We love you all! Thanks for watching our latest video. Are you doing soup in the summer? I do it all year round. This one is a high protein twist on a traditional favorite. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. - Joey
When I lived in Tucson, I would switch my recipes like I switched from summer clothes to winter according to the season: salads in the summer and soup in the winter; each with loads of fresh veggies. Now I am by the beach which experiences June Gloom: grey skies, low temps and high humidity. Your soup recipe today came at just the right time! Gracias!
Soup is my favorite no matter the time of year and I live in Phoenix. Where did you buy those soy curls? They are not Butler brand. I've never seen any other. Love your shows.❤
67 pounds lost since your video of 8/28/2023 thanks to your inspiration. Haven’t used any oil because it is just too great a waste of calories. Thanks you, Joey for your inspiration and support.
Vanessa, we had a birds nest in our patio cover last year and there was a whole "Bird cam" thing going for like months. It was crazy. I am a big fan of birds
Your timing is perfect! It's cold and rainy here, I was thinking soup would be the perfect meal. this one sounds really good, I was raised on chicken noodle soup. I love soy curls, so many ways to use them. Thanks so much once again
Thanks, Joey! You look fantastic, and the recipe looks delicious! I would add a little bit of turmeric early on in the cooking for a slightly more golden colored broth. Can't wait to try it!
Thank you Joey, looks delicious. I tried getting hold of soy curls for a long time, no luck in the UK. Looks like a useful and versatile ingredient, especially if you are bumping up protein. Have a good time at your professional development!
In the UK you might find them as TVP (textured veg protein) or TSP textured soy protein). You can get chunky ones (like chicken pieces) or grainy ones (like mince).
@@ximenezb thank you, I don't think they are the same - you are right it is easy to find TVP, soy curls are made from whole soybeans and fibre is preserved, so are nutrients from the original bean, TVP is made from dehulled and defatted soybeans and it is my understanding it is far more processed - for me, having tried soy curls on holiday, they do have very different texture, not everyone wants that - it resembles animal foods, my son does not like TVP but would eat soy curls because of that texture thing, it could be a good transition food for him, so hopefully someone will think of importing it
I am going to try this but with tvp ( small chunks version) because i have some of this leftover and need to use it. The weather is changing and this will warm me up
I make soup all year too! I have a very similar chix soup (soy curls rock!!) that I make with acini di pepe (little pasta balls) and it freezes really well!
I am rather Gauche in my upbringing so I never knew that soup had a season, beyond not eating hot foods when it was really hot outside. I love soy curls however they can be spongey, which my kid finds distasteful. food texture pickiness is strong within that one. I have experimented with not rehydrating them if I am cooking them in a soup. It was a bit better if I remember.
PS I wanted to add that if we allow the pan to heat until a bit of water on it travels about, for a few seconds, like mercury looks, instead of bubbling, steaming away, then the surface of the pan is nearly completely non stick.
❤ love this!! Also just curious you said you’re not oil free anymore? What was the reasoning for this? And do you now use foods with oil in them? Love watching your videos!
I realized during this transiting that oil isn't the problem, calories are. I still don't normally use oil because its high in calories, but if i want to use a product that has oil in it and still is very low in calories, i wont hesitate to use it. The free or oil was just unnecessary. Not much has changed since I made the switch as far as oil is concerned. I don't use it and I still make my own dressings.
HA! That is some left over vinyl flooring boards I lay down for cooking on camera so the white countertop doesn't reflect the lighting that I have pointing down.
Joey i need help making bean burgers. I made some a week ago and added 1/2 cup of TVP in it. I followed two recipes and made of my own. Came out good but I over cooked in oven. Next week i made again and changed some more. It falls apart more easily. Have you made any burger with TVP or know someone else??
We can. I still go on trips with the kids for leadership competitions and I get paid for that time away. I also do professional development classes and again we get paid for those. But yes, we can take another job because our contracts are only for the first day of school until the last day of school. We don't get paid for the summer months that school is out.
@@PlantBasedDads i am a elementary school teacher in the Netherlands, we have a perpetual contract with pay during the summer, we have to work a certain hours a year to keep pay during summer. Just interesting to see how this works in different countries. Love this recipe by the way!! I had never tries TVP or soy curls before i tried your high protein recipes
I don’t remember which video it was but because some of the higher protein items they use have oil, they aren’t technically oil free. They still don’t cook with or add oil. For example the high protein plant milk they started this calorie restriction / high protein journey with had a little oil.

See if you can find “tofu sticks”; pretty much the same as soy curls!
