  • Hi friends! In today's video, we're diving into six watercolor techniques to create beautiful skies and clouds. These techniques are perfect for adding depth and interest to your landscapes. Whether you're a beginner or looking to expand your skills, you'll find plenty of inspiration here!
We'll start with practice exercises using rough watercolor paper (I'm using Arteza 100% cotton paper, repurposed from another painting). Grab your watercolour sketchbook or any practice paper to follow along as we experiment with these techniques before applying them to three stunning sky paintings.
    Here's what we'll cover:
    Blending
    Lifting
    Water Drops
    Dropping in Color
    Salt
    Splatter
These techniques aren't just for skies-you can use them for flowers, snow, abstracts, and more! For this tutorial, we'll focus on how they enhance skies.
I'll guide you step by step, using a Princeton Neptune Round Brush #8 and a soft color palette, including:
    A rosy pink for sunsets
A warm yellow (like ochre) for golden tones
A cobalt blue for soft sky hues
We'll explore how to blend colors using wet-on-dry techniques and bring your skies to life. Let's paint together and create something beautiful!

I'm so sorry for the terrible sound in the beginning, I realised too late I was recording through the wrong Microphone! The second half is much better!

We never got to see the final result on either painting where you used the salt technique.
