- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- Just days before everything shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brendan Benson was putting together his touring rig to support his new album, Dear Life. Benson was cool enough to open up his Nashville studio to Premier Guitar’s John Bohlinger to sit in on the process and extract the new details on both his live and studio setups not seen in the 2014 episode.

It’s criminal that Brendan isn’t on the same level solo as he his with the raconteurs. Every album he’s recorded is solid.
One Mississippi from day 1
Well we have one raconteur. Now we need the other. Jack White please. Something I'd love to see
RIP Brendan's solo tour :(
shat myself! thankfully it was just the tour, phew!
I'd go see Brendan Benson if he did the entire One Mississippi album. It's a masterpiece and would be killer live.
After everything gets back to normal, a Jack White Rig Rundown would be great!
yes pleaseee!!!
Skyline guitar, big muff pedal, Twin Reverb amp
solid track listing of records since 1996, both solo and of course the Racs. Thanks BB & premier guitar
Have you heard the new one yet? Is it any good?
@@barneymiller5488 just the two tracks that are available so far. they're different from one another sonically, both very cool
This was awesome to watch!! I am a huge Raconteurs fan. Will check out Bensons solo stuff now after watching this. Very down to earth rig rundown !!
I just got into Brendan's songs recentelly... he's great, his songs really cheer me up and took me off a bad place that I've been lately, in these already dark times we've been livin'... also, I love John Bohlinger's videos, the dude is really excited about stuff, he's such a great interviewer, he knows how to come with right questions and listen who he's interviewing, and always with a smile! great dude! cheers from Brazil!
21:00 "and this is what I do for a living" 😁😁😁💰
Is there any chance of a Marty Stuart and ‘Cousin’ Kenny Vaughn Rig Rundown please? These guys are all killer and no filler musicians and it would be great to see how they get their unique sounds plus view the very first B Bender made by Clarence White, a special instrument in guitar history.
Those Caroline pedals are awesome. “Here’s a picture of a house.” Best part, haha.
avocado toast knob for the win
Brendan is so underrated
I know it didn't really age well, considering the time we live in, but that Marshall is the one
Wow, that Gibson Country Western ... that's THE SOUND.
And I bet it's way cheaper than that Gibson J45 gold top. I have a sunburst 45 and it was almost 2 grand. But I'd trade it for the C&W. Maybe plywood is the way to go?
@@barneymiller5488 one of my favorite acoustics is a plywood back & sides ( Mahogany ) but with a solid spruce top and the tone on that thing blows me away everytime I play it. Especially when I remember I only spent $300 for it new during a sale at GC. It's very vibrant for mahogany and I really think that has to do with it not being solid.
He may not consider himself a singer/songwriter but I definitely do. His solo albums were awesome. So happy he's back at it.
17:00 "they need to figure out there labeling (...) if they want to sell it" :-) I'm french and thanks to him, now i understand this expression "figure out"
Marshall is surprisingly crisp and clear. Echo park is muddyish. Have always been curious about their amps.
This is now my favorite episode by far.
I need that avocado toast pedal on my pedalboard.
Super cool Brendan
Funny it almost came out on 4-20 since they were both stoned like hell XD
Crazy, I just found Brendan's song "What I'm Looking For" in my Google Drive from a burned CD someone gave me in the mid-2000s. Like a week ago. And I didn't know he was in the Raconteurs! Didn't know what happened to him at all after that song. Turns out, a lot! Good to hear!
Please, make a Rig Rundown with Fink ! This would be sooooo nice !
that gold guitar in the intro might be the coolest guitar I've ever seen!
Which one? There's more than one gold guitar in this rundown.
It's pretty rad
John your getting old just like me at 63 ,
stay safe , stay healthy , God Bless .
Love the Bohlinger varible-tone hair in the videos these days ;)
Oh man his first album changed my life ! 😍
Marshall for me Brendan. As ever a great Rig Rundown as John.
I agree..just a touch of Phase (Phase 90, etc) adds just that lil bit of texture to your sound...Dig it!
Run 'em both together!
Really nice to see some Echopark gear out here. Definitely one of the finest and by far my favorite guitars
Gabriel makes the coolest shit, no doubt.
We’d see a lot more of them if there was a more affordable line.

Yeah. He almost nailed the tone of my Harley Benton with this one.
I love the look of that EchoPark. I recently bought a new ( old stock ) 2017 Epi Lee Malia RD Artisan ( don't scoff at it being Epi, these things are made unique in Indo and assembled in the US just as great if not better than my Gibson ) and it has the same pup combination. A Gibson USA 84TLM humbucker in the bridge and a Gibson USA P94 in the neck. Also has a dummy coil built in the middle to cancel hum from the P90 and split humbucker. I absolutely love those pickup combinations tho, endless tones. I'm glad alot of manufactures are taking up on that combo now. You get the best of both worlds. Looked up that model of EchoPark tho and they're $7000 😅😩 They look and sound great tho! Brendan killed it on his new album too! So good.
His shoes, what brand are they... :)
Refreshing to see a buddy full of guitars and who doesn't care about geeky stuff. Makes my day.
Oh my, each and every one of these electric guitars is hotter than the previous, but how I wish I would have plugged the MotorAve Belaire in, just for a moment .. damn you, you daydreaming stoner Brendan
I would love to be in your backing band Brendon
Can you play the drum fills in Cold Hands Warm Heart?
Use both! But yeah, the Marshall sounded great.
Did you guys get super high before filming this?
Thought the same, the interviewer does alright, but Brendan is definately blazed.
