Because of these ridiculous 25 soon to be 20 MPH speed limits you are likely never to hear those VH9 Allison's shift into overdrive again😢

I remember riding these buses as a kid in NYC and i really enjoyed them. I think I love them more now than I did then. Just the sound of the engine makes it so worthwhile. What I would do to ride on them one more time.

Omg when i was young i had a bus and trolley fascination, when these FLEXIBLE BUSES RAN FOR SEPTA, I LOVED THESE BUSSES, THE MORE BROADER FRONT WINDOWS THAT LOOKED LIKE THE NEW LOOK FISHBOWL BUSSES BUT THE WINDOWS ON THE FLEXIBLE STUCK OUT MORE AND THE BUSSES WERE AIR CONDITIONED BY THE SIDE WINDOWS U COULD SMELL THE FRESH COLD AIR BLOWING OUT THE HOLES OF THE SIDE WINDOW SLOTS, THESE WERE MY FAVORITE BUSSES, THE INSIDE INTERIOR HAD BROWN SOFT SEATS, WITH A YELLOW COLORED FRAME ALL AROUND THE WWINDOWS AND WALL OF THE BUS at least SEPTA HAD THIS COLOR, SOMETIMES U COULD END UP ON THIS SAME TYPE OF BUS, BUT INSTEAD OF THE INTERIOR BEING YELLOW INSIDE IT MAY BE BLUE, I WOULD LET THE FISHBOWL BUSSES GO BY AND ALL OTHER TYPES OF BUSSES JUST TO CATCH THE FLEXIBLE BUSSES, THE BACK OUTSIDE AIR ROOF VENT WAS MORE LIFTED IN THE AIR AND MORE ROUNDED THEN THE FISHBOWL NEW LOOK BUSSES, THE ENGINE WAS LIKE A ROAR AND HAD A UNIQUE SOUND, AND THE EXAUST PIPE WAS UP IN THE AIR ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE BUS, AND THE FISHBOWL BUSSES HAD A TRIANGULAR SQUARE LOW AIR VENT ON THE TOP ROOF BACK OF THE BUS ALSO THE EXUAST PIPE WAS UNDER THE BUS AND THE ENGINE HAD A WEIRD DRAGGY SOUND BUT I MISS THESE AND THE FISHBOWL BUSSES SO MUCH, THIS FLEXIBLE BUS MOTOR REMINDS ME OF THE EARLIER SQUARE NEOPLAN BUSSES ENGINE SEPTA USE TO RUN DURING THE 80'S AND 90'S BEFORE IT SEEMS LATER THEY HAD A DIFFERENT SOUND WHEN THE OTHER SERIES NEOPLAN MODELS CAME OUT, I ALWAYS COULD TELL THE NEOPLANS I LOVED COMPARED TO THE LATER NEOPLAN MODELS, BECAUSE THE INSIDE INTERIOR OF THE EARLY NEOPLAN MODELS HAD A WHITE FRAME INTERIOR AND THE ENGINE WAS LOUD WITH A ROAR LIKE THE NEW LOOK FLEXIBLE BUSSES, BUT NOW SEPTA HAS GOTTEN RID OF THEIR NEOPLAN BUSSES OFF THE ROAD FOR THE NEW LOW FLOOR NIGHT FLYER BUSSES, THAT NOW HAS MANY NEW MODEL TYPE LOOKS. I liked the 1st models of nightflyer busses that was 1st introduced to septa, it looked similar to the old new look flexible busses and fishbowl busses jus the bus frame is more square lookin, i called these night flyers the cousins to the flexible new look busses, it had a destination sign on the top back roof of the bus like the new look flexible busses did, and a exhaust pipe on the side back actually the roof back similar to the new look flexible busses

Aha! so my recollection about bench seating throughout a NYC bus is right.

Growing up in Chicago, NY buses were strange to me. Everything from the bowling alley seats to the lack of standee windows to the odd looking air conditioning unit on the back of the Flxbles.
The Chicago Flxbles didn't have air conditioning. We had mostly forward facing seats. Our GMC fishbowl were air cinditioned and had the 8V 71 engines.
I didn't really start liking the NY buses until they received the Grumman Flxbles, but even then, they didn't have many with the 8V 71s

Music to my ears. I do believe GMC Buses had the same engine and transmission. They sound identical.

Yes there is-a 8V-71 is sweeter, a 12V-71 is even sweeter, a 16V-71 is king sounding.

New Orleans RTA (NOPSI) had these buses from (1964-1984) different fleet sets.
