She is very good! Have not seen dancing like that since Papeete and Moorea 1986 ... took me back to the islands for a minute. Wow!

She represents Tahiti at its best from yester-year! she captures movement, feeling and attitude of how our mothers, grandmothers & great grandmothers would have performed! it is raw, contemporary, powerful, she hails from a long line of beautiful and strong dancers and not someone who thinks they just learnt how to dance today that they know it all! you can only have that gift and love for dance passed onto you thru blood, lineage & title!

I've seen many vahines dance like her, it's so refreshing. Not the ''I know it all'' up thight vibe I get from many ori dancers in the US! No wonder Nonahere has won the Heiva I Tahiti several times, besides O'TAHITI'E! mauruuru

Those who condem this style of Ori does so from their basic knowledge...they do and know Ori Tahiti, but they only know the basic standardization form from what they are taught to be able to compete at the Fete and Heiva, on stage, at venues, and festivals in the US. But the historical aspect, often passed down through generations and culture, NO! So they think that anything different from what they know are standard form and basics, is modern! Glad that someone could share their knowledge :D

i loved it!! totally took me back some years... nowadays, everyone seems to be so technical which is great... i remember watching videos as a little girl and like someone else said... raw movements, lots of passion... it's nice to see how dancing has evolved... it's also nice to see people being able to appreciate both styles of dancing, all styles of dancing anyway. great job! taking it back old school!

I'm Chamoru and I dance Tahitian. I grew up appreciating island dancing. Im very disappointed to see so much hate and criticism. Her shoulders this, ew her legs, it's traditinal, it's not traditional.. Shame shame.. Humble yourselves and respect each other! We are brothers and sisters.. The spirit of dance is for anyone and everyone.. I don't care who has won and who has not.. If someone can have the spirit of dance run through their soul then it is beautiful! Let it be and share the passion.. Show love because traditional or not, being gifted with the spirit of dance is an honor.. respect it and everyone who appreciates it.. I am no better than the person I speak ill about and neither are you

    Iaorana.
    traditional/classical steps are :
feet flat and knees closed, NEVER spread apart.
    Modern :
on toes and sometimes legs spread appart.
    That's the unique differences

    You guys still arguing? LOL
I think she's great! Dancing is an art. True art encourages freedom of expression. Jacqueline CLEARLY has the skill & talent. I do not doubt that she can steady her shoulders if she wanted to. But that was not the form she was expressing in this video. Thank you to those of you who shared little pieces of history in the subject of Tahitian Dance. I learn new stuff every day. ;)

Who gives a crap if shoulders move, leg apart....just shhh and appreciate the video and the dancer. I don't see you winning any competitions, or a video? I come from a lineage of dancers (Hawaii, Samoa) and at no time wheather modern or ancient are your shoulder supposed to move. Also tip toes are a no no and is a way of cheating. Shoulders down, feet flat are what the real professionals do. This girl is has all the right tools to be a a great dancer. Perfect hair perfert body shape and excellent hips. However, has a lot of bad habits. And never walk into the next transition of movement. If she worked on these simple rules she can be the best!

SanDiegoRoyalty...sorry to burst your bubble but her shaking her shoulders and legs apart is the old way of Tahitian dancing, te keeping still of the upper body was added later on in the years when the missionaries hit the islands to make it more graceful. You obviously didn't know that because you come from a long line of Hawaiins and Samoans..loL no offense, u should look into that tho,

I agree. She lacks too much in technique. It looks dirty and all over the place, exactly for the reasons heinui mentioned: her shoulders move way too much and her legs are too far apart; the choreography looks messy and not much can be appreciated.
It looks like she just wanted to show off -- forgetting all technique with it.
