nope. its a job of respect. once the fight starts you bang it out. but before and after there is no real need. i mean, there are things during the fight that i could see causing bad blood, like purposely eye gouging of low blows. but in the normal fights we see its just a job.

Fedor had the most intimidating staredown of all. He just looked at his opponents with this "we both know you are already dead" look. Thompson isn't trying to intimidate, he's putting on a show for the Japanese fans. He did that Street Fighter posing once and they loved it, so it became his thing and probably got him some more fights than he would have otherwise gotten - he was a rather untrained fighter.

I watched a fight recently between Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard for the heavy weight boxing championship back in 1919. Before the fight they didn't just touch gloves they almost held hands. It lasted for several seconds before the fight. Jack Dempsey went on to destroy the current champion Jess Willard but after the fight congratulated Dempsey on his victory. No taunting by either side. No disrespect. No nothing. We could learn a lot from them.
