  • In this video I'm going to walk you through updating your DMARC record from p=none to p=reject.
    If you're a business owner sending email at all, then by now you probably are familiar with the authentication requirements from Google and Yahoo in 2024.
    So you set up your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records and you authenticated your email service provider, right?
    And when you set up your DMARC record (or had someone like me set it up for you) you probably set it up to be p=none to start out.
    That way, you weren't going to inadvertently block any of your own emails - so then you wait a few weeks/months and check in on your DMARC monitor (I recommend Valimail, which is what I show in the video).
    If anything pops up as sending email on your behalf but not passing DMARC, you know to go in and authenticate whichever service that is.
    And if you take a look and everything is passing and all looks good, it's then time to lock your DMARC record down and change it to p=reject.
    So in my example using Valimail, we change:
    v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc_agg@vali.email;
    to
    v=DMARC1; p=reject; rua=mailto:dmarc_agg@vali.email;
    Then that means that anyone trying to use an email address with your domain, that isn't authenticated (doesn't have the right SPF and DKIM) will NOT be delivered.
    Thus, keeping your domain reputation safe.
    Once you've updated, check your domain here:
    easydmarc.com/tools/domain-scanner
    You should be green, green, green, red.
    Green for DMARC, SPF, and DKIM; red for BIMI.
    If not, or you run into any issues and would like my help, you can schedule a troubleshooting call here:

    If you're not sure what the heck I'm talking about (but you're a business owner and you have an email list) and this is all new to you, here's a handy guide that walks you through things step by step:
    docs.google.co...
    If you'd rather hit the easy button and have me set this all up for you:

    I recommend setting up a free account with Valimail to monitor your DMARC reports:
    www.valimail.c...
    If you have your DMARC record set up, but you have the reports being sent to your OWN email address, you'll want to get a Valimail account right away and change your DMARC record to:
    v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc_agg@vali.email;
    Then once you've let them monitor your reports for a few weeks, you can come back to this video and switch out your p=none to p=reject.
