  • Clarinetist and editor Graeme Steele Johnson speaks with David Plylar about the manuscript score and parts of Charles Martin Loeffler's Octet, held at the Library of Congress. Johnson edited the music to make a modern edition of the piece, which may not have been performed in the 127 years since its premiere until Johnson's ensemble began touring with it this year. Johnson describes his rationale for editorial decisions as they look closely at the manuscript and parts, seeing how those primary sources could be realized in a modern performing edition.
