Omg! My husband found me in this video. I was just 10 or 11 years old with my classmates, Aunty Diana Aki & Aunty Mona Kahele at Pu'u Honua O' Honaunau. Great childhood memories ❤ love it 😊

Beautiful video. Our 1st tripto the Big Island was 1984. We spent just one week. We came back in 1985 & spent 3 weeks. We loved Holualoa & I bought a Lauhala hat made by a local tutu which I still have. I also bought a Boone Morrison photo & a Kathy Long print. We heard Uncle George Naope
at his venue in a Kona hotel. He made a big impression on both of us. We went to Merrie Monarch for the first time in 1986 & now we watch it on K5 streaming. Wouldn't miss it. It is 2025 & we are as hooked on Hawaiian culture as ever. Mahalo for running this.

Lived on Big Island, Hilo+Puna side '88-2005. Spent lots of great times on Kona side too. Hapuna, 69 beach, City of Refuge, Magic Sands, Keahou Beach Hotel( lots of great bands played there) so many memories. Aloha Nui Loa.

How about an update 2023. Much of course has changed so this is a good history video.

Mahalo nui loa to King David Kalakaua for allowing hula to remain and flourish, since the missionaries and even King Kamehameha were attempting to ban hula, a very important aspect of Hawaiian culture. The flourishing Merrie Monarch hula festival held in Hilo, Hawaii was named after King Kalakaua. Because of his enthusiasm in preserving hula. Aloha
