love your philosophies mate, too many people get caught up in how they look and that is really the reason they go to the gym, not to actually get healthy, or that is secondary to 'looking good' thanks for the video
Oh my god mike, ur videos are amazing really, ive watched hundreds of boxing tutorals, honestly speaking, urs were the best!!!, with this 15 rounds workout, u saved my time! Usually i spent nearly 3 hrs at the gym doing this type of workouts, now i can spend only 1 hr!!!! Mike we need a tutorial how to condition ur body for boxing!!! It woukd be a great idea, such as lets doing 30 pushups+ 30 squats etc
Thank you for the great comment; Great idea; I have some videos that I will be posting in the next few weeks, showing some workouts done from a home gym and then i will also do some boxing specific strength and conditioning routines. thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment : )
thanks for the reply mike : ) i was thinking if u did some specific exercises that can be done in 1 hour only! like strengthening exercises made specifically for boxing, this would be a great idea, so the total workout would be only 2 hrs lets say, the 1st hr is for strengthening and conditioning, the 2nd hr is the one that u post in this video up. u can save plenty of time for many people bro!! and u can post like a full schedule. this would be the best workout made specifically for boxing in youtube ever: )
Thats a great idea and great minds think alike because i was planning on doing the exact same thing. Most pro boxers break up their boxing training and their strength and conditioning routines into 2 separate workouts for that day...but i can definitely combine them together for people to save time. When you see that video posted in the net month or so...you will know it was your great idea : ) Thanks
Another fantastic training video, I am just getting into the boxing-for-fitness space and find your simple and patient explanations really helpful! Thanks, man!
Thank you for trying it out....and don't worry you will find that you will get used to it in time....and ill have to make a more advanced video for you : )
Hallo Mike. Thank you for your Videos. I learned very much with you coaching videos, and now I am able to build an efficent Workout in my home gym. Respect for you and your job. 🥊
very informative! thanks! I have the heavy bag and a row machine for cardio and I love hitting the bag but never new how to use it properly within the frame of the workout. This is a great hour long workout to do with it!! my cardio just got more fun!!
Mike you are killing me! I just started doing your 10 round double end bag routine . This one looks awesome ,I will probably nix the jump rope and just do shadow boxing, kills my knees. Going to try to work this in twice a week.
You are absolutely making the right choice, if you have any trouble with your knees at all then definitely ditch the jump rope and do the shadow boxing instead. It's always great to mix things up. Some times i will do the 10 rounds on the double-ended bag, sometimes only the heavy bag or even simply the shadow boxing for 10 rounds. I find that just having the variety makes it all sooo much easier. I hope your training is going well : )
Ive lost 117lbs so far, things are going good. Just tried your 10 round heavy bag routine this morning, it was tough but when you get to the end you really know you worked hard. Thx for another great video Mike :)
That is simply amazing!!! I truly hope that other people read this comment and are inspired by your journey. There are sooo many people that get discouraged trying to lose 10 to 20 lbs and they give up... If anyone else is reading this comment then please please use iponemusings as an example of what can be done when you put both your mind and will to it.... well done sir!!!.. I really mean that congratulations on your success : )
You need to move a little further south. Unless you're used to it. And a winter time here it's cold but not too awful cold, never a White Christmas, but I stay stiff for so long, and you have to do these little things to be able to loosen up once you warm up. I love watching other people's routine cuz it helps me to add on to mine. Great video

In my case, I do all my exercises at home, as I am too busy to go to gym or follow a coach. Kindest Regards
Rosa Velazquez that’s awesome ..you’re going to find that it’s one of the best and most fun ways to get into great shape. Thanks for watching the video... I hope you enjoy the workouts 😎😎
Mike.. can you explain how you put up your weight training along with boxing practice. Like, how many days a week you do weight training. Is it full body or splits.. thanks again for all the great content you put out here 👍
Thanks for watching. You’ll find that most pro boxers will often train twice a day. Usually boxing training in the morning and strength and conditioning at night. Five days a week. They also usually do spit routines so that they don’t over train. 😎😎😎
That will always depend on your schedule but if you are training with weights twice a week and doing this workout twice a week ...you should see some pretty good results : )