The Marshall sounded like it’d cut a little more. A little more sparkle. So I vote Marshall.
awesome episode. lovin' brendan's george-harrison-haircut!
Great show. I vote for the Magnatone every day of the week!
The way has been set up the Echopark amp is little bit too dark, maybe it needs to be tweek it. So at the end for what we can hear i say all the way the Marshall amp!
Maybe it's just the settings, but I liked the Marshall. Echo Park was too muffled sounding.
Cumberland River Marshall for sure.
I was recently surfing the web and found an article saying BB is quite skilled
Anyone know specifically which new balance 998’s these are?
999 'Duck Camo' - New Balance - M999NI
Please do jack white
Initial impressions...... Marshall. It just cuts and allows the guitar to poke out with everything else going on. Sweet ,sweet guitars. All warm and fuzzy.
The Rona Rundown. Nice
Wouldn't you be curious to hear a pedal with avocado toast and a house on it?
I would.
its the reverb pedal, he goes through it
those shoes though
Idk how John does it
Oh man...give him a beer and he's streaking down the highway. That's guitar player you want in your band to steal a show
Marshall
Marshall,... all the way.
Such a cool guy. I think HE'S the song writing genius behind Raconteurs. Obviously not the "star" that Jack White but just a solid guitar player and great songwriter. Help Me Stranger is such a great record. Can't wait to hear this solo stuff. Bummer he most likely had to cancel his tour like everyone.
F*uck this stupid virus.
I've got castanet FINGERS!
could the bridge on the echopark be a tv jones??
You get the idea that he spends his time playing and writing, and pays almost zero attention to much else?
Everything is just hands on, how it plays and sounds, and could care less how or why? You need at least one guy like that, to balance out others with opposite inclinations .
Also seems to spend a lot of time visiting his local weed shop.
So what studio is that that he's talking about in the beginning? The one that got torn down?
Weird session... what's that all about?
Like Mr. B's music both solo and as a Raconteur but this was not my fave episode. I wish he'd been more knowledgeable about his own gear. Also, that Gibson gold top acoustic is gorgeous. If only it sounded as good as it looks.
He's probably too busy touring to read the latest forum posts.
He’s a simple guy man... some people don’t like geeking over gear (although I love geeking over gear) and just wanna play. He’s a simple player, writes solid music, and has a simple understanding of his gear. Much love for brendon
@@jacoballen2374: I hear ya loud and clear. But this is not the forum for that. Rig Rundown is a place for us to geek out and learn interesting tidbits about the gear the artist uses. Maybe if he'd talked more about what each piece inspired him to write/play...
MARSHALL NO CONTEST
White pants before Memorial Day, what a rebel.
hey @echoparkguitars
or @echoparkinstruments
Stop stalking over the top of your interviewees!
So funny ❤️
If anyone is wondering about the Toast and House on the "Millennial Edition" pedal:
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/may/15/australian-millionaire-millennials-avocado-toast-house
Gotta go Echopark on the amp. Much more fuller.
Bridge pickup looks like a maxon
The dude has little to noooo idea what's going on with his gear! lol No disrespect intended.
My dad was surprised he is a famous musician. My dad is a guitar instructor and he said guy is basically a beginner haha. no disrespect meant either but there is almost an infinite amount of talent separating him and lets say ......Yngwie.
Even though he said that he isn't a singer songwriter, that's exactly what he is. He's not a shredder he's just a really talented guy!
@@cruedevil71 depends what you consider talent. this guy writes cool songs and yngwie plays notes in a fast succession
@@callandemoI never said he was talentless or a bad songwriter. In fact I just might have every the Raconteurs CD if all the own is 3?
"Plays notes in a fast succession" While this statement is true all by itself, its what you left out that
nullifies any critique you may have on the subject of music in general.
Y’all are high... amiright😂
Seems like they both checked out Brendan's "Weed Rig", before shooting this.
He used the R word.
Echopark!
10:00 He might explain it. If there is a run of the mill Fender sitting around, Bollinger will gloss over the D'Angelico as fast as possible and start asking about the Fender, as if nobody knows what a Fender is about. You can already tell Bollinger is super bored. He's probably thinking "Where's the Fenders? Where's the Gibsons? Get me out of here! This sux!" He started grabbing at that blue tele looking guitar and you could see the disappointment wash across his face when he realized it wasn't a Fender. He was grabbing at it for like a minute because he thought it was a Fender. "Ahh, not a Fender, let's talk about something else."
I get it Brendan is cool, high or whatever but he is pretty hard to interview. He doesnt know how anything works, or what to do with anithing. It gave me anxiety just for seeing this.
Anyone know the rig rundown that features this guitar sounded like taz
Echo park isn’t a nice area anymore.
I wish there was less sycophantism .. it's hard to understand the interviewer with his tung so far up everyone's rectum just nodding and saying yeah yeah ( I'm almost afraid he'll choke on a dingle berry ?)
You guys are really scraping the barrel lately. Terrible or unknown players with terrible tones. This rundown was atrocious.
You clearly haven't listened to Brendan Benson. Maybe he can't play too well but he can write great songs and his albums are very well produced.
@@LouisCrosland I don't tune in to a "RIG RUNDOWN" to watch a player who can't play and doesn't know how to use the gear or what the "knobs" on a pedal do.
The whole point of the videos is to help players learn and understand how players use their gear to get their tones. This guy knew NOTHING.
Mark O, what is your band’s name? Have I heard your music recently on alternative radio by any chance?
Take it easy Mark, terribly degrading remarks.
