Oh really----- At least with most tornados, especially these days, unless one forms above & then drops on you, you have a chance. Same with like tidal waves & hurricanes, but with an earthquake you get zip. There's no storm, no hail, no warning sirens, no forewarning at all, just BOOM! Rock & Roll. House Falls, trees topple, bridges & freeways come down.
aiden pearce nija del is right but then again u sure as hell can hear screams and your heart beating in one of them and I am pretty sure you floods aren't completely silent. You should be able too hear something.
For anyone outside of Tornado Alley who has'nt experienced this: that high pitched howling wind sound that starts right after the sirens, (around 2:40), is spot-on! Hardly ever do recordings capture that mixed roaring/howling sound. When you hear that, you instinctively realize what it is, even if you've never heard it before. The Andover, Ks Tornado-1991 sounded just like that.
Yes, but sound is very slow among far distances but it travels if its loud enough, that's why we are capable to break the sound barrier with just a jet!
Rockstar2016 I live in Pensacola and they go off before major hurricanes (last time was Ivan in 2004) and I remember even as a kid the terror that would grip my heart when I would hear that siren and know "it's here.... its here.... ITS HERRRREEEEEEEEEE"
Rockstar2016 Ahem...when it is used for tornadoes, it only means that rotation has been spotted, NOT that a tornado has actually touched the ground. I've heard sirens many, MANY times during my life and a tornado never ripped through town. Also, they go off for testing/practice once a month, weekly in some places.
The scariest sound ever is the sound you hear seconds before an earthquake. It's like a terrifying rumbling sound coming from under the earth. It begins really silent an slowly gets louder and louder and you just know something bad is going to happen. Scary.
Its still cool its just that when mother nature can't take the bullshit anymore she would u know makes those disasters to show mankind that she angry and so is god cuzz all of the shit that we sometimes do on earth is u know fucked up so sometimes u should think twice like or reply if u agree:-)
To all the people that think lightning is silent, you're wrong. Lightning produces a sudden expansion of air which causes a sonic boom, the sonic boom is what people refer as "thunder". So thunder is the noise lightning creates. I'm sorry but its almost annoying to see the amount of people that are completely ignorant to this fact.
That tornado sound, is nothing like a real tornado. I live in the Midwest and am in tornado alley (missouri). Ive witnessed and been in a few. It sounds like a freight train roaring mixed with rain and thunder. Then add in the debris of trees houses etc. Not a sound i can even describe in text. The worst part of being in one is not only the damage but everything being sucked up around you, everything you love, cherished. Gone In a few minutes.. Your ears feel like they are going to explode, the wind is so strong it sounds like a high pitch screaming #ripjoplin
Katie Simmons ya I was in a f4 in 2013. Scariest moment of my life. I'll never forget the sounds and the pure force. I held my husband and my dad and we kinda said our goodbyes. Most terrifying thing ever. When I was a lil girl growing up I was always fascinated of em but I'd ever wish anyone to be in the middle of one. So scary
Tornado sirens have to be one of the most ominous sounding things. Where I live we hardly get tornadoes so it's extra scary when you hear a siren go off during a storm. Freaky shit!
I have experienced a tornadic situation in Huron, SD back in 2013. I remember looking out a window towards the west and all I saw was black and green skies (yes, it actually was green). Then the sirens went off and my blood froze. Thankfully, the tornado (which I think was an EF2) was never less than a couple miles outside the city limits. There was still danger because 80 mph straight line winds swept through the town. I will never forget that. Then, I had another close call with one of the storm systems on June 16 (I think), 2014, where I had to core punch through a storm near Mitchell, SD. I think bad weather likes me :P
Is it okay if I use some of your tornado sounds for my school play? There's a part where a hurricane destroys the main characters' home and this recording is the best I've found so far.
Lightning does make a sound. I lived up in the mountains and spent 90% of my time outdoors when i was younger (Especially during spring and summer), so I've had a couple close calls with lightning. As you'd expect from a huge electrical charge, it makes a loud snap, crack, or crackling noise in case of multiple strokes. But usually lightning is too far away to hear the crack, or the thunder drowns it out. But one time i was working outside when a storm was coming in, and before i knew it there was a blinding flash and a loud "Snap!" which was almost instantly followed by deafening thunder. Of course i ran like hell and by the time i got to the house the thunder was still going from that strike!! I was stunned for a sec because i actually thought i was hit for a moment!
I've had lightning strike less than 20 meters away from me. I swear it is the loudest sound I have ever heard. It rattles you right to the bone. I've also had the misfortune of driving in the middle of nowhere during a tornado, and it sounds so much worse than any recording could ever give it credit for, even from a mile out, the sound of the wind ripping is terrifying.
Not rlly, cuz volcanos aren't in much of the areas, only in places like Hawaii it would be a very bad disasters, talking about USA: probably a tornado or even a hurricane
