  • 15 August 2015 is an historical day for Vanuatu Mission because on that Sabbath 16 people went through the first Adventist baptism on the remote predominantly Presbyterian island of Futuna.
Minister Solomoni Taipo from Fiji went and live in Futuna since 2013 and took Bible Studies with the people.
Amongst the baptised candidates was late Kopaji’s family his wife Esther Tou and children. Kopaji got interested in the Adventist message and he and his family gave a land for minister Solomoni to build the first Adventist church on the island of Futuna. Before the church was completed he died. His family continued to help Solomoni built the church and attended Bible Studies. The church was completed and also dedicated two days after the baptism on August 17, 2015.
Kopaji’s mother was also baptised and the clerk of the Presbyterian church of Futuna island also was baptised.
Pr Jonathan Moses, Tafea District Leader conducted the baptism on the shores of Herald Bay, Futuna. Members from Efate and Tanna islands travelled over to witness this historical event.
Minister Solomoni said he was very humbled to witness the first baptism on the island recalling when he first set foot on Futuna on June 2013. He knew no one but was certain that God called him to Futuna. First he had to learn Bislama, Vanuatu Pidgin language so he could give Bible Studies to the people.
