to play for (not much) money with a group of mates years ago. Winner of the 18 gets money, but we’d also do a prize for best score over the “final five”, holes 14-18. We did it so you’d still have something to play for even if you’d had a stinker, but it was also a really good way to maintain focus. I still challenge myself on a Final Five score, even if I’m in my own. Find it very helpful.
Matt, used this today. I was even par going into 15-17 the trouble holes on my course. Thought about this Video and hit away from water on 15. On par 3 16 took the club I had confidence in and played away from water and short of green. Missed green but in great spot to get up/down. Just missed birdie putt from off green.
TTs to the target. ❤ Second half of the round play an 8 instead of a 9. Love it! Keep sharing your thought process it’s very inclusive and enlightening. Cheers from Canada
Great stuff,, so true about losing focus and momentum around 12 -13 holes..always noticed that.. gotta pull yer socks up and focus on the final 6 holes..shows how focused the pros are , to do that all the time , day in day out...
I love how you have been brushing up on Scott Adams - reframing your brain, and systems over goals. This summer, I was recovering from a back injury and found that swinging the club much more softly led to my shots going right down the middle. It is something I hope I can retain as a regain strength. I found that repeated 150s right down the middle let me break 100 fairly easily, as I had zero sand, water or Outabounds shots!
Just found your channel a month ago. I have watched several of your videos. I think you are doing a great job explaining the mental side of scoring and not so many mechanics. I am a 12 handicap. The last few rounds I've played, I change my strategy and now have a better mindset on course management because of your videos. Thanks Matt. Did your wife beat you in this one, lol? Also, I need one of your solid black putters here in Tennessee, lol.
Started playing golf a year ago and this is some of the best advise i have heard. Will try all these on my next round and report back. I am just trying to break 95 lol. Wish me luck.
I'm the opposite for the most part. The first 6 holes are very inconsistent until I find my groove and then do much better on the back. But I like your ideas. Have some ground rules for the first 6 holes to keep the score low until I find it....
Playing the shot you’re confident in is key. For me, I love hitting flip shots, whereas most people hate them, but I know I can flop from 50yds and in, so I play to that distance whenever possible
I'm expecting 20% comments will be around your regular attire change and some around "TIDDIESTOTHETARGET". But hey ... that's not me ... 🤣😉 great tips again Matsky. Thx, ... now I have to watch the vid again as I was distracted. 😉🤣 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I can completely verify putting a line on the ball for putting works. I'm doing it this season and my putting average has dropped 3putts per round. Btw, you once told me that if I was shooting 85-87 most of the time I was probably a 10 handicap; registered this season for official handicap and it's 11 so that was a good guess.
The most important thing in lowering your handicap is eliminating any score worse than a bogey. A huge part of that is simply course management and learning how to position your tee shots to the largest zone that gives you a margin of error and then your approach shots to a place where you NEVER short side yourself. Then it's all short game. 80% of your practice should be short game.
I think most important thing in lowering your handicap is knowing where and how far your shots will go. Once you know that you can apply course management
Matty Boom Boom i can completely relate to this, on to break 80 recently 4 penalty shots on my last 4 holes and i shot an 89! This is great advice, thank you as always, waddaplaya
Your logic and thinking makes total sense. I always caution my son with whom I play golf with against pursuing “heroic” shots. Sometimes it works, but in most cases you add unnecessary strokes. Great video!
As far as maintaining focus throughout the round, part of my 'system' is to break the 18 holes into 3 six hole games. People think about the front and back 9, but that's too many and just a function of the way courses are designed. People who are really struggling could even think about breaking the course into 6 games of three holes each.
I’ve thought of breaking it down into 19 one hole games…..it helps me maintain focus…if you are really struggling…forget the back nine…the front nine….go straight to the nine teenth…….
Are those basketball hats available in stores yet? Side note, what do you do when your system isn't working? When even the shots you thought were the easy ones are going horribly wrong?
Brilliant Thought I was the only one experiencing Twilight Zone moments in my round where time and reason seem to not exist. I like the idea of keeping track of my good and bad delusions. Thanks Baus.
Although I don’t hit the ball nowhere near as long as you do, I have written down your rules and am going to adopt them. Thank you. Also, seeing your sister reminded me that she has a RUclips channel as well but I have forgotten the name of it. Could you refresh my memory?
This channel has a lot of LIFE ADVICE disguised as golf makimg lots of sensible decisions in the long term results in a relaxed easy game rather thsn panicky blow up holes as a result of emotion
Bro... another great video. I watched this video before playing yesterday. When it was time to chip, all I kept chanting to myself was "Tiddiestothegreen"...lmao. I was a chipping beast. My buddies thought I was joking around until they started losing some coins to me.... I advised them its the wayoftheplaya...
Almost didn't recognize you without a bucket hat! My front 9 is almost always far better than the back. I'm not sure if it's a matter of conditioning or just the difficulty in maintaining focus for 18 holes.
my goal every hole is have a par putt. even if its 50ft. i want 1 par putt. if im hitting a wedge into a green, i expect to land it close enough for a makeable putt. if im hitting an iron onto the green, i expect 2 putt. bogey golf for many is well managed golf.
Any tips for the complete opposite? So many time that last 6 holes a come in just one or two over but my first 12 can make me wonder why I play the game.
I find I can fade after 12 holes too, for me it's about food. I have to eat something like a sandwich on hole 6/7 and then a cerealbar/chocolate on 10/11 so that I have that energy for the rest of the round.
I was the eternal last 4 hole f-up. I played too quick, walked too quick, I squeezed the life out of the club. One day I walked off 14 with a bogey for 6 over. I was so pissed off I (yet again) I just relaxed. Finished birdie, birdie, par, birdie and got to a 5 handicap for the first time. I bottled that feeling of relaxation and sip from it when I need to to. I will have bad rounds but if I'm playing well I will never f-up the last 4.
I’m sorry for wearing the cap backwards. It was my first time
A cap, who dat?
Panama hat. Much better.
Shit dude, I never knew you had ears.
Here you go: i was just telling myself "hey there's a new guest on the channel today" 😃
nice haircut for a playa
I legit thought it was someone else on the teebox
Same here.
I legit thought it was Mike Patton from Faith No More😂
It's because of the hat!!!!
@@nicoboshoffwhat is it? It’s a Matt.
I thought it was Bdog!
Totally different vibe without our beloved bucket hat.
Yeah who is this guest host? Hope Matt is back soon

