My nearly 6 months old Belgian beige Tervuren will down and I say YES when his elbows are fully on the floor but within seconds he flops to the side! Also when he’s off his place, when given the command to down or stand he walks towards me. How do I correct this?

Good video! After watching, I went through this exercise with my 3 adult huskies. It was fun and hilarious because all 3 provided different responses! The 'stand' command was the hardest, but they got it eventually. Thanks!

great video and explanation, thank you! i've just done this with my rescue puppy and she got it. her default from DOWN is SIT, but I am sure we'll get there. she learns so fast!

I have a new black stock coat GSD. Awesome temperament. Heels so nicely but has no idea what sit/stay/down mean. He loves chicken jerky💪🏼 lol We have some work to do! This method is working great on my 6 mth GSD male. Thank you!!

It's amazing to me how much the American Akita truly looks like a perfect mix between a German shepherd and a Japanese Akita
If you read about the breed after ww2 the japanese akitas came to usa and they implemented other breeds such as gsd mastiff and other breeds and that is now the american akita so yes they look and even are some percentage GSD 😂 I’ve had 2, and the first one was stubborn like super stubborn but this second one on my pic LOVES to learn and ofc there is some stubborness but truely not as much as the previous one, so my guessing is that there is a higher percentage of GSD or a working breed involved in the lines/ genetics of this one😃
@@ztnal399 oh yes I'm well aware of this. The American Akitas are mixed with German Shepherd that is how they founded the American Akita from my understanding
@@ztnal399 and exactly as you said, and Akita that is more willing to learn and be trainable definitely would have a higher percentage of German Shepherd. Hopefully working German Shepherd I don't know what kind of German Shepherds they used but in my opinion the working German Shepherd is the only true German Shepherd

I don’t know if you found your answer to this question, but I was wondering this too and this is what I found, hope this helps 😄
“It might seem easier to teach your dog to lay down from a sit position, but it will make this activity much harder in the long term. A dog can naturally and easily fold down into the down or drop position from standing. If you teach them to sit first, this is a more awkward movement for the dog to lay down, plus you will have to give them two commands, one to sit and the second to down. “
This is an excellent technique. I used it on my 5 year old dog too. It’s important to teach down from stand, not sit, then down. The “greater than” symbol is just the way to do it.
Why? I feel like I'm missing something.
@@NE_Pigeons what do you feel you’re missing? Why it’s important? In case this is why: it’s about teaching the dog their NATURAL body movements and to avoid extra steps. And not to have to get to “down” only from a sit.

Thanks for the video! I am a little stuck with the training of my 2,5 year old female Shiba Inu. She learned sit when she was a puppy, but I almost always have to use spatial pressure (take a step towards her) to make her obey , and with the down i never got past the luring phase (when lured with food she will slowly go into down, like the puppy in the video) 😕 I practiced a lot , but she doesn't improve and I'm about to give up... For the rest she is a well behaved dog, very respectful about the boundaries we give her, she has good social skills and with training her regularly we achieved a quite reliable recall , but the down just won't happen 😂 any tips? I'm a first time dog owner so I don't have much experience...
Hi Lisa. I don't know if you're still having this problem, but a solution would be for you to make a base one way, about 6 to 8 inches high. When she is on top, when you place the food parallel to the ground, she will be forced to leave to get the food, putting her head on the edge and lying down.
What age to you start to teach Belgium Malinois this?

String cheese works if your dog likes it, chicken, hot dogs even kibble if your dog will work for it. Size- think the size of your finger tip. Not very big.

American Akita. When they are relaxed their tails relax as well.
Would the same techniques work with an adult dog? Or would modifications be in order? I have a half Australian Cattle Dog and half Australian Kelpie I obtained through a rescue organization. She is very smart but has received very little training.
you can use the same approach with any age dog!

I have been looking at different breeds of dogs to get one. I am working from home permanently now and now us a good time. Akitas are beautiful and I really want one. Unfortunately, my dog experience consists of walking a poodle twice. My research of Akitas say the definitely aren't for first time owners. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good breed for first time owners?

@@camillahunt3247 Just make sure you find a solid breeder, decades of poor breeding have ruined many of the classics - Labs, Retrievers, German Shepherds etc. It's worth every second of research. btw, Cabral is one of the best you'll find on youtube.
@@chevy-is-a-good-boy I appreciate the advice. I recently found Robert and I really like his style. I plan on joining once I get my puppy. To be honest, I am very excited. I never had a dog and always wanted one.
It is actually a good idea to join the membership before you get the pup, so you have the time to watch the videos, I suggest the ask me anything videos to get a good sense of the overall mindset of training that he tries to get people to grasp. You are already on track to being a great dog owner! Keep it up!