Joni Neziri I recommend looking up more on different forms of volcanoes and what causes them to happen, look up faults, then the Ring of Fire, hot spots, history, Krakatoa and the volcanoes in the Indonesian islands, and Phillippines like Pinatubo, and then the USA, the Volcanoes in Alaska, St. Helens, Rainier, Baker, Hood, Mammoth, and Yellowstone (the Caldera, and find out what causes those geysers to happen), the volcanoes in Mexico, Piracutin is interesting, then the ones in South America, like in Chile Columbia. Then there is Europe, Etna (acitve), Stromboli (active), Vusuvius (dormant), I believe there is a volcano in Spain. Now in Africa (I like their volcanoes more than Hawaii) Nyiragongo (biggest lava lake in the world) and its sister Nicaragua, Erta Ale, Oin Doyle Lengai (bicarbonatite lava), Fogo, and Piton De La Fournaise (I have videos of it to my favorites if you are interested?) Then the volcanoes in Japan, and Iwo Jima, (alot of our men in WW2 died camping on that island from the sulphur fumaroles) and there is many more that I probably dont know about, but they are out there. The dangers, it is not just lava (it does however describe a volcano), fumaroles with poisonous gases, like sulfur dioxide, sulfuric acid, chloride chemicals and more, then the ash cloud when it blots out the sun and rains little particles from its clouds and tops building roofs until they collapse, lava flows (depends on the kind of volcano, lava is quicker from nonexolosive volcanoes, and lava is slow from explosive volcanoes), and the worst the pyroclastic flow, the ash avalanche faster than an airplane (450) mph, but hotter than an oven 700-1300 degrees F. Anyways, this is what I recommend looking up.
Joni Neziri Yellowstone? Prolly gonna be one of the biggest natural disasters to ever happen when it erupts, which will be sooner than later. Most likely not in your lifetime tho, hopefully.
***** It's not that tornadoes themselves are funny, but the Wilhelm scream is so prolific that abruptly hearing it in such an intense moment is hilarious. It ruins the immersion and breaks the tension. If you watch a video with real people screaming as it barrels down on them, though.... It's horrifying.
So I have this app on my phone, called myRadar. It's a good weather app for tracking storms but it has the WORST notification tone ever. The notification tone is literally the beeping of a NWS alert. The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. It even does that when it's only a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, or not even a weather alert, if it's like a flood warning it still does it... I had a heart attack when it just went off at like 1:00 AM.
If I'm not mistaken I believe that first image of the forest fire and the deer was taken in Jefferson County, Colorado around 2002. When I was in college in Denver, one of my professors worked for the sheriffs department of that county and he talked about how one of the deputies was the first to respond to this fire. He showed us this same absolutely terrifying photo and said something like "imagine looking over a hill in the middle of the night and seeing this coming at you."
Have to agree, tornado and hurricane force winds are not something you ever want to hear outside your window. Thanks to Sandy, my nerves STILL set on edge every time a wind storm picks up here in my area of NJ.
As having experienced a tornado, beforehand there is constant lightning, just booming and no stop, worse than lightning. Then suddenly very high pitched whirling wind, even whistling.
I heard a landslide once. On a field trip we got to stay at Frankslide, alberta. We stayed over-night and I kept hearing rocks falling down the mountain. Frankslide is haunted too, so I kept expecting to see a spirit. So many people died in the Frankslide rock slide and I thought I was gonna join them when I heard the rocks. Not alot of rocks, just the occasional one falling down the mountain.
Because in the beginning it sounds like a train going down the tracks (if you listen close enough) and the howling of the wind might or might not remind you of the whistle. Try living next to train tracks like i do and you might notice the similarities between the two.
+Atium “AtomicPower” Hydro Dude,it's a mega cyclone,it's not a freaking supercell because if it was,it wouldn't have the shape,as in,a supercell has a downdraft and a updraft,this thing doesn't it's just a massive spinning cloud..
I live in Oklahoma. The state of absolute tornado breeding grounds. We had the biggest tornado recorded in history, the May 31st, 2013. I was not in the direct way of the path of this 2.6 mile long beast but unfortunately my friend was. Nothing was left of her house. NOTHING. She had to live with us with no clothes other than mine which sucked ass. This thing lasted for 16.2 miles and killed four storm chasers in the process. If you hear one of those sirens you better haul ass. We had schools crushing children in its remains, a drive in theater, a HOSPITAL, and a MALL torn apart in mere seconds. I don't recommend coming here.
I lived in the midwest for six years, and I can say that the sounds of the sirens going off before the tornado is a helluva lot more scary than the sound of the actual twister, especially if the sirens are blaring and you can't see the damn thing.
I lived in Moore Oklahoma and most of you know what happened there and I'm happy I'm living in Michigan now. I been in the EF5 tornado and lost my best-friend, Aunt, and Uncle. The Tornado sounds nothing like a Tornado but the sirens, well done.
Try closing your eyes while the Tornado one is playing. Imagine yourself being alone in a small wooden house, somewhere on a large, wide field. You're sitting on the floor, knowing the Tornado is coming. You hope it's not hitting you, so you close your eyes and hope for the best... This is most scary experience I've ever had in my life, tbh. Except for the Wilhelm Scream, that killed the mood XD
Rocky Road Lightning is what "thunder" comes from. The reason you see lightning first is because light travels faster than sound. The closer the lightning, the less time it takes for you to hear the thunder. You can't have lightning without thunder and vice versa. c:

