    Scotland v Switzerland kicks off at 8pm on Wednesday followed by Scotland v Hungary on the 23rd of June at 8pm.
    Now that the pain of Germany on Friday is slowly but surely disappearing, it's time to get behind Steve Clark and the Scotland team. Because let's be honest, did anyone really think we could beat a team packed with top-drawer players from the top clubs across Europe? I certainly didn't expect Scotland to win, and the fallout from it has more to do with the fact that our players just didn't perform. And rightly so, they've received criticism for it.
    I've heard some fans complaining that Billy Gilmore should have started. But would Billy Gilmore really have made a difference against the Germans? Toni Kroos bossed the game, and Ilkay Gundogan, actually when you look back is fresh off a treble-winning Manchester City last season, before moving on to play for Barcelona, showed their quality. Germany had quality all over the pitch, and we struggled to even get out of our own half. Now Scotland's players have to step up, stop the talking, and perform on the pitch.
    I can tell you right now, it's not going to get any easier. Switzerland also boasts some very good players, with four or five playing at levels well above most of our team. Apart from the madness of Ryan Fraser, we have players like Liam Cooper in Saudi Arabia and Anthony Ralston, who struggles to secure a regular place at Celtic. We're lacking players who play at top levels regularly, and we're also lacking a reliable goal-scorer up front.
    In addition to our defensive weaknesses, which have plagued us in recent games, we need to find goals from somewhere. It's a daunting challenge, but if we want to keep our dreams of progressing from this group alive, we need a performance from Scotland against Switzerland. I have my doubts about our ability to contain Switzerland too, given their strong showing against Hungary.
    Switzerland has players like Granit Xhaka, performing well for Lusanne, and they have firepower in Breel Embolo from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Ruben Vargas from Augsburg. Andoy will also pose a threat up front, despite only his second cap. Scotland needs to be more positive, on the front foot, and create more chances. We have to push near their box and support our midfield, where most of our goals come from.
    Am I confident? It's 50/50 at the moment, I think if we get a draw, it gives us a fighting chance against Hungary, who were a level below Switzerland in that match, so all to play for. Let's get behind Steve Clark, the manager, and the players. I know there are some people, some morons out there who are desperately waiting to kick Steve Clark if this all goes pear-shaped. They just don't like Steve Clark for other reasons than being a manager, but I like him. He's a thoroughly decent man. He got us to the European Championships, so let's get behind them, let's get behind the Scotland team. Hopefully, they can produce the performance we're looking for. A win would be amazing. I think a draw is more realistic. Let's see how it all unfolds. And then, of course, myself, Tom McManus, and H. McDonald will give you that after-match reaction to it. But it's all roads lead to Cologne, and let's get our fingers crossed, and let's get the voices being positive towards Steve Clark and the Scotland team. What do you think?

    I think you are being hard , Scotland are not a a massive footballing nation, to get to the Euro for the first time in decades is amazing and to play the host in the opening game is tough and understandable the looked like rabbits in the headlights facing a good ( not great )German side . Judge them on the next two defeats

    The worry has to be that 1 billion people globally watched Scotland and Clarke perform a Masterclass in Footballing tactical incompetence. The players were set up wrong, the strategy was wrong and the player selection was wrong. No wonder the players froze. I think the tanking our confidence took from that German massacre will be hard to overcome. Sorry but the Swiss will pump us and our humiliation will be complete. Clarke has to go

    I have nothing against Steve Clarke personally but the 5-4-1 makes me wanna puke. If we don't have good defenders why are we playing 5 of them?

  • @faddy24

    It's not even the fact that we lost, or even that we lost 5-1. It was the manner of the defeat, so tactically inept and Clarke seemed inflexible and clueless as to how to change it. Most of our players looked timid, even fearful. Not even a single shot at goal. I have lost a lot of confidence and belief in this team and it's coach. It will take a huge effort to turn this around.

      We have been leaking goals for the last 10 games. If Clarke had a plan b he would have employed it a long time ago. We played a 5-4-1 against Finland that should tell us all we need to know about Clarke's attacking intent. It has been obvious for a long time that the 5-4-1 isn't working.

      @faddy24 3 месяца назад

      @@fireblade2681 yes to some extent as teams have started to figure it out but also there are other factors like injuries, a loss of confidence and it's not just about the formation it's how you employ it, in terms of how high a press you have and the variation in attack. 5-4-1 doesn't have to be defensive all the time. In fact against Germany we fell between 2 stools , we didn't counter press them well and defensively we were not in a very low block, we were in no man's land somewhere in between and Germany saw the cracks, the gaps on the flanks and through the lines and ruthlessly exploited that, particulary in the 1st half. Toni Kroos was wearing slippers and a smoking jacket, orchestrating their attacks, we barely put a finger on him.

    This video sums the whole sorry mess up. We have not got players playing regular football, but all I've heard from our media and pundits all along, is that, and I qoute, WE HAVE PLAYERS PLAYING AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.

    You are not seeing the true picture here chief ! This latest debacle from our national team is 30 years in the making . Its Ally MacLeod without anyone selling carpets on tv . Its the entire gamut of Scottish football ...the entire production from top down which has caused this ! Where is the technical advances made in those 30 years ? Where is the advanced coaching methods designed to transform us to the next levels ? Where is the financial investment from the governing body ? Where is the bright evolution of our game ? Answers on the back of a postage stamp ! Its the SMSM doing an impression of an Ostrich ...the old head in the sand routine . As i said earlier ...the entire production is to blame ! No more freebies .....

    The man’s tactics are just pure trash….nothing changed in the team on the field at all……we knew we would get thumped by Germany as they are one of the best teams in the World….so try something different for the 1st game and then use that to take into the 2nd and 3rd games……so looks like a thumping again in the last 2 games….defending defending and defending isn’t going to work at this level

      Clarke very often makes Craig Levein look Guardiola like with all his ''defending defending & defending'' you speak of & he's NOT going to change that too much by Wednesday, if at all & most sadly the players are NOT going to be ANY better either when it comes to their overall individual & collective skill set & so for me Wednesday & Switzerland is ONLY all about where the players are mentally & what mental strength & resilience they have individually & collectively after a 5-1 total demolishment & where the Germans would have had far more difficult & intense internal training matches than the ''challenge'' they faced from us & last but not least, from who is it exactly, are our goal(s) going to come from & don't say Billy Gilmour!!!

      @HamishM22 Well for sure NONE of us knows, including shell - shocked Clarke, EXACTLY what Scotland it will be that turns up on Wednesday night against the Swiss, but we'll know after ten or fifteen minutes & so give Netflix a miss for the first fifteen minutes & then obviously if it is indeed the ''same old Scotland'' then back to Netflix !!!
