Basically rode barely any waves this session, sets unpaddleable in my opinion, towing was Russel Bierk, Conor Maguire, Ollie Oflahrty Absolutely sending it, they did offer me rope if you were wondering, i declined to tow, just wasnt feeling it, almost no waves were made so just made a decision to not push at this time, sometimes gotta listen to the gut! Hope you guys enjoy!
Dude, love the POV! That's seriously the most treacherous undertow I've ever seen as longtime lifeguard, wow! Props my friend, and keep them coming!!! You guys are brave souls indeed!
@Samm Salvey think he is referring to the draw of the wave off the reef, and how the sets are pushing whitewater back out the back after they slam the reef. I would assume you could get hammered on the take off and be pulled/sent right out the back into the next set.
Can't tell you how great it is to get this perspective--just how gnarly, scary and sometime simply unmakeable it can be. Even for the likes of NF! Seriously, thanks so much
Hell yeah! There is SO much more to surfing than actually riding a wave. This is awesome Nate. Just loving a chance to share your experience out in that incredible environment!!!
1:40 I love the paddling POV parts. Especially in cold water. Having grown up in the northeast and most of my surfing being done in cold water, New Hampshire in the winter, this reminds me of the commitment and-yes-pain we go through to paddle out in freezing conditions to enjoy the ocean’s gift.
Looked like a real tricky wave. Nice ride. When I wear glove I use the webbed finger gloves. They give you a great push when entering the wave with the double stroke.
This channel is such a good antidote to the constant stream of garbage and negativity I see on social media. Sometimes it just gets to you, ya know? Doing god's work mate! Come to Australia soon if you can! Or wait til winter actually for proper surf
Funny. It's all relative to each surfer's individual experience yet the sentiments are the same. Those holy sht moments just come to each of us at different levels. That's it.
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU AND WHAT YOU DO NATE DAWG FLORENCE. YOU INSPIRE ME MORE AND MORE EACH TIME YOU DROP A NEW VID AND WHEN I RE WATCH OLD ONES. THANK YOU BROTHER
Siick...feel the butterflies in my stomach reminiscent of paddling out to a new-to-me break in the PNW. Hey wondering about incorporating the "ok" check they use for kayaking. Two taps on the head then thumb up to ask "OK?" response is the same as the question if all is OK. Good communication process in the chaos when words are challenging or muffled.
That's the most insane footage you ever uploaded i could watch these raw footages and paddle outs for days ! thanks you so much Nathan and feel free to release the uncut version if you have it, i think everybody here would be more than please to watch the full raw footage. This spot looks even more brutal than chopes + super cold water, size of the lip and super shallow bottom makes scary as fuck ! I don't know how even manage the drop without Ski's speed. Does jet ski proposed you to tow in without straps or they where only training the 2 of them ?
This spot is just five minutes away from where I live in Ireland it’s near a village called doonbeg so sick seeing it on this channel, so terrifying too.
The mouth cam is interesting guess the POV is necessary. To bad about not feeling the sets. Ive done the same, time to go not feeling the pounders. Maybe another day with different swell and tide. Enjoyed the video
This captures the cold water surfing so many of us love, the dusky cold sky, the frozen pounding water, gasping for air between sets, numb hands and smiles for miles.. You wouldn't catch me out on this slab though, no thanks!
Its a matter of pulling off early enough. Notice he started to pull back before the wave reached him, if he'd given it just 1 or 2 more paddles he woulda been over.
THIS IS SO CRAZY AWESOME!!!! It may not be the session of your dreams but I can feel the power of the sea in the footage and it's INCREDIBLE! The momentum of the shoulder shots still find my stomach in my throat Egbert single time. TERRIFIC share. 🌊🤙💙
2:16 Mixing Video with Real Audio of the Wave explotion its amazing! hope gopro or alternatives keep developing the audio part of it to make it more inmersive experience (Sorry, not english native), and im enjoying a lot your work, congratulations!
10:43 Caught by a double overhead slab and getting tumbled over the reef, coming back up to see the lip of the next wave about to hit your head. Nathan: "Doing good? 👍"
I love these videos, showing the truth of it out there, as I read in other comments, surfing is so much more than just riding the wave. Good for you on trusting your gut and excellent that you upload these vids and not just the super mega awesome perfect wave count in perfect conditions days. Keep it going, really respect and admire you for this
Knowing you are going to take that slab on your head and several more after it before you can get out of the impact zone and yet... Still dropping in. Absolutely awesome!!!
Ryley's is soooo dangerous slab, it is usually more suitable for bodyboard as the take off is easier. Fergal Smith, an ex pro big wave surfer sometimes surfs there with a BB to fully enjoy the wave
Hi Nathan, super difficult waves... I think that what complicates everything is a fat swimsuit, booties, cap, did it cost you?...I live in the south of France and the winter is hard, and to catch strong waves, it costs a lot. The prize comes if you make a trip, you go like a motorcycle, in my case I go to Gran Canaria in 15 days and there I surf in swimsuit and lycra or a little jacket if it is windy.... do you want to catch the fronton? I'll be fine with the lloret....😊
@@janoschlebon3693 yes, thanks!! Tenerife is a bit colder than Gran Canaria, but taking off my 4/3 flash bom that catches a lot of wet weight, and switching to a swimsuit and at most a jacket is a great experience. Let's see if I'm lucky like last year, we had 2 strong swells and every day waves. One day I surfed the wall of lloret in the morning and in the afternoon waves in the lighthouse, it looked like the gold coast...

