Great video! Love to see how you do the near impossible. In my high school woodshop program we muscle the logs, but I have a mini skid steer on order. I can't believe the support I get from the community now that we mill our own logs for our woodshop program.
Love to see high school woodshop programs still exist.
Do you have any videos of your high school program?
@@Tools-For-Tech-Teachers my channel is TopSaw. I cover tree work to woodwork.
@@topsaw Thank you, I'll check it out.
Great videos, great to see the cool things that are possible
Idk what's better. The actual wood slabbing, or the time that you get to spend with your dad doing what you love. I miss my dad, lost him in 2015. Spend all the time you can, while you can, with those you love.
I wish I could thumbs up this more than once. Lost my dad in 2017. Miss building with him.
@@JasonRSpenny me too. And the cussing I got when I didnt do it his way lol. It was always funny and we both laughed at each other. But that's what you get when you mix a Marine(dad) and a Sailor(me).
I hear ya, my Superman died in 09 man what I would give to spend time with my dad again. I just love seeing people spend time with their parents as adults.
So true. When I was young, my parents moved us out of the city and we built the house a pretty much grew up in. I spent much of my childhood in the shop with my dad, making all the cabinets and trim work for the house. I lost him in Sept 2014, miss him everyday, especially when I am out in the shop.
Same here, we miss our Dads!
You are so lucky that your Dad is still around to share this time with, long may it continue for you both.
God bless you and your family.
Back in 1969 I was 10 years old.
My Dad decided to build another bathroom down in our finished basement.
But it was actually a double job, dismantle the upstairs bathroom and it's fixtures, and carry them all downstairs for the "new" bathroom.
And start putting in the upstairs fixtures as they came in.
I was a big kid, very strong, my father was surprised when I lifted my end of the iron claw foot bathtub and said
"Let's go"
And promptly carried it down stairs.
A lot of carpentry, plumbing, and tile work and it took us 3 weeks to finish both bathrooms.
He was proud of me,
It is one of my moments that I'll never forget.
Remember the jobs you do with your Dad.
Cherish the moment.
I could see the love and how proud your Father is of you. Beautiful
hey thats my name too.
nothing better than spending time with family, doing something together, that you love..
Makes me wish i had my father around, to be able to enjoy doing things like this together..
Great day with your dad. My dad was never around so I shadowed my grandfather and two uncles. My grandfather had a saw mill during the depression and that’s what are used to pay for his house and feed five kids. My oldest uncle built furniture and design furniture for southern Vermont furniture a half a century ago. My other uncle had a Farm with 70 milk cows. All three of them together gave me a wonderful education on how a person can survive using his hands to work. I see that your father also gave you a wonderful heritage.
Matt dont take for granted to work with your dad, those are times you will never have a second chance to do. I miss my dad when he worked at his shop, and now I have taken up wood working and my electronics to make them work together to create really cool and nice things. Seeing you work with your dad is something I miss and can not do with my dad since he passed away.
What a Pair I’m glad there’s nobody paying you by the hour. Lot more fooling around than work being done. Great father and son reaction /get together /cooperation /working together /it’s really nice to see. God Bless
your dad's accent reminds me of my grandfather, he live in Plymouth WI. As well, your interactions with him remind my of my relationship with my father, I cherish this type of interaction as they won't last forever nor will the time be forgotten by you. Cheers
This video really made me miss my dad i lost him this past June on fathers day of all days enjoy every second you spend with him.
oh man. Really sorry to hear that
Matt -- enjoy the time with your Dad... These are moments you'll treasure forever. Trust me -- It's been almost 30 years since my dad passed. I can still hear his voice. Enjoy. BTW -- that log was gorgeous. Flooring might be boring, but that stuff would be beautiful as flooring, or a table, or....
thanks Joe!
You and your Dad work well together, brings back fond memories of the "trouble" Dad and I would get into with some of our projects. Enjoy every minute you can with your Dad, and I'm sure you will be doing the same with your son.
Never take for granted the relationship you have with your father. He clearly supports you and loves you. Your outro, i'm sure, would be well received by him. It's great to watch! :)
Thanks!
Matthew - thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving family adventure. From your Moms intro to your Dads sweat, hard work and the old time family photos. Please, please, please continue the tradition and hold these days tightly to your heart as the value of these memories will increase exponentially. Losing my Dad 10 years ago still is a heartache for me, and I miss him every day. Do more stuff with your parents and family, and you will be lovingly rewarded. I love this channel, your skills and abilities. Keep cutting straight! Chuck in NE Kansas
Such positive and supportive parents! Love it
The reveal on that snow-covered board was fantastic! A little slo-mo and a small choir singing are the only things that could have made it better! 🤣😂🤣
Thanks Matt! This vid almost made me emotional... Shout out to all the dads out there!!! 💯
Amazing video, Matt. A real treat to watch you and your father.
