Got Rachel’s book! Wonderful! I was surprised that you only eat the bulbils and not the roots of the Chinese yam! I skin the roots wearing gloves (it can irritate your skin). I chop the mucilage rich roots into small chunks. Purée in the food processor. I don’t add any other ingredients. I make waffles and yam pancakes with the purée. They are fantastic! They also freeze well so this is how I store them. Love you all!
Dang it David, that lizard made me spray coffee everywhere! I had to stop the video and clean up the mess WE made. I said, "we" because you caused it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (my very own tropical storm of coffee!)
You are correct, we are in south Georgia and we have two seasons and I. The summer we just let it go. Past few weeks we finally started cleaning up the garden for the fall
the grocery row garden looks great! I left my cassava in too long and it rotted, but I have come to enjoy my cassava trees as ornamentals ironically lol
Your child's photo bomb was hilarious! I had to rewind to show my daughter what I was laughing about. She said it scared her until she realized what it was and started laughing too.
Beautiful harvest! You just reminded me of how poor my Haitian soil still is. My sweet potatoes will grow greens but few scraggly roots. My cassava can get like yours but it takes a long time. One day we'll get there, Lord willing.
The untrained Eye would NOT notice my living Food pantry. I have moringa, cassava, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, UBE, Taro, ginger, turmeric, and various types of edible ground cover and weed like leafy greens. PLUS the obvious climbing beans, squash, pumpkins, banana, papaya and fruit trees of Delandan, Guava, mango, and coconuts. There is NO obvious ROWS or organized Look, but we have more food than we can eat growing year round here on the KITAKITZ FARM
It's okay - the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church through the power of the Holy Spirit has authoritatively declared Sunday the Lord's Day, which is why we hold our events on Saturday. I must attend Church on Sunday, and a Saturday Sabbath is no longer required.
Aloha! Would love a video on how you prepare your cassava. I tried to make “mashed potatoes” with it and it was just horrible, HA!This morning I pulled about 50/55 lbs from the garden and you’re right about the roots growing much larger here, I only pulled up 3 stems about the size of yours.
I did an ignored garden this year. Didn’t water didn’t plant potatoes but I had a pretty good harvest. I had an accident involving my foot and couldn’t really walk so I’m pleased with the production
I do the same except I do watering during a drought. Mostly I just water bananas and the crops around them do well. I want to know what thrives with neglect in my climate so I have more time for construction chores.
Ah I totally forgot about etsy , thanks brother! Plants are "handmade" ! I will totally order from your daughter too , you awesome and helpful and there are sooo many bad plant sellers out there I just started plants on ebay and im getting amazing reviews bc people are so used to the unhealthy rootless micro plants that you often get online. I dont wanna shoot myself in the foot but make sure she got musa pups on there!
I have to harvest my ginger before the frost. There's no way it will survive in ground in East TN. My Vietnamese friends harvest it immature and just crush it up and use it fresh. I have a pot that will get brought inside for the Winter along with a purple sweet potato plant. They didn't produce well, so I'm attempting to have 'slips' to plant for next year off the overwintered plant.
My sweet potato vines are going to the deer. And the deer. And oh yeah the deer. 😑 I've long said i couldn't be a hunter because I just want to hang out with animal bros but I'm seriously considering having a freezer full of venison.
2:08 I’ve been planting sweet potatoes like crazy 🍠 just for organic matter in and on the soil! I got a spot to eat though to trailing up the house! Where you posted up now days? Your place is coming to gather great!
My purple sweet potatoes have started growing and sending up slips! I only dug down to one set of new slips but I don't know if I should dig up the whole bed in a panic or just let them grow and find out what's under the ground in November.😅
I got stung by a wooly bear... it curled into a circle on my flat open palm and flexed... when it flexed it was like every hair touching my skin left a sting. My hand swole up for two days and itched for a week
The cassava from You looks beautiful in my garden ❤ @ 9:45 that "lizard " was very funny 😂 Are those fig trees produce any? my only 3 years old. no signs of fruit yet.
I've got some land now in the Japanese countryside (1.5 hectares). But the biggest problem is going to be wild boar. I've already encountered one while farming. I checked and this is also a problem for Alabama too. I'm just wondering what David or anybody else is doing about that. One simple solution is to grow things like onions, leeks, garlic, peppers and daikon because they don't seem to eat these things. But I want to grow potatoes, sweetcorn and sweet potatoes - and boars love that kind of food. What I'd really like to do is get some kind of wolf dog and keep it on the land but I don't know if there are such dogs. I'm not into hunting them and the traps seem expensive. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
David I am curious, is that DJI Osmo Pocket Camera, that you've been using to making these videos? . . Been following you since Covid. Keep these videos coming. God bless you and your family
About to get out and add to my forest after your video. Gonna add a cold hardy avocado("fantastic" variety) against a tree line and a few olive trees along the driveway. So many things to plant but I've definitely suffered analysis paralysis. Probably have 20 plus trees to put in from ginko to Texas persimmon. Just dodged that hurricane. Thanks for your prayers! Would have possibly been a home destroyer for us in a trailer. Hope those that suffered it receive some blessings too. Devasted the coast line along Western Florida up to past the bend a bit.
@@davidthegood interesting 😃👍 So, the garden is not your major income as a Family. I just wondered because it seems to be way more productive as a single family is able to eat. Anyway, thank you so very much for the contend you do share. It is really inspiring for me to change the way of treating the little space that I am blessed to be able to work with. Thanks a lot! Hello, I'm reaching out to you because I'm starting a project called the Highways and Hedges Initiative of Mississippi. The goal is to petition for food forests to become a common practice along highways, hedges, and other available spaces. We're also looking for individuals who are willing to donate their lawns or for organizations, such as churches, that may want to offer space for these food forests. This initiative is about fostering sustainable practices and improving food security across the state. I’d love to have your support or discuss how to get this kind of gardening a world wide consensus.
Well that is the best way to get views. That is the goal of posting a video on RUclips. Shooting and editing videos is very time consuming and he is hoping for a good return on his time. Makes good business sense

Thank you. Often, the roots go very deep and we just leave them alone and eat the bulbils instead.

I see machete I like, for I am a simple man.
I've been wanting to come to scrub fest since the first one but they're always on Sabbath so sadly we cannot come.

It is hard to make everyone happy, too. I must worship on Sunday, and weekdays are hard because people work.
@@davidthegood the Catholic Church is more powerful than the creator of the universe? He said Saturday is the Sabbath and the day his people rest.
❤❤❤Very nice harvest!!!
We wait for 6 months before harvesting cassavas. The one you pulled looks half way.
Ps. What a great sweet potato harvest ❤
Yeah it could of waited another month until the end of October/November
This one was already over a year old, and had grown back. I think the wind damaged the original roots last year.
@@davidthegoodohh...that's too bad.

Those black walnut trees have a serious taproot, one that size is gonna need a pretty big excavation to get enough of it to live (IMO).

Nice sweet potatoes! Not impressed with the cassava, plant more sweet potatoes 🤣
When you chop sweet potato vines like that does that mean you're leaving some tubers behind?
Not usually. Most worthwhile tubers are at the base.

No fleas or ticks here. Fire ants we work around. Sometimes get them with Amdro.
