And 5 years later...not much has changed. I sure wish Copyright Management people would listen more to Cory Doctorow. He really can see the future even tho he does not admit to predicting the future, not only with his books(which should be SF but are actually pure truth) but also with his speeches and presentations. All my respect to this man. If I become half the man he is I will be more than happy.
I really enjoyed how Cory interjected an anecdote about blacksmiths into his talk. I somewhat wonder how many blacksmiths Cory has come in contact with over his lifetime (?) Otherwise a very long and unfruitful talk by just another "reality hacker" among "reality hackers" This kind of yib yab does nothing for me. Cute t-shirt!
So derivative crap based on others work by millions of untalented hacks is better than the truly talented coming out with original works but less often? I'll take the original works and let the no-talents continue to do what they do best.
You can't create the art unless they let you? What a ball of horseshit. No, you can't make smashup stealing other people's music. This is what you're crying about? That's not art, it's crap, and it lessens other people's intellectual property.
Thanks Cory for your part in helping with spreading the word about the need for copyright reform.

Doctorow is just fantastic!
just awesome...
thanks
didn't realize that the NSA thing was true in SF back in 2007 & that EFF was fighting against it for that long
Saw this guy on the Keiser Report, sensationally smart and bang on the money with copyright.
I've never seen a movie where someone accidentally pressed the self-destruct button.
And the MPAA.
I like this one.
copy right USA - a has been
submission before us
1 dislike - the RIAA
People buy songs in urines be aide it's not illegal. There are still some people left who care about laws. Oh yeah - and no viruses.

More bullshit that artists don't create art for financial reasons. That's a lie.

This clown is missing a critical point. In a free society no one is forced to buy any of the crap he mentions.
