She represents Tahiti at its best from yester-year! she captures movement, feeling and attitude of how our mothers, grandmothers & great grandmothers would have performed! it is raw, contemporary, powerful, she hails from a long line of beautiful and strong dancers and not someone who thinks they just learnt how to dance today that they know it all! you can only have that gift and love for dance passed onto you thru blood, lineage & title!
I've seen many vahines dance like her, it's so refreshing. Not the ''I know it all'' up thight vibe I get from many ori dancers in the US! No wonder Nonahere has won the Heiva I Tahiti several times, besides O'TAHITI'E! mauruuru
Those who condem this style of Ori does so from their basic knowledge...they do and know Ori Tahiti, but they only know the basic standardization form from what they are taught to be able to compete at the Fete and Heiva, on stage, at venues, and festivals in the US. But the historical aspect, often passed down through generations and culture, NO! So they think that anything different from what they know are standard form and basics, is modern! Glad that someone could share their knowledge :D
i loved it!! totally took me back some years... nowadays, everyone seems to be so technical which is great... i remember watching videos as a little girl and like someone else said... raw movements, lots of passion... it's nice to see how dancing has evolved... it's also nice to see people being able to appreciate both styles of dancing, all styles of dancing anyway. great job! taking it back old school!
WOW ive always thought Cook Island drumming rivaled that of Tahitian. But this drum technique is dynamite! Polynesian dance is so Hypnotic and when they dance you just cant help but stare as if caught in a spell
I'm Chamoru and I dance Tahitian. I grew up appreciating island dancing. Im very disappointed to see so much hate and criticism. Her shoulders this, ew her legs, it's traditinal, it's not traditional.. Shame shame.. Humble yourselves and respect each other! We are brothers and sisters.. The spirit of dance is for anyone and everyone.. I don't care who has won and who has not.. If someone can have the spirit of dance run through their soul then it is beautiful! Let it be and share the passion.. Show love because traditional or not, being gifted with the spirit of dance is an honor.. respect it and everyone who appreciates it.. I am no better than the person I speak ill about and neither are you
Iaorana. traditional/classical steps are : feet flat and knees closed, NEVER spread apart. Modern : on toes and sometimes legs spread appart. That's the unique differences mauruuru
I also appreciate the cultural knowledge everyone is sharing because I love learning about my roots and the roots of other Islanders.. There are roots to every thing and being knowledgeable is a way to honor the ancestors who started it all..
You guys still arguing? LOL I think she's great! Dancing is an art. True art encourages freedom of expression. Jacqueline CLEARLY has the skill & talent. I do not doubt that she can steady her shoulders if she wanted to. But that was not the form she was expressing in this video. Thank you to those of you who shared little pieces of history in the subject of Tahitian Dance. I learn new stuff every day. ;)
she is gorgeous. What i like the most is from the minutes counts from 1:02 till the end of her performance . it is very entertaining . nice body movements . kudos to miss jacqueline . more of her tahitian performance on you tube ?
Chee hoo! Beautiful! Makes me miss dancing so much. For all the critics, try just appreciating the diversity of style. Your and your kumu's way is not the only way.
so beatiful my god i feel the beauty of this women in my heart, i wish i could be so beauty as she is, she is a real beauty, what she gaves with her dance is pure beauty, thnk god for the beauty.
well, I agree, but not on the last part, that this can only be done if you're real tahitian, but well, people are alowed to think whatever they want...
Ahhh, you people are too funny! This is old style dance, the shoulders and everything moves! I know this woman personally and she is a very beautiful dancer so please stop criticizing something you know absolutely NOTHING about. I agree 100% with Gille87
Hi Vanessa, TKU for your message, you know Miss Alexandre was a very good dancer and still...So about the rest, it's not important critics are easy, to be a good female dancer from Tahiti that's a lot different than bla bla...Dance as you like and keep Tahiti Dance, because, it'terrific. Take care and thanks. Gil TheTahitiMagician
To everyone trying to sound like "Tahitian dancing 101" please educate yourself of their style of dancing. The way she dances is, old school Tahitian dancing. Who gives a crap if shoulders move, leg apart....just shhh and appreciate the video and the dancer. I don't see you winning any competitions, or a video? So please, stop criticizing her and just watch.
The whole point of any type of island dance is to tell a story, whether it's Tahitian,, hula or Siva Samoa appreciate and respect the culture, she's beautiful.
I come from a lineage of dancers (Hawaii, Samoa) and at no time wheather modern or ancient are your shoulder supposed to move. Also tip toes are a no no and is a way of cheating. Shoulders down, feet flat are what the real professionals do. This girl is has all the right tools to be a a great dancer. Perfect hair perfert body shape and excellent hips. However, has a lot of bad habits. And never walk into the next transition of movement. If she worked on these simple rules she can be the best!
@SanDiegoRoyalty im cookie, and i went to Tahiti and ii come from a dance line too everything yuh said is how i wos grown up too so i soo agree buh tahiti people dance like that soo yeeah its beauty foah them hahr
hey I think you're right. I would like to know (because I'm learning the dance) when she´s on the floor doing like waves with her body...it' fine or not? I've never seen before a dancer doing this....but well like I said I'm new with this.
@obikelaulbai well just b'cuz u do dances that are not ur culture doesn't mean ur a wannabe! Then we all are wannabe black, latino and so on! It's easy to be the judge of others?
iKnow her. it is a tatoo by the way. and just to let you know Nonahere has been winning Heiva I Tahiti for the past five years in a row. so iGuess they must be doing something right nothing weird appearently
@yannahz7 erhmmmm this is my culture...... my family is very traditional in the way that all the girls are broght up to dance traditionally. i only thought it was modern because its become so sexualised
what the heck man ok titabrah you need to realize that that is how tahition people danced(it is concidered old style or tahito) Now there are many groups like hui tama nui that dance both contemperary and old style. go to a practice
SanDiegoRoyalty...sorry to burst your bubble but her shaking her shoulders and legs apart is the old way of Tahitian dancing, te keeping still of the upper body was added later on in the years when the missionaries hit the islands to make it more graceful. You obviously didn't know that because you come from a long line of Hawaiins and Samoans..loL no offense, u should look into that tho,
the vahine in this video is KILLING ME CUZ HER SHOULDERS ARE SO GOD AWFUL AND HER LEGS TO WIDE SPREAD APART. GET MORE TRAINING SISTA.......GOOD DRUMMING!!!
I agree. She lacks too much in technique. It looks dirty and all over the place, exactly for the reasons heinui mentioned: her shoulders move way too much and her legs are too far apart; the choreography looks messy and not much can be appreciated. It looks like she just wanted to show off -- forgetting all technique with it.
Different styles, she's dancing in the most traditional way tahitians dance! She's not dancing in "academic" style, that's the only difference. She's totally amazing! No Messy at all, she's pure fire 🔥
She is very good! Have not seen dancing like that since Papeete and Moorea 1986 ... took me back to the islands for a minute. Wow!