Whenever you hear those sirens, you know you’re screwed. Fortunately, the ones in my town give ample warning, as they are automatically triggered when a tornado or other storm with 65+ mph winds has been spotted within 5 miles of the county.
personally i think the worst sound is the crack in someone's voice before they cry, or the sound chewing with your mouth open makes omfg. but the worst disaster sound (to me) is a tornado
When you hear those sirens, you know you are about to have a very very bad day
yup
They went off today! I'm kinda scared since there will be a tornado warning at eleven pm
I've only experienced a tornado once. I was younger at the time and it didn't hit my house.
Darkclaw Draws The Alabama- Mississippi tornado?
I live in uk we don't have tornados, so I've never hear sirens or experienced one.

Thunder is what you hear. Lightning is what you see.
Yes, but sound is very slow among far distances but it travels if its loud enough, that's why we are capable to break the sound barrier with just a jet!
PizzaShibe Yeah, lightning causes thunder

My thoughts exactly! I feel you man, living in Texas, I've been through tons too. The sounds they had weren't even 1/100 as scary as reality.

Rusticabcd 3:13
3:14 Was it really necessary to add in the Wilhelm Scream?
Well.. That scream is very popular so.. Yeah:P
I love the sound of nature! It's the only sound that can never be mixed or tampered with because it's all original!
thunder relaxes me... i think im the only person who sits outside during a storm.
Nah so do I
Me too
All the time, dood.
trust me i love thunder storms :P
Same here. Thunderstorms are cool.

Since when was lightning considered a natural disaster?
Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn I
Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn when it strikes your house

same but i was playing minecraft when it happened i nearly fell out of my seat when the lightning struck it scared me so bad
So tornadoes are just basically Silent Hill
DUDE THIS IS AMAZING.
Wilhelm scream completely took the seriousness away.
This is so calming idk why
I would place tornadoes #1 with most scariest noise, but I will always consider the volcano to be the worst disaster in the world.

I lived in the midwest for six years, and I can say that the sounds of the sirens going off before the tornado is a helluva lot more scary than the sound of the actual twister, especially if the sirens are blaring and you can't see the damn thing.
Lightning isn't a sound thunder is.
lightning produces thunder so all thunder is is the sound of lighting
lightning*
That tornado sounded like an f5 from the fujita damage scale which was created by Dr. fujita, who was a scientist.
ikr lmao
"thunder" is lightning. They aren't two separate things just because you see the flash first...
I lived in Moore Oklahoma and most of you know what happened there and I'm happy I'm living in Michigan now. I been in the EF5 tornado and lost my best-friend, Aunt, and Uncle. The Tornado sounds nothing like a Tornado but the sirens, well done.

Holy moley! Where did you get the tornado sounds from?

Rip headphone users
How man, that was amazing and I would love to use those sounds in my music. Do you allow me? Thanks.
No never watching or listening to that again. Specially not the tornado bit I even scared my sister!
yes
Try closing your eyes while the Tornado one is playing. Imagine yourself being alone in a small wooden house, somewhere on a large, wide field. You're sitting on the floor, knowing the Tornado is coming. You hope it's not hitting you, so you close your eyes and hope for the best...
This is most scary experience I've ever had in my life, tbh.
Except for the Wilhelm Scream, that killed the mood XD
the sirens sound like wolves howling
Oh man the volcano one was so cool! The landslide one was cool but more scary than cool haha
I agree
LOL TORNADO #2 IS MY PROFILE PIC
Those lightning strikes scared the shit out of me when I was a kid and that tornado siren too
lightning has no sound thats thunder
Lol right?
Rocky Road Lightning is what "thunder" comes from. The reason you see lightning first is because light travels faster than sound. The closer the lightning, the less time it takes for you to hear the thunder. You can't have lightning without thunder and vice versa. c:
Miss i did not come here to learn about lighting tanks tho
Rocky Road No need to be so rude.
im sorry
'
i just love ambient music! you made my day
I terrified of a tornado sirens
Me too
me too kinda if i heard those irl i would be crying my head off LITERALLY!
I love thunder! I love the sound, and I love the lightning. But tornado sirens are the stuff of my nightmares... *shivers*
Same here
I've never been in a tornado but the sound sounds very familiar, almost as if I've heard it in reality. Its so strange.
I don't know what all the other disaster sounds were but I did recognize the last one specially because of the siren
Dude i loved it man
Whenever you hear those sirens, you know you’re screwed. Fortunately, the ones in my town give ample warning, as they are automatically triggered when a tornado or other storm with 65+ mph winds has been spotted within 5 miles of the county.
3:13 wilhelm scream
Thanx for all these.
I think they all are great sounds.. I love all of them.. I think it should be Top 5 most awesome sounds
These are awesome as hell!
Great. Can you make an 8 hour version so I can get some sleep?
personally i think the worst sound is the crack in someone's voice before they cry, or the sound chewing with your mouth open makes omfg. but the worst disaster sound (to me) is a tornado
love the tornado one....i wish i could listen to a longer recording
best tornado sound on the net! loved the sound. you must really like tornados. I do too :p.
