Im guessing they did the lock feature on the up down buttons on the microphone so someone doesnt accidentally change channels, I did this a couple of times and wondered why my friend stopped talking to me.
Wich one of the three do you turn up or you turn up them all the carrier , average and pep. Cause its been my experience that when you go past a cearten threshhold you loose audio the audio clipsand or distorts, and you have to back the rf power back to get more modulation.

mine dont have that lock for the chennels on the mic what the deal with that
The first batch of radios that came to America didn't have the option.
I'm not sure why they added it or what it's actual purposes.
what numbers are you getting on receive on the Washington?
The receiver sensitivity is very good.