You always bring wisdom!

traditional/classical steps are :
feet flat and knees closed, NEVER spread apart.

Dude! She hardly danced with her legs closed. l0l! I meant, with her feet together and kept moving her upper body(alot). But she had good moves!
Two words: MEREANI TUMAHAI! :P

is she supposed to shake her shoulders like?
thumps up tho for being graceful....
iKnow her. it is a tatoo by the way. and just to let you know Nonahere has been winning Heiva I Tahiti for the past five years in a row. so iGuess they must be doing something right nothing weird appearently

shes good she should just close her legs and try not to move her shoulders as much. it looks a little crazy to me like too much in too little time
SanDiegoRoyalty...sorry to burst your bubble but her shaking her shoulders and legs apart is the old way of Tahitian dancing, te keeping still of the upper body was added later on in the years when the missionaries hit the islands to make it more graceful. You obviously didn't know that because you come from a long line of Hawaiins and Samoans..loL no offense, u should look into that tho,
She is pretty good but moves her sholders WAY too much. It would be better if she didn't shimmy her shoulders when doing fast shake.
beyonce ent want nothin
was a bit too modern for me but shes very very good
the vahine in this video is KILLING ME CUZ HER SHOULDERS ARE SO GOD AWFUL AND HER LEGS TO WIDE SPREAD APART. GET MORE TRAINING SISTA.......GOOD DRUMMING!!!
her nose looks weird
What a stupid comment you know nothing about my culture you're a middle east dancer and you think. You know our dance .!!
By the way she's my cousin and we are Tahitians I think we know what is right .
Different styles, she's dancing in the most traditional way tahitians dance! She's not dancing in "academic" style, that's the only difference. She's totally amazing!
No Messy at all, she's pure fire 🔥
@@motivnation3555 I'm so jealous, I wish I could dance like her
