- NEW GAME INSPIRED BY GETTING OVER IT, CHECK OUT THAT FLIPPING MOUNTAIN: • That Flipping Mountain...
First full playthrough of Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy ever uploaded to RUclips. GOIWBF is a challenging game by the QWOP creator, inspired by Sexy Hiking, the Game Maker classic in which you have to climb a mountain of obstacles equipped with a hammer only.
Please note that the focus of this video is on the documentation of the game's obstacles, challenges and design and authentic gameplay of a typical first playthrough. It's NOT a documentation of the player's skills. Some unneccessary lengths, countless failed attempts and terrible setbacks have been edited out. Some others and a lot of struggling are still in to show the special character of the game.

HI RUclips
That was about the reward that you get after clicking "ok". And of course I did not record the reward :)
Ludophiles wait so the snake wasn't the reward?
Exactly, the snake wasn't the reward. I just included the snake as an extra because many people probably wondered what it is about.
Is the reward worth it? I almost threw pc out of window :P
I made it too the end. Yes it was worth the pain. Yes it was worth it. Thanks for not spoiling it.

“I know most likely you’re watching this on RUclips” holy shit.
Genuinely, this is the sign of a winner in life--someone who just won't quit and who keeps going, professing one step at a time, even if they stumble and fall down, until they eventually achieve some kind of greatness. This game, depending on how you play it, is basically an analogy for your attitude to life and the challenges and hardships it presents to you. So, kudos for making it to the end, dude! Much respect.
Well-observed, great conclusion. Indeed I can rarely let a quest be unresolved, in games or in real life but I tend to be selective and only go for quest that do not lead to greatness ;)

Thank you very much. I'll add it to the description.
The creator was right, it gave you a true sense of accomplishment for completing something that actually required an adaptive nature, not just respective moves or gestures.
I loved it. Took me only six whole days to beat. That was with the help of three friends as, we have lives... We can't be on for six days straight, we took breaks and free time we played progressing and messing up, it was fun. I loved it.
Gz on beating it and I totally agree with your assessment :)
I came here just for the sexy jazz and the philosophy.
i cant wait for a TAS run to come out on this game

Hmm, I don't want to pay 12 bucks for a fuckin patience game, that too
I never thought a weird indie game called sexy hiking would get a spiritual sequel.
I actually enjoy the lack of commentary. feels like everyone does it, without letting you experience it. like a baby bird getting explained how to eat the chewed up food.
This dude is SO FUCKING PATIENT...
I would not want him in a sniper team targeting me...
Also, who found the game thanks to bulldog?
You'd rather find this guy in a Civ game preparing and patiently waiting for a hundred years before catching the enemy off guard with a devastating Blitzkrieg ;)

Holy cow....like I saw this and thought "he probably almost falls and saves himself, I'll keep an eye out for that moment" now I just need to go change my shorts real quick
I fucking hate jump scares. Good thing I can turn my volume down when I play that section, as it's probably better to watch a vid of it than experience it while having the utmost focus. Also, I could picture your reaction as you slowly lowered the hammer & yourself as to say: I am traumatized.
Me: Haha this narrator talkin' mad shit to this guy that's playing
Narrator: Now I know, most likely you're watching this on RUclips or Twitch, while some dude with 10 million views does it for you. Like a baby bird being fed chewed-up food. That's culture too.

“Hey you’re being so slow at a game that literally requires patience and concentration to play successfully”
I don’t know what kind of impatient blockhead you have to be to think that, but I’m glad that I can actually appreciate this playthrough, both in the player’s skills to play progressively and the philosophical statements the game is making.
Jac Sanchez he can
have taken the snake
He is being slow beyond requirement. At the easiest possible parts that not even you could fuck up he goes so slowly that it makes me want to bang my head against the wall.
My playthrough took less than 3 hours, yours took more than 5. There might be a correlation between slow and cautious and time to finish, don't you think so? And I didn't know the requirements. This was recorded on release day and it was the first playthrough uploaded to RUclips. When recording I didn't know how far the end would be, I didn't know the best strategy for a specific obstacle, I didn't know if a tiny mistake would take me back to start or not, I didn't even know what action would be a mistake. And this uncertainity on the first playthrough for me is one of the special characteristics of the game, it's a major part of the experience and I'm happy that I didn't mess it up by watching a video before playing just to technically achieve it but not really gettting over it in the purest possible way.
Now I did it in 00h:43m:10.135s.

you realize people have speedrun this game in 2 mins and 47 seconds?
This is almost like a “How to Adult Simulator”. It shows you how to get started, get back up, and go at it again. It’s a huge metaphor. Wow. Breathtakingly beautiful
If you don't figure this shit out, before you've reached that "adult" life state, you're gonna have a bad time. :)
Thank you for uploading this. This is awesome. It takes away what is so beautiful about the game - the sheer frustration of it - but instead watching this is a chill experience, like a beat poem.
That's a nice way to see it, thanks for the comment :)
Thank you both for not showing the ending and for riding the snake.
Gladly :)
“I dedicate this game to you I give it to you with all my love” I don’t know why but this make me sad after all trying to beat the game
That was the moment when I realized that this is the end of the game, I was really happy that I was about to make it to the top but on the other hand I also wished it would still go on for a little bit more.
It’s a good thing you didn’t show the reward, thank you and I respect that
Thank you very much :)
It's really weird when you get dislikes and called names for keeping a promise and respecting the wish of the creator.