Hell yeah! There is SO much more to surfing than actually riding a wave. This is awesome Nate. Just loving a chance to share your experience out in that incredible environment!!!
Surfing an unfamiliar wave takes time, you have to feel it out first before catching one, an under appreciated process
Legend! Surfing this wave as a regular footer is not easy!
Very cool at the end when you check on the guy that wiped out and was caught inside. Thanks for showing us the POV on these Far North slabs.
The sound of that wave cracking on that slab is stomach turning at the very least Thanks for sharing my friend 👍🤙
Looked like a real tricky wave. Nice ride. When I wear glove I use the webbed finger gloves. They give you a great push when entering the wave with the double stroke.
The fact you actually went and made that first drop your 1st surf, was hero status. This mutant doesn't look like it wants to be paddled lol.

This is how I view 2-3 foot waves. Still scary even after 3 years of surfing.

Slab City style , Salton Sea waves. Great video

Nate do you put rainX on the GoPro lens? What is the secret to no water droplets. PS this video is just insane

Rock Solid Content again
Out the back in no time
Hoooooooly shit that wave is fucked up

Scary.
9:39 how did he just pop out the back like that? I'd have been spun around n around then stuck in the break zone.
TBH i would be saying " I want my Mommy" in a lot of the heavy places you surf "Respect"

Holy Shit that thing is a mutant

A bird's eye view on paddling out on this slab. Watch the local bodyboarders.....
He probably speaks Anglo Balumba
How do you recover from sessions like that? Hot tea, pancakes, and do nothing? 😊
Big bowl of seafood chowder and pints of stout by the fire.
The paddle out was dangerous enough.Dredging water off that rock shelf moving 20 mph. Huge Tide changes...
Death barrel
That entry was sketch!

if dudes are paddling ? fuck off on the skis . House Rules :)
Wow, that was truly painful to watch.
looks like a bad place to get caught inside
Dear John . Please don’t down surfing the uk because mostly it’s reef

..ears get sore just watching..freezing cold
It's like chopes little brother but freezing cold
The explosion of the waves seen and heard from behind is insane
This is my favorite surf channel. No nonsense i.e. pink hair, psych counters, crappy music, etc...just good surf/surfing. Keep it up, bro!
It must be mental if the only waves Nathan got were both floggings.
These raw vids are gold!!
Thanks for carrying us all safely in your mouth. So gentle, like a sea horse.

the little hesitation before going on at the beggining, the rest of a small piece of brain warning you that maybe..it is not a good idea LOL
