I'm a moomoo but I hope they aren't pressured to be the next Mamamoo, rather I hope they shine as Purple Kiss and are able to show their talents and own charms. Stop dropping Mamamoo's name all the time just because they are from the same company. Purple Kiss fighting! Looking forward to your debut!

I kinda agree. What makes MAMAMOO special is no one is similar to them....like at all. They seemingly do what they want to and don't really care if it's trendy or not. That's great, it's what made millions of Moomoos around the world, but that's not the only key to their success. PURPLE KISS does not have to imitate them to reach their level. If they did, it might come off as fake, and if there is one thing that MAMAMOO isn't, it's fake. PURPLE KISS should be allowed to develop their own style/personality and gain fans THAT way. It's still early days, and it'll take time for us to get to know them and for them to become comfortable in their new life in the spotlight. I feel they are up to it. It'll be an adventure for both them and us, so let's all wish them the best of luck.

LMAO their reactions when it was pointed out they hadn't mentioned Mamamoo. Honestly, I think that's okay. They asked what motivated them to become a singer, not what motivated them to join RBW. And that could easily be things from before Mamamoo was even well established. So it's okay~
But I'm glad that their goal is to have the same kind of versatility and fun charm that Mamamoo has. Personally, I like seeing groups with diverse sounds. They still seem a little shy and nervous here and there, but I'm sure they'll grow into it! Looking forward to when Swan recovers/can rejoin them and then their official debut! :)

Esquire Korea, don't mention Mamamoo's name everytime. One time is enough. When you asked how about mamamoo when they wanted to become a singer, that was soooo off!!! They feel pressured too y'know. I think they will be big, not because they are in Mamamoo's company and shadow but because of their talent. Let them have their own light!!!!!

Folks, you need to accept that MMM will always be mentioned with them, especially in their first few years. This is Korean culture, the senior/junior relationship is meaningful and of great importance (you're also watching a freaking Esquire Korea video). MMM came first, they are the ultimate sunbaes in RBW and everyone else that works in RBW will be asked "how does MMM influence you?", "do you look up to MMM?" and the groups will always have to answer. When it's 2035 and RBW is unveiling their 5th girl group, those girls will absolutely be expected to know about MMM, what they did for RBW, and their influence on kpop. The history of your company is important to know, those that came before you helped lay the foundation for your success and to pay respect to them for it is a big deal in Korea. This is why I guarantee you that you can put on an SES track and aespa can dance to it even though SES was breaking big before the kids in aespa were even born.
They will always be MMM's little sisters. It's not your culture and that's fine but you need to respect it for what it is and let Koreans be on this front.
Dosie seems the one who fits the leader vibes the most to me. Before stanning them fully, I always thought she's the leader but they don't have a confirmed leader yet. Most people say the leader would be either Jieun or Goeun but idk ig everytime dosie is the one who leads the conversations and all so I think she would be a very good leader

Jieun is the leader and its confirmed in boss in a mirror. In their introduction Jieun is always the one who counts first before they start the introduction. Like what solar always did when they do an introduction in mamamoo

This was a really good interview. Thanks Esquire for the eng subs! I think the only part I didn't like was when Esquire asked "you don't talk about Mamamoo?" I'm not sure why they asked that when MMM and PK aren't close in the first place. Constantly name dropping MMM doesn't add much substance to the conversation.
it's because Mamamoo are essentially their predecessors in this company. But I agree. It helps no one to mention them constantly, and probably just puts an insane amount of pressure on PK

They ain't the second MMM, they are the first PK. Let them walk their own path, learn from MMM and be inspired, but let's strive as a fandom to make them feel as they don't need to fill anyone's shoes but their own!

A lot of comments about the Mamamoo questions being awkward, but you have to remember this is an interview. Esquire are not fans and an interview isn't about being nice. It is inevitable that comparisons and questions about Mamamoo will come up and PK will have to learn how to deal with it. I think PK did well this interview in answering the questions. Dosie proves again that she is quick thinking.
Also I don't think they looked as nervous as some people suggest. I think it's more that esquire isn't an interview where you are chaotic, it's a more "serious" type interview.
thats not the point. the 1st question about mamamoo was totally fine, but them being called out for not mentioning mamamoo as inspirations (even if it was "playful") was not just inappropriate but also makes no sense. im glad Dosie was smart enough to point out the flaw in that logic

The question about why they didn't talk about Mamamoo bothers me for obvious reasons, but also, realistically, Mamamoo debuted in 2014. Most of the (PK) members would have been 12 or older at this point, and I believe that they would have already been inspired by other singers etc and made up their career choices before then. So not only is this question somewhat invasive and puts them on the spot, it makes no sense for PK to have wanted to become an idol _because_ of Mamamoo, since Mamamoo wasn't as big then as they are now.
Of course as they said in the question before that, they can still learn from MMM and be inspired by them. But I don't think any of them genuinely wanted to become idols because of Mamamoo, even of they respect and admire them now.