Your patience gave me hope. Yesterday I saw you doing things slowly, so I tried to make slowly this time. Today I got to clear this game twice. Thanks.
great :) I've recorded this on release day, it then was the first full playthrough uploaded to RUclips, so I played this without any idea of what to come or how much a mistake would cost me or what exactly would be a mistake at all, so I was constantly in panic and very cautious

way better than speedrun one,Why so many dislikes?
It was the first ever complete playthrough uploaded to YT, recorded on release day. First batch of dislikes came from people who wanted to see the secret after game reward but I've decided not to show it because the developer asked for that. Then it probably gets a lot of dislikes because it's very long and slow, but hey, in the moment uploaded it was the speedrun world recored ;)
@@ludophilia reward is patients, determination all of times you playing this game
You fail but you don't give up, just getting over it and continued
Narrator sound more depressing when you almost reaching ending that make sad and make me feel angry when other RUclips turn off because ragequit

Dug up some info regarding the release of Getting Over It. It's planned to be released on Steam for 7.99 on 7th of December. Following the procedure described in the pinned comment above you can get Getting Over It DRM-free on 1st of December and probably a Steam key in addition, but also with Getting Over It you can get 40+ other games for only about 10 bucks in total. For more info check out the pinned comment above.

Thank you for your video man. Some people just commented badly without even trying the game by themselves. I already tried it and found it really hard. I watched your video and learned the ways of getting over some obstacles I was stuck on. In one word, you are a great player and thank you for your sharing.
I'm glad the video does help. A very slow and cautious approach might not be as exciting to watch but often is better to get over obstacles.
If this is too slow for you, just watch at 1.5x speed. Problem solved.
How to get pissed of simulator.
If riding the snake ends up being an achievement on Steam, I will hate my life.

Yeah because you don't hear a person screaming
am i just seeing things, or when you are at the bucket/snake decision point, is your man just kind of always looking at the snake? cuz in the other jumps he seems to tend to glance at the next jump's endpoint. if so, this is awesome and subtle design. if not, cool anyway
Getting over it:you can't beat me
Ludophile:Hold my 🔨
this playthrough is amazingly even and well done and the narration is right on pace, it is not very repetitive and not much dialogue is skipped, dont know why this has so many dislikes its easily my favorite playthrough ive seen of this game
oh, thanks :) It's the way it is because it was my first playthrough, recorded on release day, and also the first uploaded to RUclips, so no other reference available. I had no idea what would be coming, how far it still would be to the end and I was totally afraid of making a mistake taking me back to start, without even knowing what exactly would be a mistake. That's why it's so slow. I guess many people think it's lame, resulting in dislikes.
because of 33, I spilled lemonade on my bed, that was just mean
I've came here for the wisdom this game has so much wisdom in such a short game it's crazy

I am suprised how fast you finished the game. It took me around 3 and a half hours. I salute you comrade
Thanks and gz for finishing. 3.5 hours is relatively fast as well. 2nd time I played with a little bit more practise it took about an hour. And as speedrunners prove with a lot of practise it's possible to finish in just a couple of minutes.
But you do understand the difference between first playthroughs and speedruns?