Nice to see your brother Vlad back on the channel!

‘Tiddies to the target’ 😂
It’s ma new mantra for chipping, fantastic…
PP to the Pin! for the win... (credit to Manolo)
I appreciate you not editing out bad shots. Makes your suggestions and lessons more legit.
Watch the chip at 3.30 again, it's edited, the ball disappears then reappears haha
Your research on finding one's handicap is the best on the internet. I appreciate that playa !!!
I agree. Golf should be 12 holes. I usually play the "front 6" and "back 6" since i play twilight exclusively to avoid crowds lol
Matt, used this today. I was even par going into 15-17 the trouble holes on my course. Thought about this Video and hit away from water on 15. Thanks for the love playa. Big love back
Not sure how many vids of yours I am up but hands down helped me with my mental part of the game more than anyone else. Keep it up.

I think for most golfers the first three holes are like a warm up and then there after they feel a little more confident
Great stuff and looking sharp. New saying for the Playa IQ? EPTO - Each Playa to Their Own.
This man really gives intelligent advice! Well done! I am learning a lot!
Playing the shot you’re confident in is key. For me, I love hitting flip shots, whereas most people hate them, but I know I can flop from 50yds and in, so I play to that distance whenever possible
Just finished watching your lesson vids! I can see your swing is alot smoother and effortless! Keep up the good work 👍
Man, I can relate to everything you said in the video.. I give up more shots in last 5 holes than first 13
YOU GOT A HAIRCUT!!! Lookin' sharp, bud👌
The way of the Playa! Great content fits my game to a T. Tired after 12-14 holes. Must remember think smart. Thumbs up brother

Tiddies to the target has helped me so much great simple tip glad to have that swing thought instead of what normally goes through my head with chips
I love this thought I used it today got up/down 4/5 times

have you lost weight or is it the hat that makes you look slimmer matt? (im overweight, so hoping all i need to do is buy one of your hats)

Thoroughly enjoy your attitude. I try to apply the "no stress" to my game.
Where can I get a copy of your music. I would like to add it to my library.
Matt , again a great video with lots of good advice. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊🇩🇪
Question: Does Ketone-IQ help with regular energy only, or also BDE?
Love the music opening 🤘🤘

I see as Matt ages he’s adopting the expat in Asia uniform of short/no hair+goatee

I eat a peanut butter sandwich at the turn, gives me energy and really helps me stay focused
I love peanut butter too
I like that your ligit. You missed that putt pretty bad tbh, but you didn't cut it and just made a good hole out 👍
I usually don’t start playing well until hole 13. My last 6 holes are always the best.
I wonder if #11 should be Cardio? A little extra time on the bike never hurts if one gets tired late in a round.
"Excuse me, hey Teeski, you're in the frame, I'm talking here, tryna teach some golf to folks."
This happened to me last sunday. Shooting lights out then 5 doubles on the back
Great advice !!!
Love the golf course shirt

I'm going to get a "TIDDIESTOTHETARGET" tattoo on my forearm
