    Lots of attention to the mental side of training and competition this year. So important to be mentally and physically fit.

    Dude has so much talent - and with that talent, pressure. Pre Classic mishap had us all worried, but man - our boy got the job done when it mattered most. Incredibly proud of Hobbs for rising to the occasion.

    I have enjoyed watching Hobbs since his high school days. I have always been impressed with his perfect running form. If you watch his last 75 meters, his form never deviates even while he is pushing hard. Well done!

    How good is our 1500 team!??!? After the doldrums of men's 1500m running in the US, to see a 3:31 not make the team is incredible. Condolences to Vince Ciatti, but the 3 we have going are all so exciting and so young!

    So happy for him. Kessler didn’t get the gradual build up to big races that college athletes get: big college races, then conference finals, then NCAA regional, then NCAA’s and THEN Oly trials. Dude just went from high school to Nationals. Amazing work, Hobbs.

    Wild to think about how strong this guy also rock climbs....truly a superior athlete. It is hard to comprehend how strong he is in two very different disciplines. Super happy for him and his family.

    He understand racing strategy a lot better than I thought. He's intelligent and well coached, obviously. I tip my hat to him. He's going to need more speed to beat Ingebrigsten, Kerr, and the other foreigners LOL

    • @connorbrucker5481
      @connorbrucker5481 5 месяцев назад +7

      Nah dude, he has more speed than kerr and jakob. He ran 1:45 flat in the 800 while having to push and navigate through traffic and on interviews when asked about training he states he runs 10.8 100m pace for 40m reps. He has elite speed (not as elite as Wightman, but elite nonetheless) compared to most of the top 1500m guys. It's his strength/endurance that needs work. Jakob is the best in the world at the 5k and Kerr has the indoor 2 mile world record. They have elite strength. In a sub 3:30 1500m race, a guy with elite speed like Hobbs who isn't the strongest cannot kick super hard off that pace. In order to beat Jakob and Kerr he just needs to fitter. Look at Hocker. Hocker is known for his elite speed/kick, but last olympics he was ripped to shreds by Jakob and Kerr because his strength wasn't there and he couldn't kick off a sub 3:30 pace. However fast forward to today and Hocker was able to outkick Nuguse in a 3:30 race. Why? Look at his 5k progression. In 2021, he ran 13:18 in the 5k that year and now this year he ran 12:58. Hocker's speed like Hobbs is elite but they cannot display their incredible kicks in a fast race without also having elite strength.

      @@WheeJones it was on the Coffee Club podcast hosted by Olli Hoare, Morgan Mcdonald, and George Beamish. He stated that in his training in order to improve his speed instead of doing full 100m-150m sprints which he claims strains the body more, once or twice a week he does 40m-60m sprints at 10.8 pace.

    So the main thing for young athletes to take away - you *have* to race. It’s the only way you get better. You can time trial, you can hide out in camps, at altitude, long running, hitting reps yadda yadda ever. Doesn’t matter. You need to race.
