090424 - Devotional - Faith In Action

What do you picture when you hear the word faith? One of my mental pictures of faith in action is the memory of my two-year-old son, Shane, shivering by the side of a swimming pool, looking eagerly at me in the water. I can remember calling to him from only about two inches away, “Go ahead, Shane, jump!” In that moment Shane faced a major crisis of faith - Can he trust that me, his dad, is powerful enough to catch him if he jumps in? Can he trust that my character is good-that I will keep my promise to catch him? Well, after a time of deep thought and contemplation as a 2 year old, Shane acts on his faith, jumping into my arms! He’s pleasantly surprised and wants to climb back out and do it again . . . and again . . . and again! That’s what faith is. It’s putting your belief and trust in something or somebody outside of yourself, and then acting on that belief. For the Christian faith is believing God’s word and acting upon it, no matter how I feel, because God promises a good result. Listen as we dig into the topic of faith (Hebrews 11:6).
