Ray, Have you ever thought about using velcro strips, like those used by gardeners to support stems or train branches, to help secure flexible cables or hoses out of the way by binding them to other structures? This is the reason why I gave up on car maintenance. What takes an experienced and ethical mechanic one video, is a 3-4 day job for anyone else. Good job Ray!
The trans cooler inside the rad cracking letting coolant into the trans is the #1 killer of old Neons/PTs, so a fresh rad from an external leak is a good thing
And oh yeah, that PT Cruiser looks like a pain in the A to work on. I'm amazed you can remember where all the bolts and connectors go. Keep up the good work Ray.

I wish there was a Ray in my area. I seriously thinking bout driving my car there and let Ray do a mod w extra fee for owner custom parts while down w extended family vacation. Great work Ray
Ray, you are unbelievable. Most shops would have told the customer that the car needs to go to the dealership. For the most part, auto shops want to "pick the low hanging fruit," and not get involved in these kind of repairs! You are one in a million! Damn, I wish you were near me! Thanks for the videos!
I had a PT Cruiser. (3 of them actually and I still have one. 2003 Woody Turbo with 64k original miles) I had the radiator changed out within 2.5 hours but also had to then change the thermostat because it was stuck closed. but, not too bad of a job. Although I did not remove the intake at all. I took off most of the front grill and bumper and went that route and it was easy enough.
Ray I like the longer videos. I realize it might be more of a pain to make but I enjoy them. Your doing a great job. Start my mornings off watching your upload.
It's refreshing to see Ray get an easy job come into the shop every once in a while, "NOT". Who is the radiator placement design engineer did you piss off Ray? Dang it's a good thing you didn't have disassemble the entire car to remove the radiator. You sir a master mechanic, how refreshing to see one work, thanks from all of us 1/2 million subscribers.
I was with you on those bubbles. First thought in my mind was head gasket also. After seeing the drip I also realized the bottom tanks on these "newer" radiators have a tendency to leak after some time.
it is totally natural to be annoyed when in pain. The fact that you are able to identify what is the true core of your discontent and maintain professional composure is admirable.
One of our 'family sayings' is: "Pain lets you know you're still alive." - Some others: "Don't bleed on the carpet." "Coulda, shoulda, woulda, but didn't." "If horses could fly we'd need better umbrellas." And our favorite - "Don't tell mom."
Hey Ray, these clip clamps are easy to remove, use a thin flathead screwdriver, put in the “ear”, push forward and wiggle left and right, the pinched part of the clip bends open and it just clicks loose.
I'm not a motor mechanic but as a mechanical engineer I can really appreciate your work. your knowledge of motor mechanics is awesome and you are able to convey that knowledge to others in a clear and concise way. keep up the good work, good luck with the future and Merry Christmas.
I remember a Ford tech a while ago, the first step to replace the front engine cover, was to remove the driveshaft, since the engine oil pan needed to be removed to get two bolts, which required the trans to be dropped, all for a $20 serpentine belt that broke and sheared a piece of plastic.
Heavymetal Christmas music made you angry? lol That is charming and funny all at the same time. Love your humor. I think working on PT cruisers are a nightmare in general. Love to you and the family.
As an owner of a PT Cruiser, this video does hit my reward center. Nice to see different ways to approach these repairs. On mine I removed the front grille and support bars to get to the radiator and it seems like there were less steps than all this. Next summer I may be back in for an ac compressor change and will remove the front to get to it all.

New Guru of the local PT cult? Is that necessarily a bad thing? I’d say they’re cash is as good as anyones. If a/c work and radiators is all these ever need, maybe they aren’t too bad! (edit: their… dang auto correct!)
Me and my dad work for our selfs on mostly tractors and farm equipment but love watching your videos learn a lot about the vehicle side of things from you 👍
Done my share of PT Cruiser rads and condensers and never had to pull the intake. I pull the top of the core support and the bumper cover and beat flag every time.
You reminded me of a recent job I did, I found out the hard way that the "new" required yellow antifreeze that Ford says to replace the old with will remove paint from the truck. I was surprised to see the paint blister and soften. Just thought I would mention this to save others from learning the hard way.