Great question, in the next few weeks i will also be posting some strength training routines that will cover the entire body and then i will show everyone how i put the boxing and weights together without spending all of your time in the gym : )
Hey Mike Gales, I wrote a long post if you would make another video to expand on how to fight off of an angle. I have no gyms near and I couldn't really do anything effective when sparring my cousin. I do my shadow boxing, my heavy bag, etc .. but how do I put it all together against a real live person? Can I practice that solo somehow? FYI I almost had to street fight Saturday night. The guy wouldn't back down and actually came at me. My off duty police cousin deescalated it but I wasn't thinking clearly and I don't know if I could have defended myself. I want to build confidence in my boxing skills. Thanks for your videos. - long time subscriber
I think if you watch the playlist of boxing videos you will find the foot work video, the pivot video and the angles of boxing. If those don't help message me here and i will try and do something more specific in the near future. You can definitely practice solo and get used to throwing all the punches and accompanying foot work. The real key to doing well in sparring is to have everything become soooo second nature to you...that you never have to think about what you are doing....all you then have to focus on is what your opponent is doing. You always need to be careful on the street as even if you become the best boxer in the world, people out there don't fight fair..... i think your cousin did the right thing by deescalating the situation. That being said...sharpening your skills will definitely boost your confidence as you know that you can handle yourself if you need to....lets just hope it never comes to that : )
You answered my question perfectly, sorry for the late response. I will bump up the number of practices so that I can box in my sleep. That "almost" fight really shook my nerves, my boxing skills flew out the window. That's why I came to you for help. Maybe a "how to keep your nerves in a spar/fight" video would be good? You're hands down the best boxing coach on RUclips, thank you.
That's a great idea and i definitely will do a video all about nerves. I find the greatest tip is to alway be well prepared. Also don't overthink and worry about what might or could happen...just think of that very first punch that you will throw and only that first punch. Everything will flow from there anyway.Once again thanks for watching : )
Hey Mike! Great video!! I’m looking to start boxing for cardio and muscle training. I’m 176 pounds and 5’7. What height and weight of heavy bag do you recommend me? Thanks a lot!
I've watched this video for the seventh times and still good. My favourite is the 12 round. Can you explain your combination at that round? I only catch one..4b,3b,4a,3a and clinch or block? (Like bob and weave too?)
Sorry for the delay in responding, I was away for a few days. In that 12th round I don’t really throw a specific combination for the round ... I basically throw whatever comes to mind. If I’m a step or two away from the bag I usually start with a jab or double jab and then I will usually throw the cross or a short hook as I get closer. If I’m already close to the bag I might start with a right hook to the body ( to lower my opponents guard) then I like to throw either a right upper cut or perhaps a left hook to the body and finish with a right hook to the head. But again I basically throw anything that round 😎
Lol... I’m.not sure. But I always tell everyone to try and make working out as easy and comfortable as possible. It makes sticking to a workout routine sooo much easier. I thank you for watching. 😎😎
Buridoughboy that will always depend on how much time that you have but an even split is a good start ...so 2 days boxing and 2 days resistance training or 3 days boxing and 3 days resistance training for example :)
ideally, the bag should be half of your body weight, so 100lbs would have been the perfect weight. This bag is only 80lbs and as such its a little light for me... i opted for the lighter bag so that my wife could use it as well. It's still a great bag, it gets the job done and you can't beat it for the price : )
A heavy bag is a great investment and it will last you for life : ) It may be hard so see in this video but there is another tan 100lbs heavy bag there suspended in the air on its side... and that bag is like 30 years old and still in great shape : )
Everlast Nutrition - I never had a place to hang a heavy bag indoors before and as I live in Scotland, hanging one outdoors was impracticable. Situation has changed now and I can finally get one. Thanks again Mike. 🙂
Hi Mike, thank you for this great video! I have a question about the heavy bag. I'm about to installing one (in my office :D) and I'm not sure what's the ideal height from the floor/ceiling and size compared to my body height. I learnt that it should be half of my weight but also I'm not sure about how tall the bag itself should be. I saw something like 1 mt, 1.5 mt or 1.8 mt height. I know there are a lot of information all over the internet but your reliability is unique! The one you have in your Home Gym, how tall is it? Is it light for you? Thank you again brother.
