Let me give you some clarity why they did this. The writers wanted Sam & Gabriel together for an episode and Dean & Ketch alone together for an episode. This is their final attempt to redeem Ketch, since Dean is the one who most hates him and has more of a history with him than Sam, so it means more if Dean is the one to forgive him. As for the other pairing, aside from love interest, Gabriel is one of the few reoccurring characters who has more of a relationship or at least interacts more with Sam than Dean, so the writers want to build on that bound some more. Personally while I do love the brothers together its nice to change to the pace of things and have them go on their own every now and then.

Someone else made a comment on this scene that I agree with "This scene shows how much smarter Dean is than Sam as the big brother, guardian, mother/father figure in his life. What he said made a lot of sense. A brilliant strategy to keep them both safe. If both he and Sam are in the war zone dimension they'll just hold each other back or both of em will possibly die in there. If something happens to only one of them at least the other brother is on the other side to do a spell or something and drag Dean back. Anything could happen. He doesn't care what happens to Ketch in there, he cares what happens to Sam. Its a risky but well thought out decision on Dean's part. Love this show. Arguably the best onscreen chemistry ever between Jensen and Jared"

Dean wants to get his mom and his kid, he's not wanting to risk the other half of his family also.

3:33 well he was in Scooby-Doo, so it's nice to see Dean have a little bit of fun with it

Love your SPN reactions, but I gotta disagree with you because it makes sense that Sam and Dean split up. If something goes wrong at least Sam can go and save Dean, Mary and Jack. Somebody also has to stay and watch Gabriel and they were not going to leave Ketch in the bunker with him. And Dean can keep an eye on Ketch and if he gets killed over there then that's great too.

Personally, I do think it makes sense for one of them to stay behind. As far as they know, there's absolutely no way for them to open the rift from the other end, and they definitely don't want to be stuck there. Was Dean a bossy ass with no patience when he made this decision? Yes, completely.

Anyone else think "send him to rhoade island" sounds worse the " go to hell"

So we go from an episode about a wholesome cartoon to episode about a hentai monster?
Only in Supernatural would that make any sense
