It's still a good idea IMO to rub some acetone over the shaft before wrapping, and then wet wipe the wrap and dry it before the vanes go on. I have yet to have a single wrap fall off this way.
This was a very informative vid regarding fletching the vanes, after a good year schooting with standard blazer vanes on the easton fmj's, i finally found a reliable source with good tip's and trick's for securing the vanes. if i'm able to get to the shop this week, i think that i'm gonna buy the first set allready installed, and a set for learning to fletch my own. Great upload and well explained, thanks!
Thank you for sharing this with us. I too am a fan of the orange 🍊. I have the same Easton fletching jig that I recently bought. However I don't have a saw or straightening jig yet. Still debating on whether I should try Victory, Easton, Gold Tip or Black Eagle. I am also thinking of going 4 fletch with a slight helical. I don't think that the jig I have is for helical vanes though.
I have a few questions, I see some builders will install a sleeve that is on the outside of the shaft where the broad head is screwed in. Why? I think I know but would like to hear from someone that professionally builds arrows and in this video, you didn't mention that option. Also, I want to get into building arrows and bows any good resources that a person can watch or even read up on. Great job on the video, so far yours has been the best without getting so technical and straying away from what you are teaching. Thank you, Jay
Awesome great video thank you. When it come to weight how do I know what weight is best for the type of broad-heads I’m using? I don’t want to just get any set of arrows and slap on the broad-heads I like to use? My current arrow is 350 grains .244 diameter. The broad-heads I’m using are 125 grain Annihilators XL, how can I determine what insert and outserts I need and the length of fletching that I should use? The arrows came with aluminum inserts which I would like to change.
Built my first set this year. Went heavy. 250 spine Sirius Vulcans, 150gn insert with 200gn single bevel head. ~730gn arrow with FOC around 16%. You guys ever insert tune or nock tune? I feel like you'll guarantee better arrow flight if you insert tune before you glue them in and bare-shaft nock tune before you fletch.
give victory rip tko 250's a shot... im at 720ish and 25% FOC w/ 220 insert and 200 BH at 30.5"... and they are spine aligned and marked so they are already "nock tuned"
This was a great video and very detailed. I think I know the answer but just to be sure, if you were building these for hunting, I'm assuming you want to put on the broad head you want to use and then align the fletching to the broad head blades before you glue them on, correct? Just wanna be sure cause I think I'd like to try building my own for hunting season this year.
That depends on if you're going to use a fixed or mechanical broadhead. If you're using a 3-blade fixed head, it would benefit you to align the vanes with the broadhead blades. But with mechanical broadheads, as Justin uses, it doesn't matter.
Rookie here... I remember helping my dad build his arrows as a kid, he let me pick the feather colors 😊. But now I'm curious, why do you make your own arrows? Cheaper cost? Customization? Better quality? For the craft of it?
Is that the AAE Max Stealth “fire orange” or “sunset gold” you put on the arrow? AAE website does not have a FLO or Neon Orange color just “fire orange” or “sunset gold”
That's the good thing about the Bowhunt or Die arrow wraps, Justin glued his vanes on so that one vane was lined up with the text on the arrow wrap. That way he knows which vane will be at the top when nocking an arrow.
@Julio Ril, He mentioned Lancaster Archery (www.lancasterarchery.com/arrows.html) at the end of the video. I ordered from them for years and had no problems.
Bought a couple dozen of these exact arrows from camofire over the winter. At first blush they don’t seem any different than the bae rampage I shot last year, but at about half the price.

$75 most likely

Any good books on building arrows?
How did you get your brand printed on your wraps?
We went through a company called OneStringer to make them.

We have an Apple arrow saw in our shop. There are others out there, most of which are around $200.

Do you wipe off the excess glue?
Yes, usually. But it's good to not use way too much glue.
What kind of blade is that for cutting the arrows?
looks like a standard cutoff wheel
What do your wraps weigh? I can't find info on the website
They are about 7 grains, give or take a little.
Can that jig do 1 degree offsets
Yes, both the Bitzenburger and Arizona EZ Fletch can do offsets.
Wanting to start building my own....How do you buy these arrows without the fletching already on it?
You can find just about any bare arrow shaft at Lancaster Archery Supply - www.lancasterarchery.com/arrows/arrow-shafts/hunting-shafts.html
You only need 3 small drops of glue then spread with the tip of your glue bottle. It's a pain clean the glue off and out of the ez Fletch jig
Great tip! Cleaning glue out of any fletching jig is a pain.
Soak the ez fletch in acetone for a few hours glue disappears. Doesn't affect jig.
Is that the sunset gold color or fire orange AAE vane?
Sunset gold vines
what color orange fletchings are those
I belive sunset
Why didn’t you spine align the arrow?
Those axis arrows never seem to need it imo compared to gold tips and others