Great questions...You are absolutely right that the general rule is half of your body weight and the bag should be at least as tall as your own torso (hopefully a bit taller) so that's at least from the top of your head to your waist. The bag is also best installed at that height if you have the room and so have the bottom of the bag a little below the height of your waist which will have the top of the bag at roughly the top of your head.Yet these are just general guidelines and are not absolutely necessary for example if you weighed 200lbs an 80lbs bag or 110lbs bag might be just fine. Like in the above scenerio...I have 2 bags..one is 100 lbs (45kg) and 1.5m and the other is 80lbs (36kg) and 1.35m and there is not a huge difference between them. ideally, I would like to have a heavier bag (perhaps 120lbs) so that it does not move too much...but even if its a bit light it's not that big of a deal. I'm sure that you are going to have some amazing workouts once you install that bag in your office : )
Thank you Mike, I will certainly follow your tips when I'm ready to install the bag. Can I ask you one more question? Sorry to bother you again :) due to expensive shipping costs for a heavy bag, I'm probably thinking to order an empty one and do the filling myself. Do you have any recommendations about which material is the best for this use? I saw online some suggested pieces of fabric, sand, soia beans, rice etc. But material aside, what I also concern is the distribution inside the bag. I'm afraid that punch after punch, the material could move unevenly and maybe it causes weight shifting causing dents or clumps at the bottom of the bag. That would probably make the bag unstable.
No problem :) I find that old rags are usually the way to go. You can put them into strips and stuff them into the bag. If you they are packed in tight, they won't move all that much. They also have bags that can be filled with water as well. You may want to try this....look at your local classified adds...for example if you have the facebook app there is a little house icon on the bottom of the screen. That's for the "marketplace" where people in your area sell stuff. People often buy exercise equipment and never use it...then they want to get rid of it. You may find a good bag (already filled) for a great price or perhaps for free. I'll be actually making a video in a few weeks showing people how to use this tip as I recently picked up a treadmill, spinning bike and extra weights for my home gym for super low prices :)
Thanks for the advice Mike, you just gave me a brainstorm about those rags, but also I'll have a look on the facebook app you mentioned. I currently live in Hong Kong and I haven't seen used heavy bags posted on those classified adds yet. Look forward to watching your new video Mike and again thanks for your time!
Just a small question for all. I dont have wrap . Can i continue my practice with just boxing gloves. I just started gym and want to use the heavy bag. May be a silly doubt but please suggest.
I would always recommend that you use the wraps. Using only the gloves may leave your hands prone to injury. It’s very easy to develop blisters without the wraps. 🙂
Great comment, and you can do both; In the next few weeks, I'm going to put together 3 separate videos that will demonstrate how to strength train your entire body in a home gym.... and ill explain how to stick the boxing workouts with the strength training workouts so that you're not spending your whole life in the gym : )
It’s best to keep it about your height. I usually box guys that are much taller than myself and so I like to keep it a little higher than usual. Thank you for taking the time to watch😎😎
You can always add more rounds of bag work or shadow boxing. There’s also a video on this channel where I show people to use one of those flexible rulers instead of a speed bag to get those shoulders burning. Thanks for watching 😎😎
I know this video isn't new, but I found the application for the timer, but i'm unable to set it for 3 rounds and 1 min of rest. Anyone know the way to set it?
I was surprised how strong Thurman came out the first few rounds ....and he put those rounds in the bank. Would have been interesting if that were an old school 15 round fight. what did you think ?
+Everlast Nutrition well i thought danny was more accurate but thurman was throwing more punches than danny thats the only reason i think he won but tell me this in the amateurs n pros do they count who hits who more or do they go off of whos busy in the fight cause if you look back closely thurman was throwing alot but missing alot to n not to keep bugging you or anything but have you heard from Ian theres no rush i was just wondering
I haven't seen Ian for a bit :( he also runs his own gym but the second i see him I'll bug him for sure. In the amateurs its a point system where each clean blow counts as one point....in the pros its supposed to be who won the round by doing more damage to the opponent. The problem i think for Garcia was that he just got started too late. I'm sure we might see a rematch of that one : )
+Everlast Nutrition ok cool ive got my car now all i have to do is get me some car insurance and i will have transportation to the gym i would say you could get his number n call him n ask him but if not its cool im a patient man just send me an email when you get the trainers information for me and thank again for everything.