I love the cement analogy. I am a musician, and it describes an aspect of the song writing process perfectly (in my experience at least). When I work on songs, my brain moves faster than my skills enable me to recreate what I hear in my head. So I have to start putting some of what I hear down, to save it.
And there it starts to get stuck.
As I continue to record elements, and branch off with new inspiration that the creation of those elements triggers, more and more of a real song starts to take shape; but at the same time, more and more of the free-flowing creative nature of the original inspiration is lost. At a certain point, the desire to improve or change any given element dwindles almost to nonexistence.
Not that there is no more inspiration, or room for change. The whole process is one of discovery and exploration; but there is a point, in many instances, where a particular idea, sound, or part in a project seems truly to be set in stone. A point after which the only options seem to be complete removal/destruction of the element, or leaving it in the song in its current state.
I began working on music several years ago, and my overall production skills have drastically improved. My personal sound has also evolved, and though I can still hear "myself" in my previous works, the tracks I create now have changed quite a bit. However, I am still working on ideas that were started in the early stages of my development. Going back and finishing these songs is another area where the cement analogy rings true.
Depending on the project, many of my older songs have been developed to a significant extent. Not finished, but recorded, and given the beginnings of tone and structure. In going back and attempting to complete them, with my time-honed skills and evolved style, I am faced with an interesting dilemma: had I been inspired with this song later in my growth as a musician, how different would it sound? Should I get rid of elements that the current "me" could do "better"? Or should I leave them in to preserve the integrity of the original idea?
Regardless of what side I come down on in a given scenario, the choice always seems to be between two extremes. Break apart and start over, or let be and continue from what I have. For whatever reason, a compromise seems either impossible or extremely uncomfortable.
That being said, I was very intrigued, and gratified, to hear this phenomenon explained by someone else as I was playing "Getting Over It". The analogy truly is a very good one, and it opened my eyes to the fact that other people, in other creative fields and with different creative processes, go through the same experience.
I love this game :D
TL;DR
The cement analogy perfectly captured a phenomenon I often experience while making music, and made me realize that other people experience it as well, even in other fields of creativity.
Mr. Foddy has a really nice flow.
This game is constantly trying to gain your attention by talking, and it wants you to pay attention to the voice you hear. So you can’t concentrate. Don’t get angry , because thats exactly, what it wants you to do.
On the part where he starts talking about the games, he says they suck, and thats where you get angry and you can’t concentrated... Getting over it, is a hiking game and when you are hiking, (in real life) you have the fear of losing everything you have (meaning your life). As soon as you feel that your in an uncomfortable spot, you become paranoid of falling.
You get distracted by people telling you things. Let me tell you a story, its a story about distraction. Every year these frogs have this race of who can get up this steep mountain... the kids never make it, heres why. When the frogs get close the people start screaming “YOU CAN’T DO IT!” Then the frogs look over and then... they fall. But one frog. Kept going even tho they were screaming. And he made it... because he was deaf... so dont listen to the voices on the game, and you will make it.
*_Good Luck..._*
Solution to guy talking? mute button
Imagine falling at the end
It happened :) I once ejected from one of the asteroids in a way too flat angle and 'gravity down' became stronger than 'gravity up'... Iirc I fell down to the phone box.

I'm just commenting to say thank you for cutting the reward
Gz on beating it. I swore that I won't record the reward :)
Even watching this I thought the snake ride was the reward... And maybe I still do and. All are tricking me !
Meh, reward wasn't that satisfying, considering
Alright Bennett. Is all that gonna be on the test?
11:45.... damn. He got me.
Keep going, it's culture too :)
Yes, it's slow. But do you understand why? The first 3rd of the game isn't played that slow because you naturally play it more often and gain more practise. The last 3rd of the game was played completely blind, as this was recorded on release day and it was in fact the first full playthrough uploaded to RUclips. It was done to illustrate what authentic normal gameplay of the game looks like, not a speedrun after 300 hours of practise. Playing slow and cautious has been proven as a valid strategy in order to finish the game. And then, of the 100 backseat gamers complayning about it not 1 has produced a faster playthrough. Just try it yourself, you can get the game along with ~50 other games in Humble Trove/Humble Monthly for just ~12 bucks: www.humblebundle.com/monthly/trove?partner=Ludophiles

thanks for your video,much help.
That was the most beautiful credits sequence I've ever seen in a game. The slow ascension into space and beyond, the serene music, symbolizing your accomplishment over scaling the mountain, and that "thank you" note to you, the player, for enduring as much as you have, and experiencing Mr. Foddy's creative genius.
Yep, everything in the game is actually very well-designed and the ending is really nice.
Good playthrough, thanks.
Thanks for the video, how long did your full unedited playthrough take?
Felt like it took... forever... Achieving the practise to get to such heights certainly took 20+ hours. And then probably 20 more till I got a playthrough from start to finish without a worst case setback. Net time for that playthrough might have been 5-6 hours. But I had to take a lot of extended breaks and do something completly else for some time because it was just too exciting, the closer I got to the end the worse it got :). But I'm certainly not a good measure, I'm a rather slow player in general, with a bad mouse on an inappropriate surface. The developer Bennett Foddy said he completed a playthrough in 5.5 hours, some people are a lot faster, a few finish in just a couple of hours incl. all the time to practise.
your sensivity 0.1 ?
who else got so scared when the guy got to the church bells and the bats came out and that scream? I got so scared Lmao
That slow part at 27:00 is such a pain I was really having a blast up until this point In Spite Of The Suffering

Great job playing this rage inducing game. 👏🏿👏🏿
Idk what people are going on about it being too slow, it's super relaxing. If you want something fast why not watch a speedrun? Why click on a video over an hour long, what did you expect?
Why did it take you a full 3 minutes to start riding the snake?
To illustrate the wasted effort before giving in to the call of the snake.
Holy! You did it :-O!

Why does the ending made me so sad.........

I can't even begin to imagine the sheer amount of frustration you felt during this.
Not so much frustration, more like... panic :) Especially the further I had proceeded, I simply was afraid to lose all progress at any moment. This was the first full playthrough ever uploaded to YT, I didn't know what was still to come or how far it was to the top :)
