- Hi everyone and welcome to our channel. If you are wondering how to grow proteas from cuttings, then this is the perfect video for you!
As a part of our series on protea propagation, we are going to show you how to grow these plants from cuttings! We are going to use a Leucospermum, or pincushion, species for our demonstration. This shrub is a member of the proteaceae family and is one of many plants that make up the fynbos vegetation in Southern Africa.
While we will be focusing on only 1 species today, you can apply these methods to most members of the protea family! Hey Leila,
You can definately try. However, the stems may have become a bit woody by the time they were ready for harvest, and try to use fresh flowers. You can perhaps use a stronger rooting hormone if the stems are a bit woody. Let us know if you have tried and have any success!
What season should I be doing this please? Is November spring where you live please? I live in UK (south)
Hello! We made these cuttings in the middle of winter in South Africa. The new flush of growth had some time to harden, so try the bend test to see if they are at the correct stage