Not at all... there are many great fighters who started boxing much later than you. Even the current heavy weight champ deontay wilder started boxing at 19 ... so you’ll be just fine 😎😎
Thanks for commenting; Absolutely, i thought that i would have a good professional career as well but unfortunately, i tore my lead shoulder 2 weeks before my first pro fight. (i still fought anyway and i lost due to a bad call by the ref in a fight i was winning..oh well) But finally after 3 years, my shoulder is back to normal and I'm hoping to continue fighting as a pro this summer.
Thanks for commenting. Duct tape is super cheap and it works to fix most anything. I often use it to prolong the life of bags, gloves and other certain equipment.
Lol... you’re right I should stop saying that. In my mind I always feel that 43 may be getting old for boxing. But I don’t feel old... at least not yet anyways 😎😎 Thanks for commenting 🙂🙂🙂
Fight your way Fit I turn 30 this year. Age is in your head for the most part. If you keep your body healthy you should be good for a long time. Also thank you for this video. Thinking of pursuing boxing again for health benefits as I feel it could help with my long distance running. Plus I’m obsessive when it comes to jump rope. I can spend two hours doing that easy. Uh, I love boxing as much as I love futebol. Thanks again.

Mike.. can you explain how you put up your weight training along with boxing practice.
I have the same punching bag
It's great for punching out frustrations....the thing can take a beating : )
LoL the way this dude moves is hilarious
Great
Thank you for taking the time to watch :)
Best video ever watch sir....if I combine with 2 times a week weight training, how often should I do this old school a week?
That will always depend on your schedule but if you are training with weights twice a week and doing this workout twice a week ...you should see some pretty good results : )
Everlast Nutrition thank you for advice Sir
This video is a little longer than most because this one is EXTRAAA AWWSSSOMMEEE!!
You're extra awesome!!! thanks again for watching : )
Good job
mbc thanks for watching :)
this is what i was waiting for... is there any exercise with weights are needed ?

Thanks for watching. The general rule is to have a bag that is half your body weight. In your case an 80lns bag would be great 😎😎😎
I've watched this video for the seventh times and still good.
Fight your way Fit ooo my...like you said all comes natural when you need it (boxing is repetition)
Where did you get those red sweats at?? Looks comfortable.
Lol... I’m.not sure. But I always tell everyone to try and make working out as easy and comfortable as possible. It makes sticking to a workout routine sooo much easier. I thank you for watching. 😎😎
This dude seems like a dope ass dude
Great video Mike , How old are you ? You look young
I'm getting up there... I'm 41....mentally tho i probably act like I'm 15 : )
Everlast Nutrition Damn you look like 25,
How often do you train boxing compared with resistance training?
Buridoughboy that will always depend on how much time that you have but an even split is a good start ...so 2 days boxing and 2 days resistance training or 3 days boxing and 3 days resistance training for example :)
Great video Mike. What weight is your heavy bag ?
ideally, the bag should be half of your body weight, so 100lbs would have been the perfect weight. This bag is only 80lbs and as such its a little light for me... i opted for the lighter bag so that my wife could use it as well. It's still a great bag, it gets the job done and you can't beat it for the price : )
Everlast Nutrition - thanks Mike. I'm looking for a bag so will go check out the everlast ones. Appreciate the advice 🙂
A heavy bag is a great investment and it will last you for life : )
It may be hard so see in this video but there is another tan 100lbs heavy bag there suspended in the air on its side... and that bag is like 30 years old and still in great shape : )
Everlast Nutrition - I never had a place to hang a heavy bag indoors before and as I live in Scotland, hanging one outdoors was impracticable. Situation has changed now and I can finally get one. Thanks again Mike. 🙂
what round timer app are you using?
