When a US Navy Warship Flew Captain America Flag In 2019

  • On December 6, 2019, The USS America, armed with F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters, arrived in Japan to begin serving the 7th Fleet as the group's flagship. The battle flag with Captain America's famous red, blue, and white shield caught the eye of the public. The first of a brand-new class of amphibious assault ships and the fourth warship to bear the name America is the USS America LHA-6. For this first-in-class fifth-generation amphibious assault ship, the First Avenger, the famous Captain America insignia, was an ideal choice. The patriotic supersoldier Captain America, whose real name is Steve Rogers, battled the Axis Forces in the vast Marvel Comics universe before being frozen in ice and emerging in the modern day. The flag's design was strong, visual, and clearly associated with the term America, according to the USS America's commanding officer. A 74-gun ship of the line, the first purchased for the Continental Navy, was the first US naval ship to carry the name "America". The name was later given to a troop transport vessel in World War I, and then to the aircraft carrier of the Kitty Hawk class.

I was on 378-ft high endurance cutter. When I was in the Coast Guard. It had two diesels and two turbine engines. We often did ops with other organizations and the Navy etc.
We would generally operate in diesel mode with the turbines warmed up on standby.
As we were waving our goodbyes and signing off and preparing to leave the area we would pop a large flag that had Wile E Coyote holding the Roadrunner by its neck with the words "BEEP BEEP MY A$$" across it.
While the other unit would look at it and wonder, we'd shift to turbines and the bridge would order, "all head full; hard right runner".
Those turbines would WHINE and the props would DIG IN. We'd practically LEAP forward and we'd leave a rooster tail that was MAGNIFICENT behind, oftentimes across the bow of some unsuspecting naval unit.
Hamilton class high endurance cutters: prettiest boats out there!!

Heck the XO of the San Jose got drunk in subic stole a car and chased by shore patrol base police...guys on the ship refuse to admit it happening and I was messenger of the watch that afternoon...but I will research for facts and will post it.

    • @geographyRyan

Drop and forget it as soon as possible. What had George Washington or A. Lincoln to do with airplanes or air force?! Already the CVA(N)-65 should have received the name of Ely!! NO PRESIDENT, NO SECRETARY, NO LIVING SENATE MEMBER, NO COOK KILLED, BURNED OR FROZEN - ARE MORE WORTH A CARRIER THAN E B ELY IS! AND TO HELL WITH 'CONVENTIONS'. ♍
