First time turning on this lower-end lap top in about 2 years and it was saying this for about 6 minutes then it finally had a progress bar. It's been an additional 5 minutes and it's at 20% Working on updates. Just to give you guys a time frame.

Just want to say my experience about this, there are reasons why our laptop is like this first is the update and second is the windows might be changing something. Regardless of that the best thing to do is to wait. Wait until 2-5 hours. Second is to follow first some comand that says in the internet and the last option is to turn it off
I was about to do this, but got into an hour long conversation with my wife. Came back to the computer and it had finally finished the loop and restarted. It now works really well. Try waiting it out if you can.

It's good advice but definitely do wait a bit extra, like 1 hour. During the middle of this video, the process finally complete, so all may not be lost...
A quick tip, search for services and now find Windows update in the list and right click on it. Now click on properties and change from automatic or manual to disable and then apply and okay. Now you can shutdown with no worries.

It's ok to forced shutdown Bcz no installation is running. If it's in middle of installation and u peformed forced shutdown means u choosen death(laptop)

Besides, you also know before restarting the computer if it's going to update or not. Adjust the time/what you do or have someone do for you according to your schedule/you can pause updates and install them when it suits you, etc..; this seems very obvious, I'm not sure why it needs to be said.

I got traumatized by updating my PC