Thank you for changing the station. I also noticed that the heavy metal station was getting on my nerves due to mismatched energy levels. Thanks again. Good job.

Ray, I don't know how you can endure the frustration that manages to come along with a job like this. You have to take so many parts off to get to the key part. My hats off to you.
If you work on cars long enough you will get frustrated guaranteed
It's the same satisfaction that you get when you solve a puzzle.
Ray, great as usual, enjoy the commentary it’s like training step by step. Praying for you and the family that God bless and watch over you.
Best car repair soundttrack ever. We wish you a Metal Xmas.
Dio at 10:45. Carlos Carvazo, Silver Bells at 12:20.
hope you are feeling a bit beter today Ray
When I saw that radiator wasn't completely the same, I thought that leaving the rad support loose until the fan was in might have helped but you got it anyway. Well done. As with most auto stuff, there is frequently more than one path to the goal. In addition, remember that the vast majority of those viewing this channel greatly appreciate your efforts at providing an education for us and would never disrespect you or your methods which are born out of experience. Don't let the others bring you down.
You know you have reached Car God status when feeling the head of an unseen bolt and know the size. Totally cool.
I am absolutely in awe of Ray’s vast store of knowledge, his uncanny mechanical abilities and last, but certainly not least, his winning personality and demeanor. I am not at all mechanically inclined, but I really enjoy watching Ray perform his magic.
There’s a reason why he’s got close half million subscribers, and counting.

