Thanks a lot for this. I'm actually in shot at the 2:14 mark. I deliberately walk behind Quentin to just get on TV, then walk back again :-) Meant a lot to find this since the VHS I had of it has long since been lost.
This is a genuine historical gem. The history of the London Brighton Run is one of those: "Everybody knows it, so why record it?" things, that needs uploads ike this to stay properly understood. It also shows that 'Old' old Top Gear was sometimes better than the Clarkson/May/Hammond POWER! version ever was.
All fine and good. But make haste to realize that these horseless carriages with never be able to travel over a mile-a-minute...as the human anatomy will not withstand such rapidity !
In former times racing on public roads was not allowed in the UK therefore the Irish invited the british automobilists to do it on their roads, and to honor that offer, the Brits choose the colour of that green island !

holy cow, why did anyone watch this show back then? looks just like the current Fifth Gear, including at least one of the presenters.
Sehr schöner Film, ich war zum Jubiläums-Run als Hobby-Fotograf auch dabei
ALL respect to these beautiful vehicles. & HUGE ADMIRATION!!!! to all who took part EXCEPT THOSE BLOODY CHEATING FROGS!!!!👎😠😡
Who was the presenter? Andy Kershaw?
Steve Berry
thats why topgear got improved by sacking everyone except CLARKO and MAY
NOT bein funny, but 100 miles per charge for a 100 year old ELECTRIC CAR seems pretty fucking good to me....not a PROBLEM

The Irish colour is not green.
Not strictly speaking - but green is the colour that will be forever associated with the country. And the French nabbed blue first.

@@jameskearney4100 No bloody use in 1798 either!
@@Tourist1967 Damn good point !!!
