- On a deep research about robotics and animation, I decided to interview the legends in these 2 dance styles/techniques and asked their history and their perspectives on explanations and definitions. As these 2 styles/techniques were being created in era where there was no recordings, no internet, there has been many names for the same techniques, or the techniques changed over time, or there's many variations of the same thing etc all depending on what location you were at. In that era, everyone was doing what looked THE BEST, what was HOT, and was was appealing to the audience. They didn't care if you knew the names, or techniques, they cared about your purity and incredible moments and visuals. Naturally, all the legends have a bit different definitions of these techniques, so all we can do is to sit back, listen and analyze for ourselves.

Excellent interview. In the beginning, when he said you don't have to know the inspiration, history, etc. Not knowing, not having knowledge available, or not knowing the culture/history of why it happened is why appropriation happens so much in the U.S.A. From the cake walk, to swing, to mambo, to jazz, to rock & roll, to .....

Thank you for posting this! Andre demonstrates not only his technical skills, but also a deep understanding of concepts. He's IMO the best performer in the [P/B]opping scene because of his ability to convey emotions through his art. Feeling humbled right now.

Well, for years I just clumped everything under the same term 'Popping', and only now am I comping to realize there's Bopping, Animation, and other genres. I've always loved popping, but I think that Bopping and, especially, Animation have overtaken it in terms of the effects I really like to see. And, honestly, when you guys started talking about Animation vs Dancing Animation, I totally hooked. Up until today I thought of animation as a human moving in a way that makes them look, not human, alien, mannequin, robot, cyborg etc, but I never thought about Andre's example, even taking a normally inanimate object and making it move in a way you wouldn't normally expect it to. And then bringing it back to the fact that humans 'are' animated, but in the dance you are trying to look like a normally inanimate object trying to make itself look as though it's trying to be be real, through animation. Wow, That completely blew my mind. This was a fascinating exchange.

It's wrong information to say it's a secret. There are already many interviews of EB members. Pete said that a lot. Boogaloo Sam found a way to pop and showed it to him.
And one thing to keep in mind before we watch this video is that Andre isn't the first person to make or show the ticking or the various basic things that are mentioned in the video.
Of course, there's a difference in ways that there's a lot of people at the time, but what's certain is that Andre isn't the first person to show it.
So what Andre says is the way he thinks and does it, but it isn't everyone must to follow.
For example, the first dancer to show "ticking" was an EB member.
And EB was the biggest influence in promoting "ticking."
If think about it, might think that EB's "ticking" is a right way.

EB ticking is hitting in sections on each count of 1 2 3 4 usually while doing some fluid motion like walking.
See GO UEKI or Skeeter Rabbit for great examples of that.
"Oldschool" ticking or what most people born before 1995 imagine when you say "ticking" is what Playboy Eddie and Ricki Onodera from Hamutsun Serve do a lot.
Flattop's technique can also be classed as "ticking" but it's also known as strobing.
Why he clown her " Specializes" ha! ha! Smh Andre really is being techinical but actually showing the complexity and levels of animation and botting. The enteresting thing is coming from that era i understand what animating is ftom the jump because im an artist so is Andre. So learning about characters n how to animate them from film n movies you study the process because it is truly amazing!!!! Cool interview my first time seeing this!!! Whats funny is i do remember the bounce and the puppet like movement. I thought they was doing what looked the puppet or scarecrow! I have a homeboy that still can do one arm style ha! ha!