My dad's too old and frail now, but we had a lot of fun adventures collecting Old WoodWorking Machines (OWWM) 10 years ago. Awesome times together.
Enjoy those times with your Dad. It's good to see you 2 working together.
That mill is unstoppable!! I can believe how good it cuts.
Same here 😄
Excellent video! My husband and son just got several beautiful red oak logs for me. I can't wait to put them on the sawmill. I love each cut and seeing what is hiding inside.
I think I know where you got that awesome attitude, your father!!! It was nice to see you work together...Nice the red oak, but I remember the walnut you milled, that is still my favorite!
haha thanks!!
Your parents seem like lovely people.
Matthew's mom - I am pretty sure you are an angel, having to put up with Matt all this time. 😎. Seriously - this is cool. My dad helped me cut the first boards on my mill. Great memories.!
Fun video with you and your pops! Seems to be a class guy and a clear role model of hard work and humility. I also enjoyed the little graphic additions, especially the MC-tape measure. Lovely stuff.
Thanks Charles!
Thank you for the share. This definitely goes to show a little patience goes a long way. Often times you just want results, or the end product so you're tempted to just rush in and get something done. Your video here is the epitome of wood working and one of the big reasons I am interested in it. It teaches you to slow down, think about what youre trying to do, and carry it out methodically. Watching this video was a great reminder.
Being able to work with your dad on your project...priceless!!👍👍
Your mom is so adorable! Heartwarming video... oh and the milling was cool too
Tim I totally agree.Thats nice.
matt. Very impressed with your knowledge of wood and your skills. (and your mom is adorable) your a lucky man to have parents like that. Peace..
Thanks Tommy!
Hi Mathew, Hendrik here from New Zealand,
I've come across trying to lift a heavy piece of material with a lever but with limited success. What I discovered works really well is to have a flat piece of material with the flat size less than the thickness of the spacers and the wide side wider than the thickness of the spacers. Also add an extra piece of material to make a "L" shape with which to lever. I hope my explanation makes sense. Cheers and thanks for the great video.
I love your mom's intro.
❤💙❤❤💙❤💙❤💙❤❤
id say this is the best milling video ive seen yet. that is a sweet set up. thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Putting in a good days work with your old man. Always a great time. Great video, Matt.
Turkey stuffing cranberry sauce, pie sweet tea, Mom Dad Sister and JR Max Lindsay...great time....oh yea after dinner with Dad and sawmill....priceless...
You bet! Great Thanksgiving this year :)
Noticable how you are good natured and easy to work. Dad just the same. Enjoy, it appeared fun was had
Any thing that you do with your Dad is a winner. Great to have them on video. All most people have is pictures and memories.
Watching you and your old man working together....so cool ! @22:46. "..were getting some nice quarter sawn ray flecks" :-) :-) from Devon UK.
Love this video!!! Red Oak dulls blades fast. Besides the residue buildup the bark is dirty and thick. Always worth chipping or peeling off whatever bark on the cut entry side for red oak.
I dig the new cut time graphic and your measurement conversion graphic. Nice job sync'ing the retraction sound of the physical tape with the retraction of the on-screen graphic!
#skillz
True, but also sweet attention to detail.
I love seeing you and your dad working together, and it's easy to see that he truly appreciates what you're doing. Cherish every minute you can spend together. There will come a day when you'll look back and be even more thankful than now for his support....and your mom is a character! LOL I cracked up at the little passive/aggressive 'ribbing' she was giving you. Reminds me of my own mom! Nice red oak, but the time with family is worth more than all the slabs you'll ever cut! :-)
Always giving me a hard time :D
Kudos to your great Dad 👍❤
His parents are so likeable iand his mom is just a darling. Such a sweet family
That log was a biggin! Nice to see father and son spending time together, cherish every minute of it.
You need a longer bar on that saw! Love your videos, thank you for them!
My bigger saws need some love. Probably should take care of them soon. thanks!
Great video! Nice to see you working with your father !
thanks!
Awesome video! I enjoyed seeing you work with your dad and getting a Christmas tree with your family.
Thanks mike!
Cherish every minute with him
Your dad humors you very well. I love him.
Your mom is cute and your parents are lucky people and you are a lucky man.
I enjoy your vids and your skillful craftsmanship.
Hi Matt, really great to see a family team work together
thanks Douglas!
I'm digging the new on-screen graphics.
Taking things to the next level!
Your dad was being helpful but I would shiver when I would see him lubricating the blade from the sharp side, and pulling on the saw, so close to the blade teeth.
Very awesome to see you sharing your passion with your family.
This was a awesome project. My hat is off to the both of you. Enjoyment with family and life long memories.
thanks Lyle!