Sub count doesn’t mean someone is right/wrong
I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you and please take care of yourself. I see nothing wrong with your idea of releasing videos early
Thanks for showing us how to get it done with a positive attitude that never goes out of style.
Hi Ray, another great video. I was expecting to see the front wheels have to come off!!
Having read some of the other comments below t is heart warming to see the amount of people who stand by your decision about when and where to release your video's.
This dude cracks me up 😆 🤣 just acts like a backyard mechanic and always being serious..makes watching the videos enjoyable keep it up bud..reminds me when I'm in my garage wrenching 👍
Don’t beat yourself up Ray, you can not please everyone, just a shame the haters have nothing better to do with their time! You do a brilliant job of entertaining us every day! Best of luck and best wishes for the festive season for you and your family!!
This is the reason why I gave up on car maintenance. What takes an experienced and ethical mechanic one video, is a 3-4 day job for anyone else. Good job Ray!
Man you are one lucky dog Ray, getting all the PT Cruisers. I think you should specialize in them.
You have to be a special kind of Sadist to wish that on Ray. LOL
As always, the videos get better as time goes on. Always the desire to do the best work possible. The bigger the challenge is to you, the higher you step up your game. Still the best videos on You Tube. Keep on Dirty Maxing. Click!!!
Ray, don’t let people upset you!
When you deal with the public
you can’t please everybody
no matter how hard you try
You’re a great technician!
Enjoy the holidays and don’t worry
Patience is what makes a great mechanic.
Don't forget to fasten the external temperature sensor before you put the grill back on, Ray! 😉
that intake is so carboned up, it's amazing the thing even runs
Some days I watch your videos and think to myself maybe I should knock the rust off my tools and go back to turning wrenches, and then I watch a job like this, and I'm reminded why I hung them up in the first place.
The struggle is real, and I'm having PT Cruiser Anxieties Ray!!!
I don't need notification, I just check your RUclips page every day! Do what you feel is right and ignore the looser haters. You are naturally fun to watch and learn from.
I wish there was a Ray in my area. I seriously thinking bout driving my car there and let Ray do a mod w extra fee for owner custom parts while down w extended family vacation. Great work Ray
Ray just run your channel the way you want. If there folks don’t like it. Oh well.Your videos are awesome.
Hence the multiple pt cruisers lol his specialty is Patience!
Hi Ray, Don't forget the ground wire on the front of the radiator. Super proud of your patience. Great Job!
Thanks ray, am about to eat my Lunch, so now ive got something to watch during eating my lunch 😄
An hour long video? Hold on, I'm going to get snacks 😂
Ray, I can honestly say that you have made me a calmer mechanic than my previous years. Thank you from the bottom of my anxiety!
For Christmas I just want Chryslers explanation for those damn red clips.
One of our 'family sayings' is: "Pain lets you know you're still alive."
-
Some others:
"Don't bleed on the carpet."
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda, but didn't."
"If horses could fly we'd need better umbrellas."
And our favorite - "Don't tell mom."
Former FBI (old timer) here. You are one of the best detectives I’ve ever studied under. Everything’s a puzzle.
I thought for sure at some point the rear tail lights would have to be removed.
I remember a Ford tech a while ago, the first step to replace the front engine cover, was to remove the driveshaft, since the engine oil pan needed to be removed to get two bolts, which required the trans to be dropped, all for a $20 serpentine belt that broke and sheared a piece of plastic.
@@bloodbull123 --It takes Patience to be a Modern Day Mechanic, I am Old School Man, No Patience...
Heavymetal Christmas music made you angry? lol That is charming and funny all at the same time. Love your humor. I think working on PT cruisers are a nightmare in general. Love to you and the family.
Like the POV view. I can vicariously put myself behind the wrenching.
Watching this on a sunny Saturday morning with great coffee. Great way to start the day. Thanks.
Ray this is the best channel on RUclips, dont worry about the morons just keeping doing what you always do 👍
Be careful Ray. You're running the risk of becoming the PT Cruiser whisperer. 😆
Ray.....we LOVE you here. Keep doing what you do. Haters can F$&K oFF. GO RAY, WIFE UNIT, and Little UNITS!!!
What haters?
I remember doing the alternator on mine in the driveway in the middle of winter.... that was fun. 😄
Jim, I like your Way the Best...
Ya gotta love them Pt s Done timing belts water pumps changed motors another day of wrenchin Y'all have a good day got 44 yrs in
Ray's becoming the PT cruiser specialist... Don't let the word get out too much or you'll be totally inundated with them. Great patience. Can't wait to see the part with the torque mount 😁 Greetings from Lake City 😎😎😎🌴🌴🌴🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
NO way I would want that if I was him. Variety is the spice of life.
They're poop, but you know what plumbers say about working with poop- "Smells like money."
Amen! I own 5 PTs and have never removed an intake to change a radiator. I don't remove the bumper cover either but it could help.
You reminded me of a recent job I did, I found out the hard way that the "new" required yellow antifreeze that Ford says to replace the old with will remove paint from the truck. I was surprised to see the paint blister and soften. Just thought I would mention this to save others from learning the hard way.
Ray we love you and thank you for your videos, even if you took a pt bruiser apart not to long ago! Keep up the good work!
44:30 I was gonna say, not a fan of the Xmas music as well but didn’t wanna be the grinch who stole Christmas lol.
Thank you for changing the station. I also noticed that the heavy metal station was getting on my nerves due to mismatched energy levels. Thanks again. Good job.
Little known trick here...if you want to force the cooling fans to run just activate the air conditioner. Sometimes they have a separate fan for this but if not it helps you troubleshoot.
Love the Christmas music in the beginning! And remember... With this car, say "Please"
I just want to say I stumbled onto your channel a little while back, and I have enjoyed every video I've watched since.
I am usually a bumbling buffoon when it comes to working on my vehicles, but I always manage in the end.
Your videos have shown me that even if I am not having a good time, if I remain patient I will make it through.
Thank you!
I’ve learned from Ray to just keep moving forward and take my time. This applies to so many different projects. I’m a quilter and artist and I do DIY projects. I’ve learned so much from Rays attitude. Thank you!