It called interval timer..its on the app store and its free : )
OK thank you
If i were to complete this workout 5-6 days a week, would it get me into good shape? Like lean, fit and healthy?
Thanks again for watching. I still think you’ll do better training every second day. It will definitely be enough to get you for and healthy 😎😎😎😎
awesome vedio many benefits as your other vedios keep going
Thank you : )
Hi Mike, thank you for this great video!
No problem :)
I find that old rags are usually the way to go.
Look forward to watching your new video Mike and again thanks for your time!
can you tell as with wich part of hand we must hit speed bag
You will have more control over the bag if you make contact using the heel of your hand : )
Is there a way in which I can handle both a regular gym as well as a boxing workout? Or should I stick with only the boxing workout?
Great comment, and you can do both;
In the next few weeks, I'm going to put together 3 separate videos that will demonstrate how to strength train your entire body in a home gym.... and ill explain how to stick the boxing workouts with the strength training workouts so that you're not spending your whole life in the gym : )
I have a question about the height of your heavy bag. Isnt the bag a little bit high?
It’s best to keep it about your height. I usually box guys that are much taller than myself and so I like to keep it a little higher than usual. Thank you for taking the time to watch😎😎
Is there something i can do for the last 3 rounds cause i dont have a speed bag?
You can always add more rounds of bag work or shadow boxing. There’s also a video on this channel where I show people to use one of those flexible rulers instead of a speed bag to get those shoulders burning. Thanks for watching 😎😎
Good😍
Thanks for watching 😎😎
Sigue con la traduccio ya me suscribi a tu canal
gracias por ver el video :)
that's one secret agent gym. 😍
not too bad....nothing fancy but it gets the job done : )
I know this video isn't new, but I found the application for the timer, but i'm unable to set it for 3 rounds and 1 min of rest. Anyone know the way to set it?
What’s the interval training app?
It’s called interval timer and it’s in the apple store for free. Thanks for watching 😎😎
Fight your way Fit how does the app look like?
What weight is the heavy bag?
I think it’s an 80lbs bag if I remember correctly.
what did you think about the danny garcia and keith thurman fight last night
I don't have his number but i do have his email and ill write him by the end of the week : )
I’m about to turn 16 in a few days is it to late to start boxing?
Not at all... there are many great fighters who started boxing much later than you. Even the current heavy weight champ deontay wilder started boxing at 19 ... so you’ll be just fine 😎😎
AJ also started at 19 :)
Are you/Have you been a competitive boxer?
Thanks for commenting;
Absolutely, i thought that i would have a good professional career as well but unfortunately, i tore my lead shoulder 2 weeks before my first pro fight. (i still fought anyway and i lost due to a bad call by the ref in a fight i was winning..oh well) But finally after 3 years, my shoulder is back to normal and I'm hoping to continue fighting as a pro this summer.
Very saddened to hear what happened to you and thank you for enlightening me in details. You've got one of the best heavyweight physique as a boxer.
Complete.
Thanks for watching 😎😎😎😎
why'd you duck tape everything
Thanks for commenting. Duct tape is super cheap and it works to fix most anything. I often use it to prolong the life of bags, gloves and other certain equipment.
It will be really good if u can make a video on how to reduce man breasts. Thx
I'll soon be posting detailed videos showing how to your entire body rock solid : )
Has some cringe moments...but still a great workout video!!
Awesome!!! Thanks for trying it out 😎😎😎😎
🤩🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🤩
You’re not that old so stop saying your old.
Lol... you’re right I should stop saying that. In my mind I always feel that 43 may be getting old for boxing. But I don’t feel old... at least not yet anyways 😎😎
Thanks for commenting 🙂🙂🙂
Fight your way Fit I turn 30 this year. Age is in your head for the most part. If you keep your body healthy you should be good for a long time. Also thank you for this video. Thinking of pursuing boxing again for health benefits as I feel it could help with my long distance running. Plus I’m obsessive when it comes to jump rope. I can spend two hours doing that easy. Uh, I love boxing as much as I love futebol. Thanks again.
You’re right. We are all as old as we feel. I wish you all the best with your training and a very happy 30th birthday this year 🙂🙂🙂
