my parents were married for 30 years and my mom told me after their 5th year she started to think of him as a roommate. she stayed another 25 years and regrets it and she saw your video with me and she said she's . proud you loved yourself enough to leave something that wasn't giving you what you needed
I am first hand proof that two people that are bad for each other staying together is just as harmful. The arguing, screaming, having sad and unhappy parents together is worse than happy ones apart. Do what makes you feel good and don't accept anything but what you deserve. And don't care what anyone else's expectations for "your family" is.

I will never understand why Jaclyn gets so much negativity towards her online. She seems like one of the kindest, sweetest people. I guess people are just jealous. I'm so happy to see her happy again, the spark is back. Just ordered the vault collection - I definitely don't need it, but I need to support the girl! And you'd better believe I used her Morphe code!
I told my husband I wanted a divorce in August, 2010, then a week later we had a leak at our house and I spent 3 mos. in a hotel because I'm allergic to mold and dust. Week after I got back, my brother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma so we had to keep our house in case he needed to come live there if he lost his house. I moved upstairs and he stayed downstairs and we were roommates until Feb, 2014 when we finally sold the house and decided it was ok to move on, as my brother was stable. That's 3.5 years we lived together after deciding to divorce. It was fine. No drama. I get it. Just because you divorce doesn't mean you have to hate each other. Doesn't mean anyone cheated or there was some huge one thing, it's just all the little stuff that tells you, happy is elsewhere. No need to rake the Ex over the coals, just be grownups realizing it's over and moving on wishing each other well. I admire you for being respectful and not talking about it.

I actually feel sorry for you in regards to social media. I understand there is the whole element of you choose to put your life on social media, so you must expect questions. But I genuinely saw someone comment on your Twitter (someone who obviously had never met you) that you owed it to her to try and save your marriage. She referred to you as 'my Jaclyn and Jon', and asked if you couldn't try harder to save your marriage for her. This complete stranger wanted you to stay in your marriage just for her. She basically said her happiness depended on it. Some people are really strange, and have no right to ask those things of you. I am glad you and Jon are both happier and doing well now.
That right there is the definition of crazy and delusional. I hope she's blocking people like that, that borders on obsessive.

It’s always a very hard road but at the end of it there’s still always love so it’s worth fighting for my marriage. I know that’s not always the case for everyone.

I recently got out of a relationship myself (not nearly as long as yours, so I'm not trying to compare in that way), but I was so so in love with this boy right until the end. It was the same thing you described. We moved in together, and became roommates. We would never go to bed at the same time, or wake up. We never went anywhere, or did anything together. About the "roommate - not a husband" -thing: I had exactly the same problem. My ex-boyfriend would be gaming all night and wake up super late, while i went to bed early to go to school in the morning. Everything he did when we were together started to anoy me, because there was no connection anymore. Eventually i felt so lonely and "single" that I fel in love with someone else. It's something that happens and it's okay to have these feelings, there is nothing to be ashamed about and don't listen to anyone else's hate!

I was not married but I was in a relationship for three years and completely know how you feel. I gave it my all! And my family and friends could see how much it drained from me. Like you said I felt single and lonely for so long. It made me almost in-human. It gave me horrible anxiety and depression. I ended it a year ago as I couldnt take it anymore. 7 months ago I met the love of my life, my anxiety went from an 11/10 to a 2/10. Looking back now I know in my heart God put me through a lesson I needed to learn. Your time will come where someone will make everything feel like it happened for a reason! Much love girl! Jaclyn, thank you so much for speaking about your marriage and why it ended. I got married at 18, and 5 years later I asked for divorce. I still haven’t been divorced yet, separated one year now. I find myself not wanting to file because I’m holding out hope that I could restart that love, and make it the partnership I dream of. Instead, it was very much like yours. Roommates and not partners. We never ate, slept, or woke at the same time. I always felt so alone in it. Like I was trying and giving my all to someone who couldn’t show up for me. I’m so thankful you shared your experience, as you said many people never speak about this type of a divorce. It’s nice to have someone to look up too whose had similar struggles as me. it’s so good to know others are in the same boat. i got married 8 year ago when i was 23 and i stuck it out because i have two boys and didn’t know what would happen if we split when they were little and i was terrified of being a single mother. i decided to separate to give them time to adjust to us not being together because it’s just like jaclyn said, i felt like i had a roommate. i’m almost 30 and feel stronger and more stable than when i was 23. anyways sorry for the long text but this topic if close to my heart and i struggled for over a year with this decision.

I felt your real talk on your divorce on another level. Girł I was there in my first marriage. I wasn't in love with my ex-husband for years. After almost 11 years of marriage and two children, we separated. While I love the father he is and would never say anything negative about him in the presence of our kids, I was so relieved to officially move on. I'm now remarried to the LOVE of my life and just recently purchased our dream home and land. While our marriage isn't perfect (what marriage is?), my life is more than I could ever have dreamed of. Sometimes two people who met and loved at such a young age don't grow up to be the same people they were. And that's ok! We grow and change and sometimes we grow incompatible. Oh yeah. Definitely been there. I had a child with my ex after 3 years of being together and I stayed with him until my son was 3 because I thought it was the right thing to do and I was like “well this is my life now I guess” even though I was the most unhappy. I can’t remember a time where I was less happy. And finally I figured out that i deserved better and now I have a fantastic fiancé and he’s a great stepdad to my kid and everything is amazing. Never settle for less than you deserve.
Mel Hassan I didn't hear anything about what was best for your kids, but I'm assuming that's what you mean. Once you have a child, they become top priority always, or certainly should. Parents have the tendency to think what's best is to stay together, but I can assure anyone that kids are resilient and do much better in a healthy two household, co-parenting situation than stuck in a living hell with both parents... as long as you can say you turned over every stone to try to make it work and just couldn't (and say it with 100% honesty.)
random 1 oh no that’s what I meant. For some reason I thought that would be best for him because my parents are divorced and I don’t know why but I didn’t want that situation for him. But yeah I can assure you I wouldn’t have stayed in that situation if I didn’t think at the time it was what was best. I was wrong. I figured out that honestly I was the only one supporting my child emotionally and monetarily so it was like “well really how is staying with him benefiting my child at all?” It wasn’t beneficial for either one of us for me to stay with his dad so but it just took me a while to figure that out. Now he has someone he can truly look up to so it’s a win-win.
Mel Hassan I gotcha. Same boat many are in. Parents feel guilty breaking up the family, but the child thanks you later when it is done out of concern for them, and they get the best of both worlds like you said. Glad to hear things are going so well for you all. That's what life is all about... making the best out of the cards we've been given and trying to remedy our mis steps the best we can. God knows we all aren't perfect, but it's all about intentions. 🙂
The best thing that you can give to your children is parents who love each other and an Home full with armony and love, not things.
Mel Hassan im in the SAME situation.. except im still with him. I have such guilt with trying to leave him because of our son but im so unhappy. And he is pulling BS. Uggggh so hard.

I stayed with me ex who was an addict for way too long, stayed with him through multiple rehabs and through stealing, cheating and a lot of toxic energy... it felt so good to finally walk away and move on sometimes you can care about and love someone from a distance. Marissa Renee I know exactly how you feel. My ex relapsed twice while we were together. The first time, he came to me pretty quickly and we got him in rehab. The second time, he went pretty deep and hid it so well I had absolutely no clue. It ended up putting my kids in danger and getting him arrested. Between that and his (pre-existing) narcissitic behavior, I decided I was done immediately. It was scary and freeing, all at the same time. But life has gotten better. I sincerely hope yours has too.