A very cool vid, working with your dad makes for extra special wood. Your mom is a hoot!! Family, honest work, fabulous results and Christmas Tree to boot, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jeff!
yes roller bar, I'm stoked for you
Great job! Love to see the family involved.
Your Dad seems like a nice guy. Its kind of like me and my boys they are in their mid 40's and I am 65.
I love the way you show us each cut. That is the reason I look forward to all of your sawmill videos. God bless in the New Year. Hoping for larger logs.
Thank you Henry!
Work is no stranger to your family. Nice!
Watching this makes me very thankful I have a tractor to move logs and large slabs!!!
That is some awesome wood. It has so much personality. Incredible video with your family and Dad!
thanks Sonya!
Nice to see you with your dad working together awesome😎
thanks!
It had a few that was very beautiful
Enjoyed and Thumbs Up
Happy New Year. This will be something you both will remember!
The number one viewer requested activity - SLABBING!!! Thanks Matt
I stayed up late to get this finished for you 😄
@@mcremona I appreciate it! Someday I will have a sawmill and when I do I will give you one of my first slabs - you can hold me to that.
Well that was one of the sweetest interactions I’ve seen in a while. Can’t help but feel that an epic Mother and Son landing intro opportunity was sorely missed though.
hahahaha you're right. next time
Awesome log and great to see you working with your family.
thanks!
I'm sorry but I’m old school, to me the very best thing about this video is the sense of 'family', and the love within that unit. So sad it seems a rare thing to see in 2019.
Nice job! Great to see a video with your dad. Thanks.
thanks!
My boy was always my lil helper too. Now he's in his mid 30's and wants to flip houses with me. Lol. Don't forget to take it easy on the old man. We don't heal up like we used too.
Nice video and a nice tribute to your dad at the end of the video!
Of all the logs you've slabbed out this is my favorite. While filling all those cracks with black epoxy would be nice, I thought a blue similar to the Caribbean ocean would really bring out all the reds in this wood, just a thought Happy Woodworking
It’s always a pleasure watching proper Engineers solve problems, do you think your ancestors lived In Egypt and helped build the Pyramids? 😀
Thank you awesome video I really enjoy you and your family together God bless y’all
thanks!
man that is a beautiful bunch of lumber. hope you use the slabs for table tops.
Timmies coffee hey…….. looks like we have ourselves a southern CANUCK !!!!!
Great work Matt
thanks!
Man I miss my Dad...did a lot of fishing and camping.
Family fun, nothing better 🤙
I’ll bet your dad is proud of you! You can tell he likes to come visit. I’ll bet when he goes home he tells all his friends, you got to check me out on RUclips! I was waiting for your dad to do the closing, “thank you for watching, I greatly appreciate it...”. Maybe next time
Yeah we'll have to do it again :)
Wow! Great job. You made a humongous saw mill and then made it look tiny!
Nice job! Well done!
I gotta be honest, half a % of me wanted it to roll off the other side of the bed 😁
Seriously though, your Dad seems like a decent, humble man. I like him.
Will you be slabbin' up that Christmas tree once the holidays are over?
smallest slabs ever!
I bet that christmas trees cut in half lengthwise like that would be popular for people who had very limited space. You'd have to anchor-seal the entire cut to keep it from dying in a day...
Led lights sealed in the epoxy great atmosphere for mode lighting
Great video Matt. I'm 70 now and my dad left us in 2007 at 95. I wish he was still around so we could do things together like you do with your dad. Enjoy and love your parents while you can. Seeing you with your family was the best part of the video.
Thanks, William :)
❤👍👏👏
Looks like you need another 4' of track. I bet y'all ate more turkey after doing this. Lol Great vid Matt, I really enjoy watching that beast of a Bandsaw Mill go!
Lots of fun to watch. I won't tell you to be careful because I know your mom was there.
😂 you know it!
Great video 👍👍👍👍👍
Might I suggest investing in a cheap Harbor Freight 120volt AC pressure washer to blast out all the decay and organic materials on each slab prior to stacking. It would go a long way to slowing down any further decay/rotting during the seasoning time. The suggestion comes from my own experience with Alaskan mill sawn slabs.
Keep up the good work! 🙌
Very Nice your dad
Done watched 10 videos on sawing logs 🪵!
Awesome video as always Matt. I think it’s awesome you got to share this memory with your dad. And one day your little ones will be helping you.
That being said, I think now Is a good time to start the go fund me to purchase a tractor or telehandler to move all this when you guys sell the house.
Good job!
Another great video! I feel the same way about working with my Dad! Please put a guard on the motor belt!!!!
"Nice wall", making sawmilling great again!
hahahaha right!
Mom: "HI! I'm Matthew's mom!"
Matt: "...okay..."
lmao idk why but that cracked me up, similar interaction i would have with my mom.
